"But..." Xiao Shan wiped the sweat from her father's forehead with a touch of heartache.
"Alright, actually I don't need to do it, but I'm just worried about whether the people below will work properly. Let them work for a few days first! It's okay! Besides, after not exercising for so long, my legs and feet have become a bit clumsy. After sweating it out today, I finally feel much better!"
"Oh, right, here's a list of all the food we harvested today. Could you put it into storage later? We can take stock of it then!"
As he spoke, Xiaoshan's father took out a list from his pocket and handed it to Xiaoshan.
"Everything has been delivered to the warehouse entrance for you!"
Xiao Shan nodded, and as her father was leaving, she added one last thing: "Dad! If you're tired, take a good rest. You're getting old, not like you used to be!"
Xiao Shan's father waved to Xiao Shan without turning around, saying, "Alright, I know. Just don't go looking for Lu Yuan!"
"Sigh! Dad's just so competitive! Really!"
With that in mind, Xiao Shan took the list to the warehouse. Several warehouse managers were counting and registering the food. They greeted Xiao Shan when they saw her.
Xiao Shan nodded slightly, and felt a sense of satisfaction as she watched sacks of various foods being delivered to the warehouse.
When they returned to the tent that evening, Lu Yuan had not yet come back, so Xiao Shan asked about her grandmother.
"Grandma, hasn't Lu Yuan come home for dinner these past two days?"
Grandma nodded slightly, her expression somewhat surprised: "Xiaoshan, you haven't seen Xiaoyuan these past two days?"
"Yeah! I've been a bit busy these past few days! Lu Yuan's probably been busy the whole time!"
"Sigh! That Xiao Yuan is really something, he never seems to know when to stop when he gets busy! I just stewed a chicken, I'll take it to Xiao Yuan in a bit and tell him to come home early! We've only been married a short time, how can he be away from home every day!"
Grandma was nagging as she got up to prepare food for Lu Yuan.
Xiao Shan quickly stopped her grandmother: "Grandma, you're old and your legs aren't very strong. Let me go! I need to talk to him about something!"
Grandma's wrinkles immediately smoothed out, and she nodded repeatedly, "Good! Good! I'm relieved that my granddaughter-in-law is going!"
After finishing her meal, Xiaoshan found a lunchbox, washed it, and packed the heated chicken soup, some rice, and several other heated dishes into it.
Before leaving, Grandma gave her some more instructions. After saying goodbye to Grandma, Xiaoshan quickly walked towards Lu Yuan's office area.
It was past 8 p.m., which was the workers' rest time. Most of the workers were eating and chatting near the tent area with their lunchboxes.
To ensure sufficient power, very few lights are used in the tent area, so that the power supply for the mountain-opening project can be uninterrupted.
The wind here is very strong, so several huge wind turbines were set up outside the camp. These were dismantled from other uninhabited areas, enough to power the mountain-opening equipment.
Lu Yuan's tent was still lit, and a figure could be seen inside, busy at a table.
Xiao Shan originally came to ask Lu Yuan if he could make some arrangements for his father so that he wouldn't be so tired, but seeing this scene, she felt a pang of sadness in her heart, and her previous dissatisfaction turned into heartache.
Gently lifting the tent flap, one could see Lu Yuan frowning, smoking a cigarette, and scribbling on the drawings on the table, while a calculator beside him displayed a string of numbers.
The desktop was a mess, with drawings and documents scattered everywhere, along with some work progress reports.
Xiao Shan entered very quietly, and with the sounds of drilling from a construction project nearby, Lu Yuan didn't even notice her coming in.
There was a bowl of sweet potato porridge on the table that had gone completely cold, and the fire on the stove had been out for who knows how long.
Xiao Shan suddenly felt an urge to cry, so she gently placed the lunchbox on the coffee table next to her, then walked behind Lu Yuan and gently put her hands on his lower back.
Startled by this, Lu Yuan immediately put down his pen, gently sniffed the faint fragrance emanating from Xiao Shan, and smiled slightly.
What brings you here?
"Hmph! If I hadn't come, you would have starved to death here!"
Lu Yuan smiled sheepishly: "Oh, not at all! I've just run into some problems, and I'm currently trying to resolve the food issue!"
Then Lu Yuan gently took Xiao Shan's warm little hand and pulled it into his arms: "What? Did you miss me?"
"No way! That's just rude!" A blush crept across Xiao Shan's face.
"Oh right, don't rush, eat first! Grandma made chicken soup for dinner! And a few side dishes too! Eat first, then get to work!"
"Oh! There's chicken soup too! I'll have to try it!"
As he spoke, Lu Yuan walked up to the lunchbox, gently opened the lid, and a fragrant aroma of food wafted out. Only then did Lu Yuan realize that he was starving.
Just as he was about to eat, Xiaoshan gently patted his hand: "Wait a minute, I'll go get you some hot water! Wash your hands before you eat!"
Just as Lu Yuan was about to say "Don't bother," he saw Xiao Shan carrying a washbasin to the next tent, fetching a basin of hot water, and bringing it in.
With warm water poured onto his hands, Lu Yuan felt incredibly happy.
"It feels so good to have a wife!"
"You're only just realizing that now? By the way, you need to take better care of your health from now on! If you keep pushing yourself like this, your body will break down sooner or later!"
Lu Yuan, however, bent his arm to show off his strong limbs and said, "How could that be! I'm perfectly healthy right now!"
