Chapter 227 The Headless Case

In response to Kuroko's idea, Lu Yuan could only express his opinion with a middle finger.

However, he didn't refuse. After all, once he arrived in the inner city, his already scarce network of connections would become even smaller. Lu Yuan was hoping that Hei Zi could chat with him from time to time.

After seeing Hei Zi off, Lu Yuan lay in his room looking at the money in his wallet. Although he still had tens of thousands of yuan, enough for him to live here for a long time, the currency issued by each province was still the old Huaxia currency, but these currencies were required to be recorded. Only the new version of Huaxia currency could be bought and sold.

Lu Yuan has now been promoted to squad leader, and his monthly salary has increased from 800 yuan to 1,000 yuan. He also received a bonus of 10,000 yuan. This amount of money is neither a lot nor a little. He is not short of money, but if he were to live in the inner city, this amount of money would still be a bit tight.

After deducting monthly rent, utilities, food, and other expenses, there's basically not much left from his salary. Moreover, social obligations and other expenses also cost a lot of money. However, Lu Yuan's current situation is acceptable, since he's single and only needs to eat his fill. But for ordinary team members like Zhou Ming, it's much worse.

Zhou Ming was a member of the outer city garrison. His monthly salary was only five hundred yuan. If he were on his own, this money would be enough. However, after having a wife and children, the money became a bit tight. Lu Yuan finally understood why Zhou Ming always racked his brains to think about getting promoted when he ate.

...

After a busy day, Lu Yuan was a little tired. He found some food in the dimensional space and went to sleep fully clothed. However, every time he fell asleep, Lu Yuan would think of his family, and insomnia became a common occurrence.

Fortunately, Lu Yuan ate quite a few golden fruits, so he was not seriously injured. Apart from feeling a little sleepy during the day, there were no other effects.

The next morning, Lu Yuan changed into the new uniform of the inner city garrison. He didn't throw away his old uniform, not because he wanted to, but mainly because it would be more convenient for him to move between the inner and outer cities.

With his equipment in hand, Lu Yuan arrived at the Seventh Team's office area on time.

The team members who had already received the news were waiting for his arrival. When they saw Lu Yuan arrive, they immediately lined up, each with a very serious expression.

However, Lu Yuan noticed an inconspicuous little box on his desk. Lu Yuan knew that this must be a gift from several people to him. As for why they would give these gifts, Lu Yuan knew perfectly well. After all, they didn't know what kind of temperament or personality the new leader had, so giving him a gift before he arrived would make things look good.

If he really does something wrong in the future, he can't say anything then. After all, he has already accepted the gift, and he can't go too far. Hei Zi had told Lu Yuan about this when he came, but Lu Yuan didn't pay too much attention to it.

Lu Yuan then looked at everyone with a smile, his gaze sweeping over each person, who responded with a smile in return.

Lu Yuan cleared his throat and said, "Hello everyone, my name is Lu Yuan. From now on, we're all brothers. I hope you'll all take good care of me!"

The seven team members all clapped, their expressions showing excitement.

After finishing the serious matters, Lu Yuan chuckled and pulled out several packs of cigarettes from his pocket. He had taken them from the dimensional space last night, because if he wanted to be respected by everyone in Team Seven, a little gift was necessary.

Lu Yuan pulled out cigarettes and offered them out. One of the men, a man with a full beard, accepted one, looking somewhat surprised: "Wow! You have this kind of good stuff! Brother, you're something else!"

Lu Yuan was taken aback for a moment upon hearing this, then smiled and said, "They were all gifts from friends! I don't usually smoke myself!"

The bearded man who spoke was named Hou Qiang. He was a veteran in Team Seven, having previously served as an auxiliary police officer in the traffic police force for over ten years. However, he had never had the opportunity for promotion, mainly because he was somewhat stubborn and often offended people unintentionally with his words. After the previous captain, who had been investigated for embezzlement, left, Hou Qiang was actually supposed to take over the captain's position. But coincidentally, Lu Yuan had just solved a case and was directly appointed to the captain's position, which immediately made Hou Qiang somewhat unhappy.

Just when Lu Yuan thought the other party might cause trouble because he had taken his captain's position, he saw Hou Qiang finish a cigarette, stand up, and shake himself.

"Wow! I haven't had such good cigarettes in ages! Brother, you're a straightforward guy and you get things done! I'm happy to have you as the team leader!"

After saying that, Hou Qiang patted Lu Yuan on the shoulder.

The other team members covered their faces and remained silent. This guy was once again relying on his seniority to act like he was old and powerful! The new captain was, after all, a captain. He kept calling him "brother," but did the other team even consider him a brother? The team members slowly moved away from Hou Qiang, but he didn't notice at all.

What left Lu Yuan speechless was that Hou Qiang started to introduce the history of Team Seven to him. Of course, Team Seven had not been established for long, so there was basically no history to speak of. However, the history that Hou Qiang talked about was all about himself.

After listening for a while, Lu Yuan felt a little helpless. This guy was really a blockhead!

After a busy day, Lu Yuan spent most of his time familiarizing himself with some of the previous cases handled by Team Seven. However, due to the long time that had passed, there were quite a few cases that had piled up. Lu Yuan hadn't finished reviewing them even after a whole day. He felt speechless at the mess left behind by the previous team leader.
