Chapter 438 The Living and the Dead

Upon hearing this news, Lu Yuan was instantly wide awake.

"Damn it, what I feared most has come to pass! Where is he?"

Lu Yuan asked anxiously.

"He was just outside, rescued, but he might not make it!"

"Who are they?" Lu Yuan asked as he put on his clothes.

"There were people from our group and people from Group 3, a total of seven people, exactly one small team, and they all fell in!"

Lu Yuan was already dressed, his face carrying a hint of coldness.

"Damn it! Just what I feared has happened! Let's go take a look!"

So the two of them quickly ran towards the scene of the incident.

The temporary encampment was only a few hundred meters away from the area that needed repair, but Lu Yuan felt like he had walked for a long time.

"It's right ahead!"

Xiao Shan wiped the snow off her goggles and pointed ahead, saying...

The scene was already crowded with people, and when they saw Lu Yuan arrive, a passage immediately opened up in the crowd.

Zhou Tong was leading a group of people in organizing the rescue operation. A group of people lowered a long rope to the bottom of the pit, and several people were slowly climbing down the rope.

However, because the snow is not particularly firm, sometimes when rivets are fixed to the ground, the entire snowpack collapses.

With the snow falling particularly heavily, the people who fell into the pit were already buried underneath.

"Where is he? Have you found him?" Zhou Tong screamed desperately as he lay on the ground.

The people around him held the ropes tightly to prevent Zhou Tong from falling as well.

Han Wen and a few others were checking the thickness and hardness of the snow around them. They were holding small red flags and sticking them in whenever they encountered a thin or not very firm snow layer.

"I'll do it!"

Lu Yuan walked up to Zhou Tong and gently patted him on the shoulder.

The other person turned around and saw that it was Lu Yuan, and immediately breathed a sigh of relief.

"Alright! Go ahead! Be careful!"

After saying that, Zhou Tong stood up and stopped insisting, because he didn't know why he trusted Lu Yuan so much. He always felt that Lu Yuan could handle anything. It was like that when they were on the island, and it was like that now.

Everyone watched as Lu Yuan slowly fastened the buckle around his waist to the rope, and then began to move forward little by little, their hands unconsciously increasing the force of their grip.

Just as Lu Yuan was about to leave, a woman standing in front of him pulled him back, crying.

"Lu Yuan, you must save my son! I beg you!"

After saying that, the other person actually knelt down on the ground. Lu Yuan took a look and recognized her as Liu Dafa's second aunt.

So he gently helped the other person up, then patted the snow off his clothes and said, "Don't worry, I won't abandon any of our team members!"

"But... what about our team?" A hint of despair flashed across Auntie's face.

"Hehe! Isn't your team our team? Don't worry!"

After saying that, Lu Yuan nodded directly to Liu Dafa behind the other party, who quickly pulled his second aunt over.

Moving slowly along the rope, Lu Yuan felt his legs sinking deep into the snow with each step. Fortunately, his clothes were very thick, and the half-meter-deep snow almost reached his thighs.

After walking a few steps, Lu Yuan felt extremely exhausted. However, if he stopped, he might not be able to walk any further because the ice and snow at the bottom were slowly melting and would quickly freeze when they met the ice below. If he didn't hurry, his shoes and feet might freeze to the bottom.

Gritting his teeth, Lu Yuan walked forward again. The wind and snow grew stronger, hitting Lu Yuan's face and stinging him. "Clang, clang, clang" was the sound of snowflakes hitting the top of his goggles.

"Damn! This is so hard to walk! If only we had a sled..."

Lu Yuan slapped his forehead: "Damn it, how could I forget about that! Sleds are such an energy-saving tool! And they can also increase our speed! I was careless!"

Thinking of this, Lu Yuan quickly reached into the snowdrift and, with a thought, pulled out two planks of wood from the snow.

Next, Lu Yuan lay down on the snow, pulled both feet out, untied his shoelaces and tied them to the wooden board. He tested it briefly, and the board didn't wobble at all; it was very sturdy.

"It's done!"

Overjoyed, Lu Yuan waved to the astonished people behind him, then took out two sticks to use as support poles for balance.

"Phew! My first time skiing, and I never imagined it would be in a post-apocalyptic world! Unbelievable! I wonder if this thing will even work!"

Taking a deep breath, Lu Yuan slowly stood up, instantly becoming much taller than before, standing firmly on the snow.

Then, with a slight exertion of force, his entire body began to slide forward uncontrollably. Lu Yuan's body swayed constantly as he tried to steady himself, but in addition to his rusty skiing skills, the crosswinds blowing from all directions and the snowflakes swirling everywhere made it impossible for him to stand still.

"Damn! It's so hard to skate! It looked so easy on TV!"

Lu Yuan frantically secured himself to the snow, then turned to look at the two marks left by his skis behind him and breathed a sigh of relief.

"They've already covered ten meters in such a short time! It seems much more efficient than just walking!"

Just as Lu Yuan was about to continue gliding forward, he suddenly felt a noise behind him. He turned around and saw several men and women wearing down jackets, each wearing a pair of skis, gliding towards him. Their movements looked very coordinated, and they seemed to be walking on the snow as if it were flat ground. He didn't realize that he had to expend a lot of energy every time he took two steps forward.
