Chapter 287 The Spy

Two days later, Lu Yuan, exhausted, dragged himself to the conference room of Future Mining Company for a meeting. As soon as he entered the conference room, he heard a soft sigh coming from inside. So Lu Yuan stopped and stood in front of the door to straighten his clothes before going in.

Upon seeing Lu Yuan enter, all the management personnel stopped talking. Everyone present had chapped lips, sunken eyes, and heavy dark circles, clearly indicating that they hadn't had enough rest.

"You've all worked hard these past few days!" Lu Yuan said after glancing at everyone.

Everyone remained silent, heads bowed, clearly keeping something bottled up inside.

Finally, Yuan Cheng, the person in charge of Mine No. 3, mustered up the courage to stand up.

"President Lu, there's something we wanted to discuss with you today... we organized this meeting today because there's something we wanted to talk to you about!"

Lu Yuan didn't say anything, but simply nodded slightly.

Then, Yuan Cheng continued, "It's like this, President Lu, we're all in a desperate situation now. We can no longer hide the fact that the higher-ups have blocked our food, water, and electricity supplies. Many workers have already mentioned wanting to leave. We really... really have no other choice! Please, President Lu, have the mercy and let us go!"

Lu Yuan wasn't surprised at all by what the other person said. After all, everyone here had a family and a yard. They came here just to earn some money. But they hadn't been able to work for a long time. Although Lu Yuan had said that even if they didn't work, their wages would still be paid as usual, everyone still noticed something was wrong. Although food was still being supplied as usual, the reduction in water supply made everyone feel the crisis.

So these people inquired around, and eventually the truth came out; the water and power outages were discovered.

So the workers started to protest, and these were the first groups of people the management had brought over to question. Now that this had happened, the higher-ups still hadn't told them anything, which made all the workers feel like they had been cheated. After what happened with the gold mining team, everyone suddenly had a bad feeling, and their desire to survive led them to demand to leave the mine.

"Okay, I understand. Is there anything else?" Lu Yuan asked calmly.

Upon hearing Lu Yuan's words, everyone looked at each other, unsure how to respond. Was he planning to renege on his promise?

“Mr. Lu, it’s not that we’re making things difficult for you, it’s just that we’re all worried because we haven’t started work yet. The water and electricity problems are still unresolved, and it’s been more than a week now. Everyone’s water is being rationed every day. If this continues, everyone might get sick from dehydration. We’re just trying to survive, so please, have mercy on us,” Yuan Cheng said to Lu Yuan in a pleading tone.

Lu Yuan sighed, then slowly stood up from his seat and glanced around at everyone.

“I completely understand everyone’s anxiety. We have been actively working to resolve this issue, and we have made some progress on the water and electricity problems. I hope everyone can persevere a little longer, and we can get through this difficult time together. What awaits us is an unprecedentedly good life.” Lu Yuan raised his voice a few decibels, and everyone present looked at him with slight surprise, since the information they had heard was quite different from this.

"President Lu, please stop hiding it. We already know. It's not that we're unwilling to help the company through this difficult time, but the higher-ups in the inner city have completely cut off all our resources. If we continue to follow them like this, we won't have a good outcome. It's better to join them as soon as possible to save our lives."

Lu Yuan walked behind Yuan Cheng, gently patted his shoulder, and then suddenly tightened his grip on Yuan Cheng's shoulder. Yuan Cheng trembled and glanced back at Lu Yuan with a hint of wariness before lowering his eyes, not daring to meet Lu Yuan's gaze.

"Captain Yuan, what are you afraid of? Is there something on your mind? Why don't you tell us and we can help you solve it?" Lu Yuan squinted at Yuan Cheng, his eyes striking Yuan Cheng's heart like lightning, making Yuan Cheng tremble like a leaf.

"No...no, Mr. Lu, you must be joking! Hehe!" Yuan Cheng smiled awkwardly.

"At this point, you're still pretending. I've known for a while that something's wrong with you. I've been observing you privately for some time now. Tell me, what benefits did Liu Tianhu give you? Is he trying to undermine our team? Let me tell you, don't think you can easily sow discord with just a few words. I'll be frank with you. I, Lu Yuan, don't take this little trick of cutting off our food and water seriously."

Lu Yuan then walked to his seat and glanced around at everyone.

As soon as Lu Yuan said this, everyone present turned their slightly surprised gazes to Yuan Cheng. He immediately lowered his head, not daring to offer any explanation. He looked like a frightened little rabbit being stared at by a pack of big bad wolves.

"That's impossible. How could Lao Yuan have been sent by Liu Tianhu? He came in a long time ago, just like us."

"Yes, it's impossible for Liu Tianhu to have infiltrated. Besides, Lao Yuan usually has a very good reputation. How could he possibly be Liu Tianhu's spy?"

"Now that you mention it, I think it's possible. Old Yuan, did you take some benefits from them? Didn't you say before that your family wasn't short of money? Why are you now siding with the people in the inner city? I was wondering how they could have discovered our water and power outage beforehand when no one else had said anything during this time."
