Zhou Tong breathed a sigh of relief and then prepared to find an opportunity to leave.
Shen Hu and the others blocked the roadside, thoroughly searched the security guard and the driver, and finally let them go.
Seeing the squad he sent out return empty-handed, a hint of anger flashed across Shen Hu's face.
"Damn it, we can't even find a single person. What are you all good for?"
The squad leader's face was filled with terror; he didn't dare to look up at Shen Hu.
"Brother Tiger, it's getting late, shouldn't we...shouldn't we head back?"
Shen Hu put his hands on his hips, glanced at the time, and finally nodded.
"Damn it! Didn't get anything done all night, I'll add another half hour tomorrow night!"
After saying that, Shen Hu waved his hand and immediately led his men to leave. However, the squad leader felt that something was wrong, so he quietly came to the back of the group and found that several people were missing.
"Huh? Where are those people who went to check that pile of stones? Where did they go?"
The team members looked around and realized that four people were missing from their team.
"Yes, where are Li Huan and the others?"
"I didn't see it. It seemed to be with us just a moment ago. How could it disappear in the blink of an eye? Did it go to the roadside to take a dump?"
"These idiots are definitely going to slack off again. They're always at the back of the line, but when something big happens, they run faster than rabbits."
The team leader frowned slightly, but it was already their off-duty time, and everyone wanted to go home and rest. Since there was no business to do, they had no choice but to leave now.
The squad leader clearly remembered Zhou Tong's eyes and his physique; he was an extremely robust man.
So he secretly went to Shen Hu's side and told him what had just happened. After listening, Shen Hu's eyebrows immediately stood up slightly.
"Brother Tiger, shall we go look again? They must be nearby."
Shen Hu simply waved his hand.
"Don't go. It's getting late. Go back and rest. If we don't finish our work tomorrow, none of us will be able to escape."
As he spoke, he glanced in the direction of the roadside, and at that moment, in the darkness, Lu Yuan and several men were slowly making their way towards another road.
"You didn't kill these people, did you?"
Zhou Tong chuckled: "What a joke. If I were to kill someone here, I might be expelled. I haven't had enough of living yet."
Lu Yuan breathed a sigh of relief: "That's good. Let's get out of here quickly. This is not a place to stay for long. After they all disperse, let's hide in the border area."
Soon everyone arrived at another road and began to wait. The crowd that had gathered in front of the factory gate slowly dispersed, and the road returned to its previous state.
When the people waiting to get off work in the factory saw Shen Hu leaving with his men, they all mustered up their courage and came out of the factory.
The crowd dispersed, and the road returned to calm.
Lu Yuan led his men to the border of District Nine, an undeveloped area with some unbuilt factories, but guarded by a large number of robots.
Everyone was exhausted after a long day. When they arrived at their destination, they unpacked their gear, laid out their cotton-padded clothes on the ground as bedding, and began to rest.
To ensure safety, Lu Yuan specially formed a night patrol team, with three people patrolling the area in groups. If anything happened, they would immediately notify everyone to evacuate.
Fortunately, nothing happened that night, and everyone managed to get through until dawn.
With a sharp chime, a new sun rose from the earth and the city.
The light slowly shone throughout the entire factory area, and people in the nearby factories came out of their homes to begin a new day.
They all wore blank expressions, their eyes fixed straight ahead, and they walked quickly toward the factory area.
"Won't we end up like this in the future?"
Xiao Shan looked at these people with some worry.
"No! Don't worry! This isn't our destination! Have you forgotten our new life? Our new life will begin there!"
After saying that, Lu Yuan pointed to the tall buildings in the distance.
Everyone suddenly felt a sense of anticipation, and their eyes filled with hope.
They led everyone to the agency that Wang Mingming had pointed out. The agency was open very late, and there were only two people inside, a man and a woman. The woman was in charge of managing the documents, while the man was busy moving things around.
Lu Yuan led everyone to the door and knocked.
The man put down what he was holding, turned his head to look at the people outside, a hint of surprise in his eyes, but he didn't show any emotion. He asked in a calm tone.
"New here? Looking to rent a place?"
Lu Yuan nodded: "That's right! We're planning to rent a house! Do you have any houses for rent here?"
Seeing that Lu Yuan was about to bring people in, the other party quickly blocked the doorway.
"This place is too small. Two people can come in, and the rest of you can wait outside."
After exchanging glances, Lu Yuan and the others decided to go inside with Zhou Tong and the other two.
Once inside, the other party didn't have the enthusiastic service attitude one would expect from a real estate agency during the apocalypse; instead, they had an impatient expression on their face.
"Which factory are you from? Show me your work ID."
Lu Yuan and Zhou Tong exchanged a glance and said helplessly, "We just arrived here last night and haven't found any jobs yet. We'd like to find a place to stay temporarily. Can you help us find a place?"
