Chapter 139

What?

Zhou Chenyu frowned and looked over, her eyes meeting those of Qian Rushan, who was beaming with pride. He was staring straight at them, clearly targeting their family.

Looking at the large and small bundles of heavy gifts wrapped in red cloth carried by the servant behind him, Zhou Chenyu thought, "This bastard isn't here to seek revenge. What new trick is he up to now?"

Hearing the news, Chen Cuiping rushed over. When she saw what was laid out in front of her, her eyes widened. There were medicinal herbs, tonics, gold, silver and jade artifacts, a whole dozen boxes of good stuff.

Her eyes welled up with tears. "I've lived this long and I've never seen so many good things."

The villagers who were watching the commotion asked curiously:

"Cuiping, why is Qian Rushan bringing so many nice things to your sister-in-law's house?"

“Yes. A few months ago, didn’t he bring a group of thugs here to collect debts, forcing Xiuju to borrow money everywhere? Why is he suddenly bringing so many things to our door again? You’re family, tell us about it.” Perhaps infected by Baoyu’s silly grin, Zhou Chenyu also smiled. She hadn’t been home for more than ten days. Neither she nor Baoyu were good cooks, and they missed Li Xiuju’s cooking.

The two quickened their pace, pushing a cart full of prey home.

When Huangdou saw the little black dog playing with him, he wagged his tail and went over to sniff it. After he had sniffed enough, he heard the sound of a cartwheel rolling over stones behind him, and immediately started running home.

As evening fell, Li Xiuju caught a duck that had run into the yard and was about to take it back to the duck shed behind the house when she suddenly saw Huang Dou excitedly run into the house, scaring the flock of ducks into scattering in all directions.

"Hey, you little rascal, what brings you back?" Li Xiuju's eyes widened in surprise. Hearing the commotion outside, she ignored the ducks in the yard and hurriedly ran out, limping, and exclaimed with delight, "You're back!"

Looking at Li Xiuju's smile, Zhou Chenyu couldn't wait to share her joy, "Grandma, we caught a lot of pheasants and rabbits, come and take a look."

"Really?" Li Xiuju walked down the stone steps and took a look. When she saw the wild deer in the cage, she exclaimed in surprise, "How come there are wild deer here?"

Normally, Chen Cuiping would have given up on these kinds of troubles and would have avoided them as much as possible, but today's situation was quite different.

She pursed her lips. "Although we are sisters-in-law, this is my sister-in-law's private matter. How can she tell me everything?"

"That's true."

The woman craned her neck, looking at the handsome Qian Rushan, then at the increasingly beautiful Zhou Chenyu opposite her, and covered her mouth with a laugh: "Do you think this Qian Rushan has taken a fancy to your Chenyu and wants to be your son-in-law?"

Another woman suddenly realized, "With all these bags and packages, could it be that they're really coming to propose marriage?" Baoyu leaned lazily against the cart, proudly patting his chest, "Mother, I grabbed those."

Zhou Chenyu rolled her eyes at him, "Oh, look at how smug you are, do you want the whole village to know?"

Baoyu raised an eyebrow. "I not only caught a wild deer, but I also saved someone."

"Saving someone?" Li Xiuju looked over in surprise. "They went hunting at Stone Mountain, were there other people with them? Who were they saving?"

Just as Baoyu was about to continue, he suddenly heard a lively sound of gongs and drums approaching.

Tiger led a group of children up, panting, "Baoyu, your family is having guests!"

"Yes, yes, that guest brought so many things!"

The mother and her two children exchanged glances. Li Xiuju said with a heavy expression, "Ever since your father fell seriously ill, those distant relatives have cut off all contact with us for fear that we would come to borrow money. We haven't had any guests at all."

With such a grand procession, Zhou Chenyu was somewhat expectant. Could it be some wealthy relative coming to claim kinship?

"I also find it strange. They're making a lot of noise, like gongs and drums. I'd think something good had happened in our family." Baoyu muttered to himself, watching the approaching crowd. He immediately recognized Qian Rushan walking at the front, and his good mood instantly vanished. "Mother, Sister, it's that beast Qian Rushan!"

Listening to the group's conversation, Chen Cuiping wondered, "Are they really here to propose marriage?"

Surrounded by the villagers of Zhoujia Village, Qian Rushan slowly walked to their doorstep and said, "Alright, just leave the things here."

At his command, several servants unloaded the wooden crates containing the generous gifts.

As Huangdou watched the approaching crowd, it bared its teeth and barked, "Woof woof woof!"

Li Xiuju looked at the dozen or so boxes blocking her way. Although she was displeased, she still showed some leniency. "Second Master Qian, why are you putting these things at my doorstep?"

Qian Rushan stepped forward with a flick of his sleeve, and greeted her with a smile, "Aunt Li, it's been several days since I last saw you. How have you been?"

Looking at the smiling tiger Qian Rushan, Baoyu couldn't contain his temper. He grabbed the eating utensils from the cart, blocked his mother and sister's way, and shouted, "Qian Rushan, we've already paid off our debt to you. What are you doing here at our house?"

Qian Rushan put away his folding fan and said with a gentle smile, "Brother Baoyu, I did not come here to cause trouble. Why are you so agitated? Knives can easily hurt people. Please put your things away."

Baoyu didn't believe his nonsense and held a long knife to Qian Rushan's neck, saying, "We don't welcome you in our home. Take your things and leave now!"

Qian Rushan remained firmly in place, smiling helplessly, "I'm telling the truth, why can't you listen?"

"Qian Rushan, don't think I wouldn't dare kill you!" Baoyu gripped the knife tightly and pushed it in a few more inches.

"If this can quell your resentment," Qian Rushan said lazily, closing his eyes and offering his neck. "Then let's get started."

Li Xiuju was terrified. She wanted to stop Baoyu from hurting anyone, but she was also afraid that Qian Rushan would suddenly get angry and hurt Baoyu.

Zhou Chenyu watched for a while, not understanding Qian Rushan's intentions, so he pushed Baoyu aside and stepped forward, saying lazily, "Oh, what wind blew Young Master Qian here today?"

Qian Rushan saw Zhou Chenyu standing behind him step forward, smiled, and spoke softly as if coaxing someone, "Miss Chenyu, I didn't come here by the wind, I came willingly."

Zhou Chenyu shuddered at his shout, looking at his fleshy face, which was so menacing that even a glance would cause a work injury. "Willingly? What important matter requires you to come in person?"

Qian Rushan straightened his clothes, slowly stepped forward, bowed sincerely to the three of them, and said regretfully:

"Aunt Li, Miss Chenyu, Brother Baoyu, I had a conflict with you in the market last time. I have been confined at home for several days and have realized where I went wrong. Therefore, I have specially prepared generous gifts to come to your door to atone for my sins and hope to be forgiven by you."
