Xiao Bai and Qin Xiong engaged in fierce combat. While they were fighting, the injured Zhang Lan and Daoist Yiyuan immediately took out pills from their storage bags and swallowed them. They watched the battle between the two Void Refinement stage experts with trepidation.
Ayao was also nervous. She hadn't expected that Qin Xiong was at the Void Refinement stage, and also a demon. If she had known this beforehand, she definitely wouldn't have come here.
Seeing that Xiaobai and Qin Xiong were locked in a fierce battle, Ayao didn't know how to help. She was only at the early stage of the Nascent Soul realm; how could she possibly intervene in a battle between cultivators at the Void Refinement stage?
Unbeknownst to A Yao and the others, while they were fighting, something was awakening deep underground. The ground cracked, and the blood from Ye Tian and Fellow Daoist Hu's corpses dripped down the fissures into the depths. A terrifying being deep underground opened its eyes, and its divine sense immediately perceived A Yao and the others.
Boom—
Suddenly, the ground cracked open, and countless blood-red tentacles pierced out from the depths of the ground. These tentacles wrapped around the corpses of Ye Tian and Fellow Daoist Hu, instantly sucking their flesh and blood clean. Zhang Lan and Daoist Yiyuan screamed as their bodies were pierced by the tentacles. Both of them were filled with terror and resentment. In just a moment, their flesh and blood were completely sucked away, and even their primordial spirits could not escape.
Ayao was carrying a protective magical artifact, which saved her from disaster. However, she was horrified to see countless tentacles surging towards her. Ayao was terrified, and a white shadow flashed by.
Xiao Bai hugged A Yao and teleported dozens of feet away with her, as all the tentacles gave chase. Qin Xiong hadn't expected this turn of events. What were those things?
A powerful aura, typical of the Tribulation Transcending stage, emanated from the depths of the earth. Hidden deep within this place was a ferocious beast, a Tribulation Transcending stage beast. This beast had used this place as its lair for tens of thousands of years, but unexpectedly, Xiaobai's battle with Qin Xiong had awakened it.
Ayao, Xiaobai, and Qin Xiong are all targets of the tentacles' attacks.
The ground rumbled and the entire palace collapsed. Xiao Bai held A Yao in one arm and kept slashing at the attacking tentacles with the other.
On the other side, Qin Xiong was in the same boat, his face now devoid of any composure. He gritted his teeth, relentlessly slashing at the tentacles. But these tentacles seemed endless, moving with the speed of red lightning. If he relaxed even slightly, or slowed down even a step, his body would be instantly pierced by these tentacles, his flesh and blood completely drained.
Boom boom boom—
Qin Xiong transformed into a gigantic demon, spreading his black and blue wings. With each flap, countless blue beams of light shot out in all directions. Xiao Bai held A Yao in one arm and gripped a longsword in the other. Hundreds of thousands of sword energies swirled around him, forming a massive sword array that relentlessly slashed at the attacking tentacles.
Xiao Bai was merely a corpse puppet; he felt no fear. But A Yao was different; she was filled with terror. The aura of the Tribulation Transcending stage made her feel like she couldn't breathe. Qin Xiong was also growing increasingly panicked. Although his attack speed was increasing, his heart was steadily sinking towards despair.
What happened?
What on earth happened? Why am I so unlucky?
boom!
Qin Xiong unleashed all his magical power, attempting to clear a path and break through. His body erupted with a blinding blue light, and countless tentacles that touched that light instantly turned to ashes.
Suddenly, the red tentacles around him disappeared, and he immediately tried to rush out. But before he could escape, he heard a sharp whistle, a whistle that sounded like countless steel needles piercing his body and his head. His body trembled violently, and countless tentacles surged from all directions, instantly engulfing him.
Ayao was also shaken by the sharp whistling sound, causing her to cough up blood. Xiaobai, being a corpse puppet, was completely unaffected. However, without Qin Xiong to share the tentacle attacks, the pressure on Xiaobai was even greater. Ayao's fear grew; was she going to perish here? Xiaobai's sword formation was gradually broken down by the tentacles. Ayao formed a hand seal, transferring all her magical power to Xiaobai.
It's not enough, it's still not enough.
The sharp whistling sound rang out again, violently vibrating the air and tearing open tiny spatial rifts. Even with Xiaobai protecting her, Ayao was still shaken and coughed up blood again; she was immediately severely injured. Her vision began to blur. What... what level of power was this?
Ayao fell into a coma.
When Ayao woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar place. She was lying on the ground, with a huge, bright moon overhead and vast canyons on either side. Scattered across the dark ground were some glowing rocks.
A white figure stood before her—it was Xiaobai. Xiaobai's clothes were tattered, and the bandages wrapped around her body had torn, revealing stark white bones. All around were the corpses of demonic beasts, clearly recently deceased.
Is she...is she not dead? Did Xiaobai help her escape? Did he kill all the attacking monsters while she was unconscious?
Looking at Xiaobai's broken body, Ayao's eyes stung with tears.
"noob--"
Ayao stood up and walked towards Xiaobai.
The masked corpse puppet turned around. A third of his mask was already broken. As he turned, the remaining mask shattered, revealing his bloody and mangled face. His entire body was breaking apart, falling piece by piece and turning into dust.
No--
Ayao couldn't believe it.
She reached out to grab him, but he turned to dust right before her eyes.
