Lu Yuan nodded, then threw the inspector aside. The inspector's eyes flashed with a fierce light as he gripped his collar and wiped the blood from his face.
"You bastard, don't fall into my hands again, or you'll regret it!"
Then, as the other party was about to leave, the gate of the underground fortress suddenly opened, and a group of heavily armed men surrounded a middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was dressed in a suit and wore gold-rimmed glasses, looking like he lived a life of luxury.
He frowned as he looked at the riot at the entrance: "Alright, suspend the evacuation here for now. Recruit one million laborers! Enter the fourth phase of work. No screening required, no food or accommodation provided. Figure it out yourselves!"
After the other party finished speaking, everyone's eyes widened, and the other party returned to the underground fortress.
Although the voice was not loud, everyone around heard it clearly, and chaos immediately broke out as they rushed in, preparing to go inside.
The inspectors were also pushed back in the chaos, and in the end, no one knows who secretly retaliated and killed them.
The chaos continued, but no one at the scene was maintaining order.
Lu Yuan asked Han Wencai and learned that each of their entrances had now reopened, and this location would only be opened in three days. All the laborers who entered this time were directly connected to the fourth phase of the project.
"We have to wait another three days. Hopefully, these people aren't just standing us up!"
Lu Yuan sat around the campfire with his family, gently poking at the wood inside with a branch.
"Sigh, it's good that there's hope. These bastards, they won't give up their benefits unless we push them. I didn't expect that one million laborers could solve the problem for some people. But after the fourth phase of the project is completed, will they discard them after they've served their purpose?"
Xiwen gently lit a cigarette beside him: "Let's get through this first. As for whether they'll use us and then discard us, that's a matter for later. Such a big project can't be completed in less than a year or two!"
Lu Yuan nodded. Right now, all they had to do was get into the underground fortress and escape the blizzard.
The weather seems to be getting colder and colder. The moon has long since disappeared from the sky, and the clouds have become very thick, drifting in from who-knows-where, making it hard to breathe.
Looking at the gloomy sky and the strong wind, Lu Yuan suddenly felt an ominous premonition rising in his heart.
"Is this really going to be a blizzard? If it is, we're doomed! I hope they open the cave entrance soon so we can get in!"
Soon, three days later, the entrance to the cave that everyone had been waiting for finally opened, revealing a wide tunnel in front of them.
Everyone crowded inside, with Lu Yuan and Xi Wen standing on the perimeter, surrounding the women, the elderly, and the children.
Everyone was desperately pushing and shoving their way inside. They all wanted to get into the underground fortress, even if they didn't get into the third phase of the project, as long as they could get in and save their lives.
Soon everyone passed through the underground passage and arrived at a terrifyingly large underground warehouse.
There are hundreds of elevators in front, each capable of carrying more than a hundred people.
Several armed guards stood in front of the elevator, their eyes fixed on the people around them. If they spotted anyone acting suspiciously, they would open fire without even asking questions.
No one wanted to die, so they lined up very quietly, with Lu Yuan and his family using the service together.
Soon, the queue gradually dispersed. The elevators were very fast, and in a short time, hundreds of elevators transported about 100,000 people.
Finally, the people in front of them left, and Lu Yuan and his family entered the elevator. Inside, there was a "beep" sound, and several red lights lit up. The people outside who hadn't entered were immediately pushed back by guards with guns at them.
Lu Yuan counted the people in the elevator and found they were all his family and friends. He nodded with relief, feeling much more at ease.
The guard gently pressed the close button, and the elevator doors closed and began to slowly slide down. The speed at which it slid down was so fast that Lu Yuan felt the scenery in front of him was constantly disappearing. Although it was pitch black all around, with only a few red lights flashing, the red lights were moving so fast that they almost formed a line in front of him.
Lu Yuan felt like he couldn't breathe properly because the underground was filled with all sorts of toxic gases. The airtightness of the place wasn't very high, and there were also strong gases like methane mixed in with the coal.
I don't know how much time passed, but suddenly my feet stopped abruptly, and the lights above my head came on.
"We've arrived. Go outside and wait for further instructions!"
So the family members quickly left the elevator and went to a place outside. There were hundreds of tables in front of them, and at each table, someone was registering. Next to each person was a box containing their ID cards.
Lu Yuan was the first to walk over. The man sitting at the table adjusted his glasses, looked up at Lu Yuan, and said, "Fill out this form!"
Lu Yuan quickly picked up a pen and began filling in his personal information. The personal information was very simple, consisting of only his name, age, weight, height, and his previous ID number.
After the form was filled out, the other party drew a line on it and then let the next person fill it out, and then handed Lu Yuan an ID card.
"Here's your employee badge. Go to the back to pick up your uniform and then have your blood drawn!"
