After the lunch rush, fewer customers were drinking mung bean and taro ball sweet soup.
Zhou Chenyu was finally able to sit down and rest; both her legs were so sore she couldn't bend them.
Baoyu secretly counted the copper coins in his money bag, not feeling tired at all. "Sister, the sweet soup we sold in these two hours has earned us more than double what we earned in the whole day before. If this continues, we'll be rich!"
Zhou Chenyu didn't know if it was because she was too tired or something else, but she felt uneasy all day, as if something was going to happen. "Keep a low profile."
Having had his fill of being the head of the household and with no more guests around, Baoyu hurriedly ran to the market's outhouse.
"Men really do have a lot of poop and pee stuff," Zhou Chenyu muttered speechlessly. Suddenly, someone patted her shoulder. Without a doubt, it was Zhou Baoyu.
She turned around with wide eyes, only to see Zhou Wanqiu smiling with a flushed face. She was immediately amused by her own reaction and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Zhou Wanqiu stepped forward, wiped the fine sweat from her forehead, and said with a happy smile, "My mother asked me to come to the market to buy things. When I saw you here, Sister Chenyu, it's still early, so I'm not in a hurry to go back. Do you need any help, Sister?"
"Look, there aren't even any customers. We don't need any help at all. It's way past our busy season. Your face is so red. Would you like a bowl of sweet soup?"
Zhou Chenyu looked at her, and Zhou Wanqiu nodded awkwardly, then followed behind and said, "Sister Chenyu, I feel like I'm not here to help, but more like I'm begging for food. I'm really shameless."
"It's just a bowl of sweet soup, it won't cost much. When my business grows bigger, I'll be counting on you brothers and sisters to help me out." Zhou Chenyu smiled slightly and handed over the bowl. "Don't try to renege on your debt then."
"Then I will definitely be there." Zhou Wanqiu smiled, feeling relieved, and sat down to the side with the sweet soup in her hands.
Just then, more customers arrived at the stall. Zhou Chenyu went up to greet them. Baoyu hadn't returned yet, so she was busy all by herself and was a little flustered.
Zhou Wanqiu saw this, hurriedly finished the sugar water in her bowl, and rushed forward to help. She was too anxious and did not notice that the person who came was Qian Rushan.
When Zhou Wanqiu saw his face clearly, she froze in shock. Recalling the scene of being humiliated by him earlier, her face turned completely pale.
Seeing her reaction, Qian Rushan said with a mix of laughter and scolding, "Zhou Chenyu, is this how your dessert shop does business? You sent a mute waiter, how am I supposed to order?"
"It's that bastard again!"
Zhou Chenyu watched as Qian Rushan approached menacingly, followed by five or six thugs.
No wonder she's felt uneasy all day.
Zhou Chenyu put away his expression of hatred, walked over calmly, shielded Zhou Wanqiu behind him, and laughed: "Master Qian, you know how scary you are, don't you? In Qingshui Town, not everyone is as bold as me. I've been targeted by you several times, and I can still stand in front of you again without changing my expression."
Qian Rushan looked at Zhou Chenyu's unchanging expression. Not many women dared to act like this. He sneered with a dark face, "Zhou Chenyu, well, you've set up a shop, made some money, and now you dare to challenge me in public."
Zhou Chenyu gave a smile, "I've already called you 'Grandpa,' how could I possibly have the guts?"
Qian Rushan was somewhat satisfied. Looking at the food on the table next to him, he said lazily, "I heard your taro ball dessert is selling very well. My brothers and I are very thirsty. Give me a bowl each."
Zhou Chenyu frowned slightly. What was this guy up to?
"What? You don't want to do business with me? Are you afraid I'll find out something?"
Qian Rushan pressed on relentlessly. Judging from his posture, Zhou Chenyu knew he was well-prepared. Even if Zhou Chenyu found an excuse to back out, Qian Rushan would continue to find fault.
She laughed, "How could that be? Our sweet soup costs three coins a bowl. You have six bowls in total. Please pay first before you eat."
Qian Rushan's subordinate immediately threw a bag of copper coins on the table. Zhou Chenyu took the silver and pulled Zhou Wanqiu back to the table where the sugar water was placed.
Zhou Wanqiu's eyes widened in fright, her lips trembling. "Sister Chenyu, Qian Rushan is here! What do we do? What should we do?"
Zhou Chenyu looked at the laughing and joking group, scooped up bowl after bowl of sweet soup, and tried to appear calm, saying:
"Late Autumn, I'm going to deliver some sweet soup later. You sneak out. Baoyu has gone to the outhouse. It would be best if you could see him. If not, go directly to the government office to find the officials, understand?"
The area around the dessert shop was still bustling with noise, and Zhou Wanqiu's mind went blank as she hurriedly replied, "Okay."
Zhou Chenyu smiled at her, carried the sweet soup over, and before she could deliver it to Qian Rushan, she heard Zhou Wanqiu scream from behind.
Before Zhou Wanqiu could take five steps, she was grabbed by the thugs that Qian Rushan had planted in the crowd.
When Zhou Chenyu saw Zhou Wanqiu's arm being held by the man, she flung her hand and roughly threw her to the ground.
Hearing the commotion, the people dining at the dessert shop and even those in the surrounding area knew that Qian Rushan was there, and they didn't even bother with their food, immediately hiding far away.
Zhou Chenyu helped Zhou Wanqiu to her feet, her face no longer friendly. She glared angrily at the instigator and shouted, "Qian Rushan, what exactly do you want to do!"
"What do you want?" Qian Rushan stood up smugly, walked up to Zhou Chenyu, and sneered contemptuously: "You tore up the IOU first, and then beat me up in public. With new grudges and old hatreds, how can I let you, Zhou Baoyu, and that old hag Li Xiuju live a good life?"
Zhou Chenyu glared at him, "The IOU is fake; it shouldn't exist in the first place. You publicly humiliated a woman, and I was merely doing the people's duty!"
Qian Rushan laughed disdainfully, "Eliminating harm for the people, what a fine way to say it. Even the emperor doesn't love his people as much as you do."
Zhou Chenyu rolled her eyes and muttered to herself, if she were the emperor, she would definitely order the execution of his entire family. What kind of parents raised such a wicked person?
Seeing that she didn't speak, Qian Rushan fell silent, leaned closer to look at Zhou Chenyu, and suddenly his eyes lit up. He smiled and said, "Zhou Chenyu, how come I never noticed before that you were so beautiful? Hmm?"
What?
He was so scared by her that he wet his pants, and she beat him until his face was like a pig's head. Shouldn't he hate her as much as she does?
Do you still like it?
Does he have post-traumatic stress disorder?
Qian Rushan moved closer and closer, and Zhou Chenyu became wary. When Qian Rushan was still five fingers away from his face, Zhou Chenyu slapped him, which completely ruined Qian Rushan's mood. He gritted his teeth and cursed, "Zhou Chenyu, you dare to hit me?"
Zhou Chenyu's smile was more like a grimace. "Can you believe I can't control my hands?"
The attendant chuckled, and Qian Rushan, enraged, shouted, "Zhou Chenyu, do you really think I can't handle a woman like you? Hold her down!"
"Wanqiu, run!" Zhou Chenyu shoved Qian Rushan aside and pulled Zhou Wanqiu out.
Baoyu was completely unaware of what was happening here. After relieving himself, he was still humming a little tune as he walked back until he came across a noisy scene at the dessert stall, where Qian Rushan was also present.
He then realized something was seriously wrong and immediately shouted, "Something's wrong! There's a fight! People are fighting!!!"
When people outside the market heard that someone was fighting, those who had free time quickly gathered a few friends to go and join the fun.
Xiao Qi, who was patrolling the streets, saw a crowd flowing into the market and grabbed someone to ask, "Fellow villager, what's going on?"
The villager stood rooted to the spot, his eyes darting around, afraid of missing a good show if he was too late: "I heard there's a fight going on over there."
Xiao Qi let his fellow villager go, and Yang Xi glanced at him seriously. "Let's go, let's go take a look."
