Let's rewind to half an hour earlier, around four in the morning. The sky was still gloomy, with a few birds flying by occasionally, seemingly in a hurry. The base staff, who had just gathered the poultry in the open area, were preparing their morning feed, humming a little tune, seemingly unaware of anything unusual.
Just as he was carrying the heavy feed bucket to the pigpen, he suddenly heard a shrill scream.
The zookeeper thought it was another attack by mutated rats, so he immediately put down the container, picked up a shovel, and rushed into the pigpen.
"You son of a bitch, you dare touch my pig? You've got a death wish!"
The pig farmer angrily opened the pigpen, and the pigs inside, seeing the door open, immediately tried to rush out, but he forcefully blocked the door.
"What's wrong with these pigs today? Did they suffer some kind of shock?"
Somewhat puzzled, the pig farmer tiptoed and peered inside the gate. He saw that all the pigs in the pen were trying to break free of their cages and escape. Several pigs that had already opened the gate rushed out and tried to break it down, but the farmer held them back firmly.
"They really are a bunch of beasts, they're so strong! But I don't seem to have found any pigs that have been bitten."
The zookeeper tiptoed into the pigpen again, but didn't see any other creatures sneaking in. Just as he was wondering what was going on, a few more pigs broke free of their restraints. However, because of the walls, the pigs were trapped in place, squealing incessantly.
Then the zookeeper looked at the stun gun in his hand and immediately cursed, "Damn it, I usually bring you food at this time, why are you so early today? Looks like you've all had too many good days and want to get a beating!"
After saying that, the zookeeper angrily pulled out an electric baton from his waist and stabbed it into the nose of a pig that was arching its gate. Instantly, sparks crackled and popped, and the pig convulsed before squealing and running away.
Upon hearing the sound of the electric sparks, the other pigs were immediately frightened and scurried back into their pen.
"If you don't discipline them for three days, they'll be climbing on the roof and tearing off the tiles. You've had too many good days. You all better behave yourselves. If anyone dares to make a move again, we'll be using an electric baton on them in a minute!"
The pig farmer pushed the pigs back into the pen, then walked around the pen with his hands behind his back. He didn't find anything unusual, but what surprised him was that all the pigs seemed to be frightened. They kept arching at the door, trying to get out, but the iron cages trapped them inside, and they couldn't escape at all.
The zookeeper was also puzzled. This situation had never happened before. In the past, when a few boars were in heat, they would occasionally squeal like this, but it was only a few. Today's situation was different. It seemed that all the pigs inside were squealing desperately, as if they had encountered some major disaster.
Scratching his head, the zookeeper didn't think much of it. He put his hands behind his back, carried the electric baton, and continued walking towards the feed room.
The same thing happened not only in pig farms, but also in cattle and sheep farms. Generally, roosters crow around 6 a.m., but this time, there was still about an hour until 6 a.m., but loud crowing could already be heard from the chicken coop.
All the keepers were puzzled. Today, these poultry and livestock seemed quite excited, each one was howling desperately, as if they had planned it together.
Around six o'clock in the morning, people started getting up and cooking. Because Lu Yuan had asked everyone to leave the camp the day before and come to this open space on the back mountain, everyone could only cook breakfast here now. Fortunately, they had brought all the cooking utensils and coal with them, so the food was plentiful.
Gradually, the aroma of breakfast filled the entire back mountain. Everyone came out of their tents, stretched, greeted each other, and chatted and laughed. They didn't pay much attention to the urgent notice that Lu Yuan had issued yesterday.
Just as everyone was holding their bowls and preparing to eat, a violent tremor suddenly came from beneath their feet.
A look of panic crossed everyone's eyes, and then someone shouted something.
"Earthquake!"
Then chaos erupted throughout the entire base.
Everyone desperately tried to find something to hold onto, but the earthquake grew stronger and stronger. At first, there were only slight tremors on the ground, but then the tremors gradually became more intense. The cooking utensils that were placed on the campfire could not withstand the violent shaking and fell into the embers.
Lu Yuan and the ministers of various departments shouted frantically, "Don't panic! Don't run around! Keep an eye on the children and the elderly!" But their calls didn't seem to get a response. Instead, they caused even greater panic. Many people ran desperately toward the base to protect their children.
Lu Yuan gently put his arm around Xiao Shan and tried to steady himself, but the tremors under his feet grew stronger and stronger. In an instant, Lu Yuan could see the distant mountain peaks shaking continuously, with some loose rocks sliding down from the mountaintops and crashing towards the camp at an extremely fast speed.
"Everyone move closer to the foot of the mountain, don't stay there, it's too dangerous there, stay away from the boulders!"
Lu Yuan shouted desperately at the people nearby, but people become extremely panicked when their lives are threatened, and they seem to ignore the advice of others, which is everyone's instinctive reaction.
