However, Lu Yuan did not say these words aloud, since only he knew these things, and if he said them, it might expose him.
So he had no choice but to stop talking and just consider it a silly suggestion he made to help his family relieve their boredom.
Everyone continues to do what they're supposed to do, and finds something to do when they have nothing to do.
In late April, the sky became increasingly overcast, creating a particularly oppressive atmosphere. Everyone felt that it would snow, but after a long period of anticipation, the sky remained overcast and snow did not fall.
This made Zhou Chen extremely upset.
"Brother, why isn't it snowing yet? I want to build a snowman!"
"Why are you building a snowman! Aren't you cold enough already? You're just making things worse! Stay home, I'm going to go get some water!"
After saying that, Zhou Tong changed into his down jacket and went out.
To prevent the water source from running out, Lu Yuan specially dug a double-layered reservoir near their private cave. Because of the freezing weather, Lu Yuan added some water to prevent it from freezing. However, the water didn't taste very good, and drinking too much of it made one very thirsty. But it was still much better than having no water at all.
Zhou Tong stared at the cold wind, carried the bucket of water to the cave entrance, took out his key, and gently opened the door.
The cave was pitch black, and to prevent people from falling into the water, they specially built a fence around it.
Zhou Tong held onto the railing and slowly threw the bucket into the puddle to fetch water. Usually, after throwing it in, there would be a "plop" sound, but today Zhou Tong felt very curious.
Because the bucket did not come into contact with water after it was dropped in.
"Huh? The water's gone so fast? Really?" Zhou Tong asked suspiciously, pulling out his flashlight and shining it inside.
In the pitch-black cave, a huge pit appeared before them, but there was no water inside. Only the rope hanging from the railing swayed slightly, and a wooden bucket hanging below rocked back and forth.
"Holy crap! Who did this? They drained all the water!"
Zhou Tong was annoyed. He was planning to take the water back to cook something nice for his girlfriend and wash her clothes, but he didn't expect that the water was gone, which made him feel a little upset.
Just then, another noise came from outside. Han Wen, wearing a thick cotton coat, walked in carrying a bucket. He greeted the person inside.
"Hey, someone's here today! I've been so bored these past few days, wanna come over and play cards sometime?"
As Han Wencai approached, he saw Zhou Tong, looking utterly dejected, leaning against the railing, shining a flashlight inside.
"Brother Zhou, what are you looking for? Did something fall into the water?"
"Ugh! Don't even mention it! Look for yourself! There's no water left!"
Upon hearing Zhou Tong's words, Han Wen quickly took off his hat and walked over. In the light of the flashlight, Han Wen could only see a smooth puddle that still shone with the light of water, but some areas had completely dried up, revealing steel plates underneath.
"Who did this? Did someone from outside come and steal the water?"
Zhou Tong shook his head: "I don't know. I haven't been out lately. I only came out to check when the water ran out, and I didn't expect there to be no water! Damn it! It must be those guys! They love to steal!"
After saying that, Zhou Tong spat on the ground, only to find that he was so thirsty that he couldn't spit out any more saliva.
"No, Brother Zhou, give me the flashlight! Let me see!"
Upon hearing Han Wen's words, Zhou Tong quickly handed her the flashlight.
Han Wen shone his flashlight back and forth at the bottom of the pit for a long time, and finally found something wrong in a corner.
"Brother Zhou, look! There seems to be a crack over there!"
Zhou Tong quickly widened his glasses and looked down. Sure enough, there was an inconspicuous hole in the corner, with water constantly seeping down and bubbles occasionally rising to the surface.
"I'll go down and take a look!" Zhou Tong quickly took off his coat, grabbed the railing, and jumped down.
With a thud, Zhou Tong landed steadily at the bottom of the pit, a flashlight dangling from his mouth, and walked toward the crack he had just been in.
Reaching out and touching the crack, Zhou Tong finally understood why the water had disappeared.
"Damn it! This is it! There's a pit down here! The sheet metal was probably crushed by the ice outside!" As he spoke, he shone his flashlight on the corner again, and sure enough, there were several places outside that were deformed, and the rocks inside were starting to bulge inward, obviously frozen by the extremely cold weather outside.
"Let's go find Lu Yuan and discuss what to do now that there's no water!"
Zhou Tong nodded, and the two of them headed toward Lu Yuan's house.
After knocking a few times, Lu Yuan opened the door from the inside and saw Zhou Tong and Han Wen come in, so he quickly welcomed them in.
"Oh my! What a pleasant surprise! We were just getting bored! Come on, come and play for a while! My mother-in-law just braised some pig's head meat, come and have a taste! You can also have a meal here!"
However, Zhou Tong grabbed him.
"Something's happened!"
"Huh?" Lu Yuan quickly turned around and saw Zhou Tong take off his hood and look dejected.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Hanwen, who was standing to the side, had already taken off his hood and then explained everything.
"Oh no! The metal sheet is rotten? This is terrible! Is there no water left?"
Han Wen nodded: "Yes! Brother Zhou just looked, there's a half-meter-long opening in the corner, and that's where the water is flowing out!"
