The ship continued sailing forward, and Lu Yuan would occasionally chat with Captain Xiwen, mainly hoping to hear news about his family from him, which would put his mind at ease. Fortunately, Xiwen was a restless person and would tell Lu Yuan everything he knew. He would also occasionally teach Lu Yuan some shipboarding skills, making Lu Yuan's journey home not so boring.
One week later.
Lu Yuan woke up from the constantly swaying cabin, or rather, he was woken up by the cold, because in his sleep he felt as if the blankets on him had been pulled away, and his whole body was chilled to the bone.
Meanwhile, footsteps and noise could be heard constantly coming from outside the cabin.
Lu Yuan stepped out of the cabin and looked outside. He saw Xiwen and the others wearing heavy cotton-padded clothes moving back and forth on the deck.
"What's wrong? Why did the boat stop?" Lu Yuan asked in surprise.
As he spoke, a large amount of mist drifted out of Lu Yuan's mouth, giving him the feeling of passing through a harsh winter.
Xiwen rubbed his hands, which were red from the cold, and his expression was somewhat serious: "We've encountered an iceberg! We need to avoid it! We're stopping now to see if we can find a suitable route! The others have already gone to scout ahead! It's alright! If you're cold, you can go back!"
As he spoke, Xiwen took out a bottle of baijiu from his pocket and handed it to Lu Yuan: "Good stuff, have some and you won't be cold!"
Lu Yuan took the bottle and saw that the label had been rubbed so badly that the words on it were illegible. However, Lu Yuan could still smell that this was the most ordinary, low-quality liquor. This kind of thing was definitely considered good in District 5. Although it was artificial, low-quality liquor, it was made from pure grains. Although it was very different from the liquors before the apocalypse, and there were no classifications like soy sauce aroma or light aroma, it was simply made from fermented grains.
However, it should be noted that after the apocalypse, food has become a major problem for people. They can't even get enough to eat, let alone drink alcohol. It's good enough if they have enough grain to brew alcohol. No one would use precious grain to brew alcohol. But Xiwen managed to get a bottle of strong liquor.
Lu Yuan shook his head and handed it to the other person: "Forget it, you keep it, it's too precious! You still need to sail the boat!"
"Haha! It's alright, I'm used to it! Encountering glaciers is common, hurry up and have a drink!" Xiwen raised his hand and handed the bottle to Lu Yuan again.
Helpless, Lu Yuan could only take the bottle and take a sip. Immediately, a spicy sensation spread from his throat to his stomach, and his whole body was filled with warmth.
"Wow! That's awesome!"
Seeing Lu Yuan's face turn red instantly, Xiwen burst into laughter.
"I'm free anyway, let me help you out!" Lu Yuan felt a little embarrassed seeing everyone busy.
Although he was the employer, and Xiwen and the others were hired by him to help him find his family, it wasn't right for him to be idle by himself. Besides, the weather was too cold, and Lu Yuan didn't want to stay in the icy cabin.
Xiwen didn't stand on ceremony and handed a shovel to Lu Yuandao: "Then come with me to the deck and shovel some ice! There's just too much ice up there! If we don't shovel it down now, we won't be able to shovel it anymore!"
So, following Xiwen, Lu Yuan and his companion went up to the deck.
A layer of ice more than ten centimeters thick covered the entire deck. The wind was strong and the air was extremely humid. Due to the sudden drop in temperature, the water on the ship's side had not even melted before it froze directly onto the ship's side, as if someone had forcibly pulled out a long, horizontal icicle.
"Crack, crack!" Lu Yuan swung the shovel vigorously, shattering large chunks of ice. Lu Yuan's body also began to slowly heat up.
A thick fog drifted across the sea, obscuring people even ten meters away. The wind was strong, and the fog felt like layers of gauze covering his face. Soon, layers of frost formed on Lu Yuan's beard, eyelashes, and eyebrows, and his hair was frozen into icicles, making him look like a Super Saiyan from an anime.
Half an hour later, the ice on the deck was finally cleared away. Xiwen looked at Lu Yuan, panting and somewhat surprised.
"Bro, you've got great stamina! Aren't you tired?"
Lu Yuan waved his hand casually and said, "It's alright! Maybe I'm just finding it new and exciting!"
It was too cold on the deck, so Xiwen suggested going to the wheelhouse to chat and start a fire to wait for the others. So the two of them went back to the wheelhouse, Xiwen took out an alcohol stove and lit a small fire, and the two of them sat around the alcohol stove to warm themselves and smoke.
Soon, the driver's cab was quite warm, and Lu Yuan looked up at the time with some surprise.
"Xiwen, those few people have been scouting for over two hours now, they should be back by now!"
Xiwen was also a little puzzled: "Yes, according to their usual habits, they should be back by now. Why are they so late today? Don't worry, let me contact them via walkie-talkie first to see if they've encountered any danger!"
Lu Yuan nodded.
"Sister Han! Sister Han! Please respond! This is Xiwen! Where are you now?"
A burst of noise came through the walkie-talkie, but no one responded.
So Xiwen pressed the call button again and shouted, "Hanwen, Hanwen! Please respond if you receive this. This is Xiwen. Where are you now? Are you in any danger?"
But there was still no response from inside. Lu Yuan and his companion exchanged a glance and both sensed that something was wrong.
