However, after a few seconds of joy, the veteran fell silent again.
"Sigh! I've heard about the ore, but we can't mine it! This place is all sea, where are we supposed to find ore?"
Lu Yuan smiled slightly, then with a thought, he reached into his bag and immediately a small aluminum box appeared in his hand.
"Here are ten high-purity ores, enough to make about a thousand kilograms of catalyst solution. We also have our own territory in Zone 5. If you're willing, you can come to my place and get it. I can talk to my people!"
A tear immediately welled up in the veteran's eyes. He was too excited to express his feelings. He sniffled, suppressing the urge to cry, and then patted Lu Yuan's shoulder heavily.
"On behalf of all my comrades, thank you!"
"Brother, you're too kind. You saved us this time, and I don't even know how to thank you enough!"
"Hey! To be honest, I didn't intend to save you. I was just passing by and was on my way to get something to eat when this happened, and that's how I ended up saving you by accident."
The veteran was honest and didn't lie; a hint of embarrassment appeared on his face.
Lu Yuan, however, didn't care and asked, "Brother, can you take us there? We want to leave here as soon as possible! Qiao Zhuang's men are already watching us!"
The veteran nodded immediately: "Don't worry, as long as I'm here, I'll keep you safe. Perfect, take the rest of you with you!"
Lu Yuan was immediately alarmed. He had just heard the other party vaguely reveal that he knew where Han Wen and the others were hiding, but he didn't expect that the other party actually knew. This made Lu Yuan realize that the veteran's strength was extraordinary.
So, Lu Yuan carried the girl on his back again, and the group quickly ran towards Han Wen and the others.
Upon arriving at the location, Han Wen and his companions emerged from the pile of rocks after hearing the coded signal, only to find four people there, which surprised them.
"Sister Han, this is someone from the veterans' base. He saved us. And this girl is..."
At this point, Lu Yuan looked at the girl again, only to see that she didn't seem to care at all, and said with a grateful smile, "My name is Sun Xue'er! Thank you for saving me!"
Han Wen quickly stepped forward and grabbed the girl, and a trace of pity appeared on his face when he saw the wounds all over her body.
"It's alright, it's alright! Did you not find the car? No problem, we'll just walk there!"
However, the veteran shook his head: "No need, I'll send a signal to my comrades right now, and they'll send a car to pick us up!"
Upon hearing this, Lu Yuan was overjoyed. He didn't have to walk back anymore; this was fantastic news.
The old soldier pulled a pendant the size of a button from around his neck, then flipped his hand and somehow produced a button battery, which he then inserted into the pendant.
Then, after pressing the pendant several times in a regular pattern, a faint green light flashed on the pendant.
Then the veteran stuffed the pendant into his pocket.
"Everyone, just wait around here. My comrades will be here to pick us up soon!"
Seeing everyone looking curiously at the pendant he had just used, the veteran explained, "Oh, that was a signal transmitter. It requires a special code to receive signals. It's a long-wave signal transmitter. The signal here has been completely blocked, so short-wave phones are unusable."
Everyone suddenly realized.
So the group sat down on the ground and started chatting.
However, the veteran was still cautious and did not reveal his unit number or unit. He only mentioned it briefly before moving on. On the other hand, Lu Yuan and his group were asked more questions.
Han Wen and the others were all members of that mysterious organization, and there were many things they couldn't say. However, they had fabricated a very convincing past for themselves, and the veteran didn't seem to care too much about it.
After chatting for a while, everyone felt a bit thirsty, so Hanwen opened his backpack and took out some water and food.
The food was all brought by Lu Yuan, including some compressed dried vegetables, noodles and rice noodles, and some meat. There wasn't much fruit left, mainly because he hadn't brought much in the first place. After all, it's heavy and takes up a lot of space, so a little was enough.
When Han Wen handed the item to the veteran, the veteran immediately swallowed hard.
"You...you still have so much food? That's enough for our whole company to eat for a week!"
Looking at the backpack full of food, the veteran's stomach couldn't help but growl a few times. He had already forgotten what meat tasted like. After the apocalypse, they were sent to various places to hold their ground and maintain local order. However, a sudden earthquake caused them to lose contact with everyone. Unexpectedly, here, their guns were no longer effective. Most people preferred to stay with Qiao Zhuang, who had food supplies. The close relationship between the military and civilians before the apocalypse was gone forever.
"Haha, it's alright, brother, I'll help you sort out the food problem! Don't worry!"
The veteran nodded, and without any hesitation, grabbed a piece of beef jerky and stuffed it into his mouth to chew.
It seemed like he hadn't eaten meat in so long that the veteran's throat felt like it was on fire. He couldn't swallow the jerky in his mouth and choked until his face turned red.
Lu Yuan quickly handed him a bottle of water: "Brother, take it easy, have some water!"
