Chapter 310 The Mysterious Village

Ten minutes later, the two met again. The village was not very large, and there were only about twenty or thirty households living there.

"There aren't many people here, and I don't know if there are any cars. Let's go in and take a look!" Lu Yuan said, expressing his idea.

Xiwen nodded: "Yes, that's fine!"

Then, the two of them walked into the village along the path.

Since all animals have become food for humans after the apocalypse, the practice of keeping dogs in rural areas has ceased. This made Lu Yuan feel somewhat melancholic. Back in his hometown, whenever a stranger entered the village, the village dogs would immediately start barking wildly from house to house, until eventually all the dogs in the entire village would join in.

Now that the dog was gone, the two of them didn't have to worry about being discovered, and they slowly made their way into the village.

However, as they passed a few houses, the two realized that something was amiss.

Lu Yuan reached out and stopped Xiwen, who was about to continue walking forward, and said softly, "Have you noticed the people from the houses ahead?"

Xiwen turned back to look at Lu Yuan in surprise, and after a moment of thought, she realized, "Yeah! It seems like I really didn't see any houses inside! But there were lights on!"

Suddenly, Lu Yuan felt an ominous premonition rising from his back, so he turned around sharply to look, but he didn't see anyone behind him. However, he was still a little scared.

So he whispered again, "Be careful, something feels off here!"

Xiwen nodded, but a hint of panic flashed in his eyes.

The village wasn't very big, but it looked quite eerie. Almost every place in the village where people lived had lights on, but after the two of them went through several houses, they didn't find anyone. It was a rather strange place. In addition, most of the houses here had been affected by the earthquake, and none of them were intact. They were all dilapidated and dangerous buildings. However, they didn't need to worry too much about staying there for a short period of time.

The two continued walking forward. This time, Lu Yuan kept looking back, feeling like someone was following him, but when he turned around, he found no one there, which made him feel particularly uncomfortable.

Finally, after walking for a while, Xiwen suddenly stopped, a look of surprise on his face.

"Lu Yuan, look! There's a car ahead! It's a sedan! Looks like we can leave this place!"

Lu Yuan was also very happy. After all, they came to find a car, and now they suddenly saw the car they had been dreaming of, which gave them hope of leaving this place.

To prevent them from encountering glaciers again on the way, each of them carried a little bit of gasoline.

The two of them had all the gasoline on them, hoping to find a car, fill up, and leave.

So, Lu Yuan looked back again to make sure no one was around before waving at Xiwen.

Xiwen quickly ran towards the car, then took out a wrench, pried open the gas cap, took out a thin wire, inserted it, and pulled it out. In the dim light, he glanced at the wire and found that there were no traces of gasoline on its surface, indicating that the car was out of gas.

So he opened the hood of the car again and checked the battery. Fortunately, there was still some power in the battery, enough to start the car. However, what annoyed the two of them was that three of the car's four tires were rotten, and one of the tires had been cut in half. The only solution was to replace the tire.

However, changing or repairing a tire would make a lot of noise, and Xiwen frowned as he looked at the car's condition.

"It's beyond repair. We don't have the necessary tools, and the car is badly damaged. Even if we could fix the tires, we wouldn't know if there are any other good parts inside!"

Lu Yuan pondered for a moment, thinking about how to get rid of the car. He had the ability to bring the car into the dimensional space, but he didn't want to expose his secret, so he had to give up. Now, if they wanted to repair the car, they could only negotiate with the villagers. If they could sell the car to them, that would be fine, but he was afraid that they were also Qiao Zhuang's men, and then they might really not be able to escape.

After thinking for a while, Lu Yuan still felt it was necessary to find the people in the village. After all, there weren't many people in the village, and even if they didn't want to sell the car and only wanted to capture people, the two of them were basically capable of getting rid of them.

So Lu Yuan said, "Forget it, let's see where the villagers are. Let's find them and see if they can sell us the car. We're not short of food right now, so they shouldn't refuse our deal for a broken car!"

Xiwen nodded in agreement with Lu Yuan's idea.

So the two continued onward, searching for the people of the missing village.

However, after searching around the village twice, the two still couldn't find anyone. Almost every house had its lights on, but they didn't consider going in to ask, as that would be too dangerous.

"That's strange, where are all the people? Every house has its lights on, but there's no one there. Where did they all go?"

Suddenly, Lu Yuan heard a noise in the distance, so he quickly reached out to stop Xiwen's rant.

"Shh, wait a minute, I think I heard something!"

Xiwen quickly shut his mouth and held his breath, afraid of disturbing Lu Yuan.

Lu Yuan squatted down and started listening intently, but the sound only lasted for a moment and then stopped. It seemed to be a person's voice, but Lu Yuan couldn't hear it very clearly and couldn't be sure if it was a human voice.
