Chapter 340 A Minor Interlude

When the people nearby saw that it was Lu Yuan, they quickly made way for him.

Lu Yuan approached and took a closer look. The deceased were not very old. Although their faces were dirty, their approximate ages could still be discerned. They were mostly in their early twenties.

Moreover, Lu Yuan had met these people before; they were from his camp, not outsiders. Although they hadn't exchanged many words, Lu Yuan still had some impression of them.

Seeing Lu Yuan's gloomy expression, everyone around him lowered their heads and dared not utter a sound.

"Who did this?" Lu Yuan asked in a low voice.

Immediately, even the sounds of people working nearby stopped, and more and more people gathered around.

The news spread quickly, and some people in the old camp recognized the faces of the dead and immediately panicked.

Seeing that no one spoke, Lu Yuan asked again, "Who discovered it?"

After a while, a middle-aged man slowly walked out of the crowd.

"Boss Lu... it was... it was me who found them. I found these people in the mountains outside!"

"In the mountains? Come on, take me to see!" Lu Yuan felt extremely sad. Although he wasn't particularly close to these people, these deceased had all survived with his parents since he left. While it didn't mean they were exceptionally loyal, they were certainly more reliable than outsiders.

So the man quickly led the way, with Lu Yuan and a group of people following behind him.

After walking for about ten minutes, the man stopped and pointed to a ravine, saying, "Boss Lu... this is it! I found it here when I went to the toilet!"

Lu Yuan didn't speak, but just nodded slightly, and then walked to the ravine.

This mountain hollow is extremely dangerous, like the gaping maw of a giant beast. If you don't look closely, you can't see what's inside at all.

Lu Yuan walked further inside and saw bloodstains everywhere on the ground. However, the bloodstains had long since dried, and Lu Yuan had no equipment to analyze when the bloodstains were left.

After pondering for a moment, Lu Yuan stepped forward and looked at the people behind him, asking, "If anyone knows the truth, they can come to me privately! Or you can write me a note! I will definitely pursue this matter to the end! A reward of fifty catties of meat will be given to anyone who provides clues!"

Then Lu Yuan looked at the person who discovered the body again, and felt that the person's eyes were evasive.

So he asked softly, "Which camp are you from?"

"Replying to Boss Lu, I'm from Boss Huang Feng's side!"

Lu Yuan nodded. This Huang Feng was the one who had argued with him back then. After being ignored by Lu Yuan, he begged for forgiveness the next day. Lu Yuan had nothing to say about this person. There are fence-sitters everywhere these days. After all, everyone is just trying to survive. Lu Yuan just wanted to better manage the new people under him, so as long as he was intimidated, that was enough.

"What's your name? Go to the logistics department and get twenty pounds of meat later!"

The man immediately showed a hint of excitement: "Thank you, Boss Lu, my name is Qin Hai!"

"Okay! Qin Hai, I'll remember you! Go now!"

"Alright, everyone go back to your work!"

Everyone sighed and then left.

However, Lu Yuan firmly remembered the man's face.

After everyone had left, Lu Yuan remained standing in the same spot, surveying his surroundings as he searched for new evidence.

After looking around for a while, Lu Yuan didn't make any new discoveries. The ravine wasn't very deep, only about ten meters deep. Further in, there were piles of rubble, and there wasn't anywhere nearby to hide anything.

So Lu Yuan turned to leave, but when he saw the place Qin Hai was pointing to, he suddenly remembered something.

“It takes more than ten minutes to get from here to the camp entrance. This man is Huang Feng’s subordinate. Their work area is in the East Mountain, and the surrounding area is all tents. So he has to go around the tents to work in the cave in the East Mountain. This round trip takes half an hour!”

"Work is so stressful these days, even taking a pee takes half an hour, haha! What a liar!"

Lu Yuan sneered inwardly, and suddenly understood something. He then slowly unraveled some other clues about the matter.

"Each of these corpses must weigh at least 100 pounds, and you can't exert any force on a dead person. They're heavier than living people. He's less than 1.7 meters tall and so thin, there's no way he could move these people!"

Thinking of this, Lu Yuan was immediately filled with rage.

"Damn it! They dared to cause trouble right under my nose! Don't let me find out who did it!"

Lu Yuan immediately strode towards the camp.

Upon arriving at his office, Lu Yuan immediately sought out Du Heng.

"Have the deceased been properly taken care of? Have their families had any strong reactions?"

Du Heng's face was tinged with sadness: "Alas! One of them had just gotten married, and less than half a month later, he died. Another had a younger brother, and the rest are all alone! I've already sent the compensation money to them! Their families haven't reacted much, but that child who's not even seven years old is quite pitiful. Now that no one is taking care of him, he looks really pathetic!"

"Damn it! Who did this? What did you find out?"

Du Heng shook his head: "No, I've been conducting security checks in the West District lately. There's been less management in the East District, but I've already sent people to check!"
