Lu Yuan gently rubbed his head against his shoulder to wipe the sweat from his forehead, then looked down.
Du Hai had already descended to a depth even deeper than himself, and Ou Chen was not slow either, even trying to use the resistance between the ropes to help him slide down. Lu Yuan was terrified when he saw this; these mercenaries were indeed very fierce. Looking at the bottomless chasm, Lu Yuan decided to obediently slide down little by little.
So the three of them continued down. Lu Yuan sped up, but the gap between him and Du Hai and the other man was getting bigger and bigger. After about ten minutes, Lu Yuan felt that his back was soaked with sweat. He wondered if the other two felt the same way. Was it because the temperature around him was rising or because he had used up too much energy?
After sliding down for about ten minutes, Lu Yuan heard Ou Chen's voice coming from below.
"Hey, I've arrived. It's safe down there! There's a thick layer of volcanic ash, but no toxic fumes. You can come down without worry!"
Upon hearing Ou Chen's voice, Lu Yuan was somewhat surprised. He looked down and saw that he could indeed see the situation at the bottom of the valley. Ou Chen was untying the ropes while surveying the surroundings.
Then Du Hai arrived below, while Lu Yuan was still less than thirty meters away, indicating a significant gap between them.
Fortunately, both of them said there was no danger below. Lu Yuan followed Ou Chen's method, using his left arm to hold the rope tightly, and his right hand to maintain balance. Then he slowly lowered his body down, quickly loosened the rope with his right hand, and began to slide down.
Soon, Lu Yuan finally reached the bottom of the valley. When his feet touched the bottom, it felt like he was walking on a thick cashmere carpet, which was very comfortable. However, even through his thick boots, he could still feel that the temperature below was frighteningly high.
Ou Chen had already taken off his cotton coat and hung it on his shoulders. His face was covered in volcanic ash, and his T-shirt underneath was soaked with sweat, clearly indicating that he was also suffering from the heat.
While tidying up the ropes, Du Hai took out his personal tools from his pocket and pulled out a portable multi-functional compass. Opening the back cover of the compass, he found an electronic thermometer inside, which was very small but very precise.
They gently tested the nearby wall, and the electronic scale immediately displayed a 45-degree mark, which puzzled the three of them.
"That's strange. Although it's quite hot underground, the ventilation here is pretty good. It shouldn't be this hot!" Du Hai looked around and felt something was wrong.
"Hey, this is the apocalypse, where can we find a safe place? Let's just hope there's no poisonous fog here! Let's check around the area! We'll have Mr. Chen and Yanzi come down later! As long as we're sure there's no poisonous fog here, we can start working!" Ou Chen said impatiently.
"It's best to be careful. It's abnormally hot here. I suspect there's a volcano or geothermal activity nearby! Otherwise, it wouldn't be this hot!" Du Hai said with a frown. Clearly, years of wilderness survival had made him very nervous. After all, this place was two hundred meters underground. If something really happened, there would be no one to help him.
"What are you afraid of? It doesn't look so uncomfortable here. Why don't we split up and check the surrounding area, go up as soon as possible and bring everything down! We've been out for quite a while already!" Ou Chen ignored Du Hai's reminder and insisted on splitting up.
Du Hai was displeased upon hearing Ou Chen's suggestion, but he didn't say anything more. He turned around and gave Lu Yuan a questioning look.
When Lu Yuan came down, he was actually a little worried that poisonous fog might suddenly appear. However, when he thought about the place where his dimensional crystal was lit up, he couldn't help but be curious and wanted to see if there really was a large amount of dimensional crystal ore there. So after thinking for a while, Lu Yuan said, "Ou Chen is right. There isn't that much danger here. Why don't we go and check the area as soon as possible and try to get back up and bring the equipment over? But before we check, let's report the situation to Uncle Chen first!"
Du Hai could only nod helplessly after hearing Lu Yuan's idea, but he was secretly annoyed. He was supposed to be the guide here, but no one listened to his advice. He could only be more careful to avoid being tricked. He was not willing to risk his life for a little money.
So Lu Yuan picked up the walkie-talkie, pressed the button, and said, "Uncle Chen, we've arrived!"
Chen Zhengming's voice came through the walkie-talkie very quickly: "Lu Yuan, you've arrived! That's great! Are all three of you alright? Did you encounter any danger down there?"
"Without Uncle Chen, it's safe down there for now. The three of us will check the area and then go up right away!"
"Alright, alright, please be careful. Keep the walkie-talkies on! If you encounter any danger, leave the area immediately!"
"OK!"
After hanging up the phone, Lu Yuan looked at Ou Chen and the other man: "Let's split up, the three of us. I'll go over there, and you two go over here!"
Ou Chen immediately nodded. Du Hai was a little unhappy when he saw that he had to go to the other side with Ou Chen, but he saw that Lu Yuan had already taken the walkie-talkie and his own things and walked in the opposite direction.
After rounding a corner, Lu Yuan quietly turned around and saw that Ou Chen and Du Hai had already started exploring in the opposite direction. Although there was no poisonous fog in the valley, some fog was still rising due to the heat. The distance between Lu Yuan and the two was only about 100 meters, but their figures were already somewhat blurred.
