Chapter 387 The Threat of the Giant Beast

Waves crashed against the shore, and the sea breeze grew even fiercer. However, this was a sheltered harbor, so although there was still a sea breeze, it was much better than other places.

The steak was thrown into the sea, and after more than an hour, there was still no sign of it.

Lu Yuan stared at the chains, lost in thought: "This monster is very wary. Why isn't it coming out? Does it eat live prey?"

Having this idea, he quickly made an excuse to leave, then went to the other side of the mountain, retrieved a live cow, and led it to the shore.

"Let's try it with a cow, otherwise we won't be able to determine if it's the same animal, and our journey might be delayed!"

Zhou Tong nodded, then blindfolded the bull and dragged it along the reins to the edge of a cliff. The wind on the cliff was strong, making it difficult for people to stand steadily.

Zhou Tong carefully dragged the reins and gently whipped the cow's rump with a small stick. However, the weather here was too cold, and the cow was shivering from the cold. Not knowing where the road ahead was, it walked very slowly and looked very anxious when it saw Lu Yuan.

"Get the hell out of here!"

Zhou Tong pulled the ox by its reins and dragged the unwilling ox to the edge of the cliff, while Lu Yuan and the others followed behind, dragging long iron chains.

Then, Zhou Tong felt that the distance was about right, so he waved to Lu Yuan and then kicked the cow off the cliff.

With a "plop," a huge splash of water rose from the surface. The cow struggled on the surface of the sea for a couple of moments, but because it couldn't swim, it sank to the bottom immediately.

As the others pulled on the ropes from behind, Lu Yuan suddenly felt that their actions were particularly foolish. After all, it was a huge monster that could shake glaciers, and it was practically impossible for just a few of them to trap it.

Then Lu Yuan called out to everyone, and they found a huge rock, tied the iron chain to it, and returned to the shore to observe the movement under the sea.

"Plop, plop," several bubbles rose from the water, which was made by the cow sinking to the bottom.

After a few minutes, the sea became completely still and lifeless. The iron chain sags straight down, but there is still no movement below.

"That's strange. Does that mean even living creatures won't work? Does this mean we need to use humans as bait to lure this monster up?"

Xiwen stared intently at the sea and muttered to himself, "If we really have to use people as test subjects, how many people would it take to fill this thing's stomach?"

Lu Yuan turned to look at the other person: "What? Do you want to go down and give it a try?"

Xiwen immediately rolled his eyes: "Don't joke around, this big thing eating me is like us eating a peanut, I'm not even enough to fill its teeth."

Everyone burst into laughter and continued to observe.

The sea was turbulent, and Lu Yuan would occasionally walk up to the cliff and tug at the iron chain to see if there was any movement below. However, after several hours of waiting, he still failed to attract the giant beast.

"That's strange. Could this giant thing really be going to eat people?" Lu Yuan stood on the cliff and looked down. Apart from the surging sea, there seemed to be no movement below.

In order to observe better, Lu Yuan did not leave this time, but stayed here with everyone. Xi Wen and the others waited for a long time but there was no movement, so they continued to do their work. After all, it would be quite difficult for them to repair such a big hole in the bottom of the ship.

The bottom of the ship is divided into two layers, mainly for drainage to increase buoyancy. However, the beast's bite tore both layers of the bottom apart. Fortunately, it did not rip the bottom off completely, otherwise their repair work would have become extremely difficult, or even impossible.

In the dim night, apart from the occasional blinding flashes of welding light coming from the bottom of the ship, there was no other movement.

After working for several hours, everyone felt exhausted, so Lu Yuan started a barbecue on the shore.

Lu Yuan used an oil brush to continuously brush oil onto the beef and lamb skewers. The oil dripping from the meat onto the charcoal instantly produced a thick cloud of smoke, and in an instant, the aroma filled the air. Everyone lost their focus on their work and gathered around to warm themselves while waiting for their skewers to be grilled.

Before long, Lu Yuan looked at the glistening meat skewers, put them to his mouth and tasted them. The spicy aroma was immediately overwhelming, and the oil burst in his mouth, making him feel indescribably comfortable all over.

"Let's get started!" Lu Yuan said softly, then distributed the meat skewers to everyone.

Everyone was getting impatient, so they took the meat skewers that Lu Yuan handed them and ate them. They immediately felt a warm sensation all over their bodies.

With nothing else to do, they ate barbecue and chatted on this cold winter night, dreaming about their future life after leaving this combined island and moving to Taipingzhou.

Han Wen still misses her son. After all, she has lost contact with him for about a year. It would be a lie to say she doesn't miss him. She thinks about her son every moment, but she never expected that this separation would last so long.

Lu Yuan felt somewhat indebted, since Han Wen and the others had originally planned to leave the island, but due to various reasons, the situation on the island became unfavorable, so they were forced to stay.

Although life here is quite good, and Lu Yuan has given them everything they wanted, with no shortage of food or clothing, what they miss most is being able to go back as soon as possible.
