Baoyu stared at the wild deer chewing grass, scratching his head, somewhat bewildered. "Sister, this is really strange. Such a fine wild deer, yet no one has come to inquire about the price."
Zhou Chenyu looked up and saw the glaring sun directly overhead. "It's only noon, no rush. It's lunchtime now. I'll stay here and watch over things. Go and eat something to fill your stomach first, and bring me a pancake when you're done."
Baoyu remained seated, mouth agape. Zhou Chenyu knew what he wanted to say. "You're tired from pulling the cart this morning. Go eat something first. Eat whatever you want. I'm not hungry yet. We can come back after you've finished eating."
"Oh, then I'll go." Baoyu took out a few copper coins from his money bag and disappeared into the vast crowd.
With no guests or Baoyu around to talk to, Zhou Chenyu stared at the two rabbits and the deer, and suddenly felt sleepy.
She rested her chin on her hand, automatically filtering out the noise of the market, and drooped her eyelids.
"Young lady, are you still selling this wild deer?" a clear male voice rang out.
"Sell, sell, sell!" Zhou Chenyu opened her eyes with a start, but before she could speak, she saw Qian Rushan's annoying face.
She frowned, her expression instantly changing, and said with disdain, "Qian Rushan, what are you doing here?"
Qian Rushan lifted his robe and squatted down, picking up a blade of grass to tease the deer in the cage, muttering, "Didn't I just ask you? I want to buy this deer."
Zhou Chenyu glanced warily at Qian Rushan. She still didn't understand what he meant by making a scene last night, and now he came to cause trouble again. What exactly did he want?
She snatched the wild grass back, not daring to provoke him, but she didn't give him a friendly look either. "Young Master Qian, don't joke around. Your Qian family is so wealthy and powerful, what delicacies can't you have on your dinner table? Why would you need to eat wild deer from the mountains? Get out of my way and don't delay my business."
"Hey, don't turn us away." Qian Rushan looked at Zhou Chenyu and smiled, "Chenyu, wild deer caught in the mountains are a treasure that money can't buy, especially for us men, they're a top-quality tonic. Don't you know?"
Qian Rushan's words seemed like a normal conversation, but his frivolous gaze subtly revealed a flirtatious teasing.
Zhou Chenyu glanced at him up and down with her almond-shaped eyes, her heart as calm as still water. She smiled lightly and said, "Who doesn't know? I just didn't expect that Young Master Qian, who looks so young, would already need deer blood. Isn't your body a bit too weak?"
She kindly reminded you, "Since you're not feeling well, you shouldn't be eating venison and drinking deer blood. You should see a doctor."
Qian Rushan stared blankly at the smile on her face, completely ignoring what she was saying. He found the beauty's every smile and gesture even more amusing and endearing.
Instead of getting angry, he laughed, took another step forward, and said bluntly, "I don't want to see a doctor. I just want to buy a deer here, take another look at you, and this illness will heal itself."
What is that?
Look at her?!
Zhou Chenyu frowned and looked at Qian Rushan, whose face was etched with a half-smile, and whose eyes seemed to see only her.
He... he really likes her, doesn't he?
Qian Rushan lowered his posture, bent down, and asked with a soft smile, "Chenyu, tell me quickly, how much does this wild deer cost? My Qian family is wealthy and powerful, we don't lack the money to buy this deer. You don't need to save money for me."
Looking at his feigned affectionate face, Zhou Chenyu realized that it was no wonder he suddenly staged a self-inflicted injury yesterday to reconcile with them; it turned out he had this wicked idea in mind.
But when it came to Qian Rushan's affection, Zhou Chenyu had only one thought in her mind: what exactly did he see in her? She was determined to change!
If it were any other decent playboy, she would consider giving it a try.
However, she was unwilling to even have the slightest connection with Qian Rushan, a man who was unpredictable and prone to violence.
If she breaks up with a man with a sound mind, she might drink a little, be sad for a few days, and then the difficult days will pass.
When Qian Rushan loves her, he might be so humble as to be utterly subservient. But once he changes his mind, not only her, but also her parents, siblings, and other relatives will likely suffer greatly at his hands.
Whether you like someone or not, the other person must be a decent, normal person.
Qian Rushan, still shameless, asked again, "Chen Yu, I really want to buy this venison. I'm willing to pay whatever price you offer."
Zhou Chenyu's smile faded, and he said seriously, "Qian Rushan, I'm naturally happy that you're willing to pay a high price for my venison. However, this meat has already been reserved by a distinguished guest. In our line of work, keeping one's word is essential. If I promise someone something, I have to do it. I really can't sell it to you. I hope you understand."
She blinked and said considerately, "Qian Rushan, the grudges between our Zhou family and you were settled last night. No one owes anyone anything, so you don't need to pity me here and buy my things. I appreciate your kindness, but you should leave now."
Zhou Chenyu hoped Qian Rushan would leave, but Qian Rushan showed no intention of leaving. He grabbed Baoyu's chair and sat down next to her. "Chenyu, don't worry. I won't make things difficult for you. I'm willing to wait here for that person to come. When that time comes, I can negotiate directly with that guest."
What?
Zhou Chenyu saw him plop down, looking like he wanted to stay by her side and not leave.
She was so angry that her lips were clenched and her cheeks were puffed out. She never expected that the guest she had just made up would become the stone that shot her in the foot.
Zhou Chenyu's temper flared up, and she opened her mouth to curse. But the moment she raised her eyes to glare at Qian Rushan, she inadvertently saw Yang Xi patrolling in the distance in his official uniform. Her suppressed anger instantly turned into a smile.
Taking advantage of Qian Rushan's inattention, she quietly waved to the man in the crowd.
Xiao Qi spotted Zhou Chenyu beforehand. "Master, Miss Zhou is ahead, waving at you."
Yang Xi stopped in his tracks and looked in the direction Xiao Qi was pointing. He met Zhou Chenyu's burning gaze and subconsciously lowered his eyes, unsure of how to respond.
You can see Qian Rushan sitting to one side, his brows furrowed, his expression instantly turning icy cold.
Xiao Qi noticed this subtle change and cautiously reminded him, "Master, Qian Rushan is sitting next to Miss Zhou. She's waving at us. Is she asking for help?"
Yang Xi's cold eyes darkened further. He walked briskly through the crowd, while Xiao Qi secretly chuckled and followed closely behind.
As Yang Xi approached, Zhou Chenyu smiled and turned to Qian Rushan, "Qian Rushan, didn't you want to personally negotiate with the customer who reserved the wild deer? Now that Yang Xi is here, and you're here too, this is perfect."
who?
Yang Xi?
Upon hearing those two words, Qian Rushan looked over with a mixture of belief and doubt, only to meet Yang Xi's sinister and cold gaze. He nearly fell off his chair.
Zhou Chenyu smiled and went to greet Yang Xi, "Yang Xi, I've finally waited for you."
