Chapter 1023 Wang Mingming Revisited

Lu Yuan was slightly taken aback after hearing Xu Changbing's words.

He quickly glanced back.

Sure enough, the screw in the center of the steel plate behind was slowly turning.

It seems that because it hadn't been turned for years, the screw made a screeching sound when it was turned.

They simply hadn't heard clearly because the sound was blocked when the ghoul attacked them.

As he watched the screw keep turning, a smile suddenly appeared on Lu Yuan's face.

"Haha, great! There are survivors here. By the way, do you remember the structure of that blueprint? The direction of the last passage entrance, it seems to connect to the control room of the wheel assembly!"

Xu Changbing nodded repeatedly.

"Yes, boss, I remember now. This passageway looks like the location of the turbine assembly. However, there doesn't seem to be a seventh tunnel on the original blueprints. Could it be that they used this place to come and go before?"

The two exchanged a glance and immediately felt a glimmer of hope.

However, the cannibal's arm was still attacking them from behind.

Originally, Lu Yuan planned to shoot off the cannibal's arm, but now he has put that idea aside.

If a shot had been fired in that space, he and Xu Changbing would have certainly died there.

But now it seems they don't need to do that anymore; someone is helping them from behind.

So all they can do now is wait quietly. Fortunately, their current position is quite good, just out of the reach of the cannibal's arm.

They only need to use the round disc behind them to avoid the ghoul's arm, and they can escape the ghoul's attack unscathed.

The cannibal's arm was less than half a meter away from them, and every time it swung, it carried a strong smell of blood, making Lu Yuan feel extremely nauseous.

He didn't know how big this ghoul really was, but he had a vague feeling that it was a ghoul and must be related to the one he had seen on the upper deck earlier.

Because this ghoul was so huge, with arms that were over ten meters long, if we calculate based on that length, the ghoul's body length would be about seventy or eighty meters.

A ghoul that is seventy or eighty meters long is simply a terrifying existence. That is roughly the height of a thirty-story building, and a thirty-story building is only about a hundred meters tall.

This ghoul was nearly thirty stories tall, a sight that sends chills down one's spine.

Lu Yuan waited quietly, while the screws behind him continued to be tightened incessantly.

However, the speed at which the frozen object was twisted was too slow, so Lu Yuan dared not be careless, but he couldn't help at all.

They could only wait quietly.

Lu Yuan looked down at the time; half an hour had passed since they entered the tunnel.

The cannibal had been attacking them continuously for nearly twenty minutes. This relentless attack made it seem as if the cannibal was stubborn and inflexible. Even though it was out of reach, it still wanted to attack them. It really seemed determined to kill them.

Lu Yuan looked at the pistol, but ultimately put it back in his pocket.

He knew he couldn't move now, or he might be discovered by the cannibals.

So he and Xu Changbing hid where the ghoul couldn't see them, letting it scratch and claw at them back and forth without making a sound.

The squeaking sound behind him continued, so Lu Yuan looked down and pointed his flashlight in the direction of the screw.

The screw that was originally protruding about ten centimeters out has now been retracted.

Following the usual design method, Lu Yuan felt that if all the screws were retracted, the cover would be opened.

Just as Lu Yuan was thinking, he suddenly felt that the cover behind him seemed to have loosened a bit.

Both he and Xu Changbing smiled slightly, then they stared intently at the screw and the cover behind it.

After a few minutes, the gap in the lid got bigger and bigger.

Later, when a sliver of light came from inside, Lu Yuan could clearly smell a strong stench emanating from within.

Lu Yuan shone his flashlight inside. Although the light inside was brighter than here, Lu Yuan still habitually shone the flashlight in.

Suddenly, an old voice came from inside.

"Come in quickly, come in and hide for a bit!"

The voice was familiar, yet it also felt strange, as if it had traveled back a long time.

The other person's voice was low and hoarse, with a hint of desolation.

Without thinking twice, Lu Yuan and Xu Changbing quickly climbed down a suspended ladder behind the cover.

When they reached the bottom, Lu Yuan finally saw clearly who had saved them.

The man's hair had grown so long that it covered his face, and his clothes were so tattered that they could no longer cover his body.

He was barefoot, covered in mud, and the whole room was a mess.

Although it was clear that the other party seemed willing to clean, they were unable to do so afterwards.

Lu Yuan finally understood why it had taken the other party nearly half an hour to unscrew the screw.

It was simply because he was so thin and weak.

The man's body was emaciated, and the bones in one of his arms were clearly visible.

The other person's head looked like a big-headed child's, which looked so awkward.

He had no muscles at all, not that he had no flesh at all, just a withered skeleton and a sheet of skin.

At this moment, the other person suddenly looked at Lu Yuan and then brushed her long hair aside.

Suddenly, a glint of light flashed in his eyes, and then he knelt down on the ground and burst into tears.

Lu Yuan quickly went over and helped the other person up, before he could express his gratitude.

After all, someone saved my life, how could I not express my gratitude? But why did the other person kneel down before me first?

It was only then that Lu Yuan got a clear look at the other person's face.

Through the other person's disheveled hair, this person seemed very familiar.

Isn't that Wang Mingming?

Wang Mingming could no longer recognize his previous appearance.

If it weren't for the scar on his face, Lu Yuan wouldn't even be able to recognize him.

His body was emaciated, although the good food and clothing he had received at the camp had made him less thin than before.

But less than four months after he left, when they met again, he was in the same state, seemingly even more miserable than before.

"Wang Mingming?"
