Chapter 1498 Counterattack Fails

After the first round of artillery fire, a burst of intense flames erupted from the city wall ahead. Following the second round of artillery fire, the ground troops in front officially began their attack on the entire city wall.

When Sean saw him, a surge of excitement made him stand up.

He picked up a bottle of wine from the table beside him, poured himself a glass, and leaned back in his comfortable chair with satisfaction, ready to watch the war while drinking.

If we can capture Lu Yuan's camp, then this war will be a complete victory, and it will probably take Lu Yuan a long time to recover.

Thinking of this, Sean felt an unusual sense of relief, as if he could finally vent all the resentment he had harbored towards Lu Yuan.

After downing two glasses of wine, Sean remained seated, looking at the reports coming from the front lines.

At that moment, the cannons on the city wall, which had been hit by two rounds of artillery fire, suddenly moved.

He noticed this detail, and a look of horror immediately appeared on his face.

Just as he was about to pick up the microphone to instruct people to be careful, a red light suddenly appeared in the muzzle of the cannon.

Then there was a loud bang, and it seemed like the entire computer screen was shaking.

Then it looked like a red laser beam shooting into the crowd.

With a deafening roar, the entire screen shook.

The earth seemed to sway, even more intensely than when their artillery bombarded it.

"It's bad! Run! The enemy artillery has started firing! If we don't run now, it'll be too late!"

"It's over! Heavy casualties at the front! Ground troops were attacked by artillery fire as they entered enemy attack range!"

"Damn it, we've fallen for their trap! They're deliberately making our ground troops advance; they're not completely unresponsive!"

Amidst the noise of the crowd, it seemed impossible to hear what was being said on the walkie-talkies.

Sean, sitting in the main hall, could only hear a constant rumbling sound in his ears.

After the sound ended, Sean felt his whole body stiffen.

He sat in the chair, somewhat bewildered, unsure of why this meeting had occurred.

It was a seemingly certain victory, and everything appeared to be going smoothly, but in the end, the other side simply didn't fire.

"How...how could this be? It must be fake, I must be seeing things!"

Sean muttered to himself, then picked up the microphone to speak again, but saw several flashes of light on the computer screen.

Several shooting stars streaked across the sky, falling at an extremely fast speed, landing motionless in the campsite in the jungle before they could be detected by the naked eye.

Then came a deafening roar, and the artillery unit suffered a massive attack.

A violent tremor shook the camp, and then the entire camp was instantly destroyed.

Parts of various cannons and the corpses of apes were blown to pieces.

The sounds in the video are very chaotic, with soldiers' screams, officers' roars, and distant artillery fire all mixed together.

Sean felt as if a string on his heart was vibrating back and forth, and he was completely distraught.

He slumped into his chair, muttering as he watched the footage on the screen, convinced it must be fake; his own team could never have lost so badly.

The outcome seemed obvious, but Sean still couldn't believe that his men, who had made such thorough preparations, could still lose so badly.

His eyes were fixed on the cannons on the city wall and the lights falling from the sky. He knew that all the footage had been destroyed, and he understood that the people could not come back.

Here he selected a dozen or so people to act as his mobile cameras, including those from the front lines, mid-level troops, and rear supply units.

When all the images disappeared, he understood all too well that even the reserve troops had not escaped this calamity.

Just then, the phone rang.

It was quite a while before Sean realized he had heard the bell.

He turned to look at his assistant, who was already holding the phone in front of him.

"Hey, Your Highness, something's happened!"

The military commander called, his voice tinged with sorrow and fear, as he sobbed.

Sean knew what the other party wanted to do. He understood that the other party would most likely be arrested and thrown into prison, after all, the outcome of a battle affected the entire result.

"I see!"

Sean calmly picked up the phone and said this.

The other party was stunned upon hearing the news.

Sean's voice didn't sound angry at all; it sounded very calm, as if he understood what he had just said.

He didn't react at all, as if he already knew and had accepted it.

He remained silent for a while, unsure of what to say, before Sean finally spoke.

"This isn't your fault. The blame lies with Lu Yuan's base, which is too heavily defended, and their technology is far superior to ours. It's normal that we can't win. How many people can you bring back this time?"

"Number one hundred... number one hundred and twenty!"

Sean's heart broke when he heard this. Of his elite force of over 13,000 men, 8,000 had been sent out, and only 100 had returned; the rest had been left behind.
