Chapter 335 Borrowing People

Zhou Tong went to find vehicles and fuel on his mission, while Lu Yuan kept a close eye on grain production during this time.

With nothing to do at the camp, Xiao Shan was assigned the task of storing the food by Lu Yuan.

After all, it's their own food, and they feel more at ease using it from their own family.

After dinner, the two lay in bed, each busy with their own things. Xiao Shan sat on the bed organizing the day's food inventory, while Lu Yuan was focused on figuring out how to cultivate the wasteland.

Just as Lu Yuan was lost in thought, he heard his grandmother coughing outside the door.

Xiao Shan's face immediately turned red.

"It's getting late, go to bed early!" Grandma said softly from outside.

"Okay, Grandma, you should go back and rest early too! It's so cold outside, don't come out!" Lu Yuan said somewhat embarrassedly.

Lu Yuan knew what his grandmother meant, after all, for her and his grandfather now, giving them a great-grandson or great-granddaughter was even more important than having enough to eat.

"Turn off the lights!" Xiaoshan said, her face flushed.

Lu Yuan hummed in agreement and reached out to turn off the light.

After a period of turmoil, Lu Yuan and Xiao Shan lay in bed and had a private talk.

However, neither of them felt sleepy, so they chatted casually about other things.

"By the way, is managing the grain warehouse tiring lately?" Lu Yuan asked casually.

"It's alright, but it's not as comfortable as it used to be back in our hometown! Managing the food for more than two hundred people is a bit of a headache."

"Yes, after all, we're not just one family anymore. Now there are over two hundred more mouths to feed, and everything costs money! We can't afford not to pay attention."

Lu Yuan sighed, then suddenly thought of a question and asked, "By the way, have the grain reserves been replenished yet?"

"To be honest, no. After all, you're taking a lot of grain out of the warehouse every day, and there's simply no way to store any more! Are those rotten pieces of wood of yours really any use?"

"Hehe, don't worry! It's just better to be prepared!"

"So mysterious again! By the way, is this extreme cold disaster you mentioned really coming?"

"I think so, but I only dreamt about it, so I don't know if it's real! Anyway, we have enough food for now, that's fine!"

"That's not nearly enough to stockpile a year's worth of food, as you said!"

"Sigh! Let's talk about that later! I actually have an idea!"

"Oh? What are your thoughts?"

"Since so many people on the island are starving, if we get them to help us with the work, wouldn't our production increase?"

"You mean find someone from outside? Those people are unreliable! What if they leak our secrets to the people of the United States? Wouldn't that attract those people?"

"Hehe! I mean, let them handle the construction of the underground fortress! Our people should continue to cultivate the wasteland on this mountain! We can hire some of their people to cultivate the wasteland in the early stages, and then have our own people do the planting!"

Xiao Shan was still somewhat worried.

"What if they secretly bring people here?"

"Set up a barrier! Just make sure they can't see it!"

The two chatted until late, and before they knew it, Xiao Shan had fallen asleep. Lu Yuan couldn't help but continue talking until he heard Xiao Shan's faint snoring, at which point he gave a wry smile.

The next morning, Du Heng arrived at the camp with several people.

These are the same people who discussed how to resist the United States a while ago.

This time, however, the balding man's eyes were filled with anger, as if he wanted to settle scores with someone.

Upon seeing Lu Yuan approach, the balding man immediately walked up to him and questioned him in an accusatory tone: "We agreed to form an alliance, so why are you secretly providing food to the people of the United States? This is a breach of contract, do you understand what a breach of contract is?"

Seeing the other person's angry expression, Du Heng thought they were about to argue, so he quickly came over and tried to calm them down, saying, "What's going on! Let's talk inside! We haven't done anything to betray the Alliance! Watch your words!"

The man angrily flicked his sleeves, but Lu Yuan remained unfazed and walked straight into the conference room tent.

"Tell me! Why did you do this? What benefits did they give you? You've gone to such lengths to help them; you're aiding and abetting evil!" As soon as he entered the tent, the balding man raised his voice again and shouted at Lu Yuan.

"Alright, sit down and talk! Pour some tea for Mine Manager Liu!"

The little boy next to him immediately left the room and went to the tea room next door to fetch some tea.

After everyone was seated, Lu Yuan glanced around at them.

"Actually, I had my reasons for doing this!"

The man asked with some confusion, "Purpose? What is your purpose?"

"Heh! How severe are the sanctions imposed on you by the United States lately?"

The group exchanged puzzled glances: "It seems less serious than before! But what does that have to do with you delivering food to them?"

"Yes! They're sanctioning us, not you. Don't talk like that without understanding the situation! How would you feel if we did that?"

"Exactly! If you can cooperate, then cooperate; if you don't want to cooperate, then say so as soon as possible. Stop being a two-faced opportunist!"

Hearing the sarcastic remarks from the crowd, Du Heng, who was standing to the side, couldn't stand it anymore.

Upon seeing Du Heng about to stand up and engage in a verbal battle with the group of scholars, Lu Yuan quickly reached out and pressed him down, indicating that only by letting them speak their minds would they listen attentively to what he had to say.

As expected, after a few minutes, everyone saw that Lu Yuan showed no remorse for his accusations and did not stand up to deny them.
