Chapter 371 The Abandoned Military Base

Next, Xiaoshan was the second person, followed by Hanwen, Xiaoshan's father, Lu's father, and then Xiwen and the others. When everyone had arrived at their designated spots, they finally relaxed.

"Let's leave this rope here for now; we might have to use it again on our way back!"

As Lu Yuan spoke, he packed his bags: "If it hadn't been destroyed, we would have forged another route. I just don't know if this rope can withstand the ice!"

As we continued our journey through the rift valley, we could clearly hear a wisp of ice and snow in the air, blown down from the glacier.

They continued walking for about thirty kilometers ahead, and a place surrounded by barbed wire appeared before them.

Lu Yuan remembered that there was no barbed wire here before. They came from here when they first landed on the island, but later, after learning that the United States of America had drifted here and become the last island of the entire group, their defensive fortifications were built here.

To prevent any accidents, Lu Yuan used a test pen to check the wire mesh and found that the power had been out for a long time, and long icicles were hanging from the wire mesh.

The group squatted to the side, peering through binoculars, but no one seemed to be stopping them. There were no sentries, though there was one in the distance, which appeared to have collapsed after something happened and no one ever got it back up.

"It looks like there's no one inside!"

Lu Yuan peered inside through his binoculars for a while and said, "Could it be that the people from the United States have already evacuated?"

Xiwen then pointed to the area ahead and said, "Look there, around three o'clock!"

Everyone focused their attention on the three o'clock position, where a huge object wrapped in black cloth could be seen on an open space in the distance.

Although we don't know what's inside, we can tell from the shape of the helicopter that it's a military transport aircraft, and not an ordinary civilian helicopter.

Lu Yuan had seen it on some websites and in movies, and was quite familiar with the name of this big guy. It was the famous Apache attack helicopter.

The Apache helicopter boasts exceptional carrying capacity and formidable combat capabilities, making it virtually unmatched in the air. It is a crucial component in both ground and air operations and a prized asset of the Air Force and Marine Corps.

But now everything seems peaceful here. The Apache helicopter is covered with a black cloth, and its capabilities are clearly a thing of the past.

"There seem to be some more over there. I guess it's a military camp, but the lights inside all look off!"

Lu Yuan peered inside through the binoculars for a while: "How about we sneak in now, and if anything unexpected happens, we'll bring you back out!"

Actually, their destination wasn't here, but rather the glacier to the right of the lighthouse. This place was just a stop along the way.

Upon hearing Lu Yuan's words, Lu's father felt a chill run down his spine: "Are you crazy, you brat? This is a military base of the United States! If you barge in like this, they'll definitely open fire!"

"Yes, let's not take the risk. We don't know if there are people inside, but it's best not to break the law. People from the United States are notoriously arrogant. If we rush in and get shot, it will be troublesome!" Xiaoshan's father also disagreed with taking the risk.

A bespectacled man standing nearby adjusted his glasses and said, "I don't think there's anyone in here!"

"What?"

Lu Yuan turned around and looked at the other person in surprise: "How do you know there's no one in here?"

The other person scratched his face and pointed to a huge tent in the distance: "That should be their command post, and there should be a lot of power supply equipment and gear nearby. You see, everything over there has been dismantled."

I just took a close look, and they've removed all the US military flags from the entire base. Clearly, they've abandoned it!

Upon hearing the other party's words, Lu Yuan felt a surge of excitement and couldn't help but want to go and see for himself. After all, the United States was a technological and military superpower in the world before the apocalypse.

Although everything in the base may have been moved, Lu Yuan felt that even if nothing could be found, the Apache attack helicopter covered by the black cloth would definitely satisfy his hobby as a pseudo-military enthusiast.

This isn't a 1:1 scale figure; it's a real, massive metal machine. If I could get my hands on it, the trip would definitely be worthwhile.

"I think there shouldn't be any problem. How about I try it first? I have a gun here, so I'll fire a shot and see. If we encounter a counterattack, we'll run away quickly. If there's no counterattack, we can go in and test it out, okay?"

Lu Yuan's suggestion was met with a positive response from several young people, who all expressed their willingness to go in and take a look. After all, it was a heavily guarded military camp, and if they could get their hands on the equipment inside, it would be a huge windfall.

Xiao Shan was somewhat opposed, but seeing the burning desire in Lu Yuan's eyes, she gritted her teeth and said, "Since you like it so much, let's go. But please be careful!"

Lu Yuan nodded excitedly, then took out a pistol from his pocket, aimed it at a tent in the distance, and pulled the trigger.

A gunshot rang out, breaking the silence of the night, and then there was silence.
