"Why would these people throw floating corpses into our area? It doesn't affect us at all. There are plenty of floating corpses here every day. Why would anyone throw them into our drainage ditch?"
However, Lu Yuan smiled at this moment.
"I know, they must have done this on purpose because they saw that we have a drainage area and that someone wanted to take over our land!"
"What? They've taken over our land?"
Xiao Shan's expression changed drastically upon hearing this; in his view, it was even more terrifying than him openly pretending to be something he wasn't.
“That’s right. We’ve rejected too many people. They can’t get into our area. And the houses downstream and nearby have been basically destroyed. They have nowhere to live. Only our area is still habitable. They must want to take over our land.”
Professor Zhu, standing to the side, looked at the floating corpses.
"Could it be that Lu Yuan is overthinking things, and this is just a floating corpse that washed up from downstream?"
Lu Yuan shook his head.
"Although there are no signs that this cover has been disturbed, look at some of the concrete next to it; it seems to have been chiseled through. They must have thrown the floating corpse in from here."
"But why did they go to all that trouble to throw the floating corpses in? Did they just want to spread the plague to us?"
Lu Yuan nodded.
"This idea should be about right."
Everyone became tense for ten minutes.
"Who could it be? There are too many people living around here, and it's too chaotic. We can't possibly stand guard every day, can we? After all, there are only about thirty of us. It's practically impossible to guard them all!"
Lu Yuan pondered for a moment before speaking.
"The current method is just to lure the snake out of its hole, but I have an idea."
So people from all around gathered around.
Lu Yuan looked around and then casually told them his thoughts.
Everyone suddenly realized what was going on and gave a thumbs up.
"Okay, Brother Lu, this is a good idea. Let's do it this way and see how convincing our act is!"
Lu Yuan nodded, then told everyone to go home.
When Xiaoshan arrived home, her face showed a mixture of worry and excitement.
"Do you think we might attract those people here and then get attacked by them?"
Lu Yuan looked into the distance and couldn't help but sneer.
"With their abilities, they are no longer capable of organizing an effective attack and can only resort to these underhanded methods. Now that the plague has spread everywhere, if they want to attack us, let's get through this plague first."
So two days later, early in the morning, Song Heng and a few others stood near the drainage outlet of the canal and began to build a raft.
Since they didn't have a real boat, they could only collect some tree trunks that floated by nearby, tie them together with rope, and make a simple raft.
Downstream, on a mudflat eroded by the current, several people were watching them, but none of them made a move.
Just as they had been busy all morning, several boats suddenly glided by from downstream.
When the man in the lead saw Song Heng and the others busy, he pretended to ask a question.
"Brothers, what are you doing?"
Song Heng deliberately coughed twice, and even tried to cover up the bloodstains on his cuffs.
"Oh, it's nothing, I'm just about to go to the city."
A hint of disdain immediately flashed in the other person's eyes.
Such a petty trick! You think you can fool us with your acting skills from yesterday? It must be that your area has also been hit by the plague.
"Oh, are we going to the city to get supplies? By the way, we have some supplies here, how about we do some trading?"
A hint of excitement flashed across Song Heng's face, while Chen Ke, standing beside him, spoke warily.
"You have supplies? Absolutely impossible, you couldn't possibly have supplies."
The other party sneered.
"Of course I have supplies. The lower reaches of the river are completely submerged now, and your small rafts are no match for it if you want to get out."
The other person paused for a moment before continuing.
"Or how about you hand over your territory to us, and we provide you with our ships?"
Lu Yuan watched the other side's kayaks from a distance, but a cold smile appeared on his face.
At this moment, Song Heng hesitated for a moment and said to Chen Ke, "Brother Chen, why don't we switch with them? Otherwise, we'll all get infected with the plague!"
The other party was delighted after hearing this and stopped hiding it.
"Don't worry, we have enough boats. There are over a hundred of us, so it's a bit crowded, but we definitely have enough boats. As long as you give us some space to stay, all these boats are yours."
"Alright, alright, let's just bear with it a little longer. Brother Chen, let's go back first. Maybe this illness will get better if we just endure it."
The other party has already gotten their hands on something and let it slip away; they certainly won't let them go so easily.
"You bastard, are you kidding me? You'll have to give up this territory today, whether you like it or not!"
"What? Are you trying to rob us? Let me tell you, don't think you can take advantage of us just because we're sick!" Song Heng looked at the other party with a terrified expression.
The other person burst into laughter and shouted to the men behind him, "Brothers, stop holding back! They have big houses to live in, clean beds, and maybe even food! And they're all sick now! Let's all rush up and rob them!"
