"Hey, you know what, there's some good stuff here."
Lu Yuan didn't say anything. He watched as the other person slid down from the garbage heap after finishing his work, with a gash on his butt from something. The other person cursed and pulled out the thing that had slid down his clothes, threw it on the ground, and kicked it a few times.
"Here are your cards."
Lu Yuan handed the cards in his hand to the other person, who glanced at them and then looked at Lu Yuan again.
"Your name is Lu Yuan?"
Lu Yuan nodded. The man immediately remembered that the nameplate on the backpack he had just flipped open was indeed Lu Yuan's. And coincidentally, the owner of that backpack was standing right in front of him. They had all witnessed the whole scene.
A hint of embarrassment flashed across the other person's face, but they didn't seem to care much. They casually took out their cards and pointed to a pile of things that had been gathered together in the distance.
"See that? That pile of stuff is all yours."
Lu Yuan nodded, and then led everyone to move it. When they got there, they found that the pile of things was full of garbage. The rags on some dilapidated shacks were covered with grease and all kinds of dirt. They were heavy in their hands and smelled of urine.
Inside were several tents made of tattered cloth, which looked extremely dirty and full of holes, making them practically unusable.
As for the pile of food gathered next to him, it was all stuff that had been expired for who knows how long, emitting a strong stench, with a few maggots rolling off it, making Lu Yuan feel nauseous just looking at it.
In the end, Lu Yuan decided to give up these items and exchange them with the other party.
So he went back to the garbage dump and shouted at the other person.
"Brother, give us a different pile, that's a pile of garbage. You can't treat people like this."
"Don't want it? Then don't want it."
Lu Yuan frowned. He had an urge to hit someone, but who knew which cameras were broken and which were working here? It was possible that all of them were broken, or it was possible that they were all real, but they didn't care about their own people and only used them to monitor outsiders like them.
"Brother, you're going a bit too far. You just rummaged through my bag and found so much stuff. You should at least give us some of the better stuff. I don't ask for anything fancy, but at least don't leave it like that garbage dump over there."
A hint of embarrassment flashed across the man's face. He had just thought it was just a coincidence of names, but he hadn't expected the real person to actually be standing in front of him.
What do you want?
"A tent, some daily necessities like oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar, and bedding. I don't require them to be new, but they shouldn't be the kind that I can wash and use."
After a moment of silence, the other party finally nodded: "Okay, I'll find you a bunch, but you'll owe me a favor."
After speaking, the other person stared intently at Lu Yuan with a cunning look in their eyes.
"No problem, it's just a favor, I can afford to owe it."
"Haha, you've lost everything now. It's not so easy to repay my favor. Think it over before you speak. Go on, that pile over there is yours now. Hurry up and move it."
After expressing his gratitude, Lu Yuan led his men over. Compared to the previous pile, this was much better. Although the tents were somewhat worn and some were even missing parts, at least they weren't so dirty.
Moreover, although the bed sheets and blankets inside were mostly patched up, at least they didn't have such a strong odor. The food on the ground was all made from specially processed fish or meat into protein blocks. Although the taste wasn't very good, at least it ensured that he wouldn't go hungry. Lu Yuan used to eat this kind of thing often when he was in District 5.
Then Lu Yuan and the others started moving things. There was a huge pile of things, like a small mountain. It took the five of them several trips to move them all. Xiao Shan and the others found a relatively good spot in an excavated underground open space and started setting up camp.
Lu Yuan carried over a pile of cooking utensils, one of which was broken. Lu Yuan tossed it aside. The other groups nearby had also started cooking.
Soon, various smells of food began to waft through the camp. Some of these smells were incredibly foul, while others had a slight industrial odor. Lu Yuan planned to cook some protein cubes tonight to fill his stomach. He didn't feel comfortable eating other food, so he didn't plan to share it with anyone else.
The newcomers were drooling when they saw the egg whites cooking in the pot. They were swallowing hard and holding bowls, chopsticks, knives, forks and other odds and ends, ready to eat.
The fire quickly went out, the pot lid was lifted, and a strong smell of chemical industrial products wafted out. Jiao Chuang and the others quickly surrounded them, but they didn't dare to make a move. They waited for Lu Yuan to make the first move.
Lu Yuan glanced at Xiao Shan, then at his parents, noticing the solemn expressions on each of their faces.
Xiao Shan gently tugged at Lu Yuan's arm and whispered in his ear, "I don't have an appetite, I don't really want to eat!"
Lu Yuan glanced at them, then looked at his parents, his grandparents, and Xiao Shan's parents. Everyone's eyes seemed to be exactly the same as Xiao Shan's—no one had any appetite.
"Alright, then you can eat. Whoever wants to eat can eat. If it's not enough, there's more here, we'll continue stewing."
This time, Lu Yuan received a total of over 200 jin of food, but he picked out about 100 jin of inedible food, while the remaining 100 jin were protein blocks.
