Feeling something was amiss, Lu Yuan glanced down at his feet and found himself in a desolate wasteland, devoid of anything, not even any other buildings. A chill ran down Lu Yuan's spine; had he drifted into a rift valley? If so, he was truly doomed.
He twisted his body, trying to change his gliding direction, but it was no use. He immediately looked around and saw that Liu Cheng and the others' paragliders had flown away.
After flying for an unknown amount of time, Lu Yuan finally felt his feet touch some soft ground. The entire ground was dark, and Lu Yuan knew that this was volcanic ash mixed with other surface dust caused by earthquakes.
Lu Yuan, his feet sinking into the muddy water, threw his paraglider aside. After walking for about ten minutes, he discovered that in some places the volcanic ash was up to his knees. Perhaps because it was such a desolate place, Lu Yuan had drifted off to somewhere else. This area might even have been designated as an uninhabited zone.
After walking for about half an hour, Lu Yuan couldn't help but take out some water and food from his dimensional space to fill his stomach, and his strength was immediately restored.
After walking for about half an hour, Lu Yuan suddenly saw a dilapidated house in the distance, and immediately excitedly took a few more steps towards it.
However, when he approached the house, he discovered that there were countless similar houses behind it. This seemed to be a newly built rural area with some unnamed streets. The shops next to it had been completely cleaned up, and the streets were covered with filth, but it was all buried by thick volcanic ash.
The entire street was dilapidated, with a few holes appearing underneath, which were the underground sewage systems. Although they had mostly collapsed, water occasionally flowed through these sewers, carrying away some volcanic ash, leaving these holes on the ground.
Not long after Lu Yuan left, several dejected-looking people suddenly appeared inside. Upon seeing Lu Yuan, they screamed as if they had seen a monster, and then quickly ran back to their residence.
Lu Yuan walked quickly and came to a crossroads. He noticed something was wrong ahead and was about to leave when a woman suddenly appeared. She was wearing dirty clothes, her face was covered in soot, her hair was tangled with filth, and she emitted a foul stench. Lu Yuan couldn't help but cover his mouth and nose.
"Brother! Brother!"
The woman tugged at Lu Yuan's trouser leg and knelt beside him, her eyes filled with a pleading look, her face ashen as if it had fallen into a pile of coal.
Lu Yuan glanced at the woman beside him with disgust and tried to pull her hand away, but the woman seemed to realize something. So she quickly wiped her face with her sleeve, and some of the black ash on her face was wiped away. It seemed that this woman should have been a pretty woman before the apocalypse.
The woman swallowed hard, then held up five fingers: "Five steamed buns or five bowls of rice, let's go there!"
After saying that, the woman turned around and looked at the dilapidated house behind her, and said in a low voice.
Seeing the look in her eyes, Lu Yuan immediately understood what she wanted to do, so he sighed, shook his head, and said, "Forget it, I can't afford to play this game!"
The woman didn't seem to intend to let Lu Yuan off so easily. She grabbed Lu Yuan's trouser leg again and said desperately, "Three steamed buns or three bowls of rice will do! No less than that!"
Lu Yuan shook his head again, saying coldly, "Sorry, I have no food. It's no use you coming to me. I'm in a hurry to get back!"
The woman gritted her teeth, her withered hand still tightly gripping Lu Yuan's trouser leg, which immediately angered Lu Yuan. He tried to pull the woman away, but she held up two fingers: "Two bowls of rice or two steamed buns, really, that's the least I can give you. I have several children to feed, and if we don't have anything to eat today, they will starve to death. Please, have mercy on me!"
Lu Yuan pursed his lips, then glanced at the other person, sighed, took out half a chocolate bar from his pocket, and tossed it to them.
"I have no food left, this is all I have, but I have something I want to ask you!"
When the woman saw the chocolate on the ground, her eyes lit up. She quickly picked it up, tore off the wrapper, and put it in her mouth, intending to eat it all at once. However, she stopped herself and only took a small bite, holding it in her mouth. A satisfied look immediately appeared on her face.
Then, the woman, still somewhat unsatisfied, took out another small piece of chocolate, put it in her mouth, and didn't swallow it for a long time.
"What's this place called? Is it part of Shanxi Province?"
Lu Yuan looked down at the woman's face and asked.
The woman then realized what was happening, so she shook her head and said, "This is no longer Shanxi Province, this is Anhui Province! Aren't you from here?"
A hint of surprise appeared in the woman's eyes. Lu Yuan looked suspicious after hearing his words. The plane had flown from Shanxi Province. Because it was an old plane, it flew very slowly. Even a fighter jet couldn't have covered hundreds of kilometers in just over ten minutes.
"Really? How could this be Anhui Province? Shanxi Province is hundreds of kilometers away from here. Are you kidding me?!"
The woman swallowed hard, then pointed behind her: "You can go into the city and ask; this is indeed Anhui Province!"
