Lu Yuan's premonition was correct. After a series of creaking sounds from above, the steel frame broke apart due to the immense weight.
"Boom boom boom," a continuous sound came from above.
Lu Yuan led the young man and ran quickly down the stairs. When they reached the third floor, a loud noise suddenly came from above, accompanied by a violent shaking. The two lost their balance and fell into the room.
The steel beam overhead fell directly and hit the top of the building where Lu Yuan was.
The immense weight, combined with the acceleration over a long distance, gave this steel beam tremendous destructive power, making it like a giant sword that pierced through the entire staircase.
Lu Yuan felt that the air around him was filled with huge clouds of dust, and he tried his best to find some sturdy objects to block the dust that was coming towards him.
Various debris was constantly being blown around by the gale. Lu Yuan lowered his head and used his arm to cover his face, feeling a sharp pain in his arm.
Finally, the destructive force within the steel beams subsided under the building's resistance. After waiting for a while, Lu Yuan finally stood up and shone his flashlight into the room in the distance.
A steel beam about 100 meters long, like a giant sword, pierced down from the rooftop, less than 30 meters from where Lu Yuan and the other man were. If it had been any closer, Lu Yuan and the young man would probably have been killed.
The building was pierced through by the steel beam as if it were a block of tofu. Looking at the scene before him, Lu Yuan felt extremely panicked.
After calming himself down, he regained his composure. Meanwhile, the other young man had lost his glasses somewhere while running. He was groping around for them, not knowing what had happened, only feeling ringing in his ears and palpitations.
Lu Yuan shone his flashlight around to make sure there were no problems, then approached the young man.
"Brother Lu, what happened?"
The young man still didn't know what had happened. He only felt ringing in his ears and panic. He squatted on the ground, trembling all over, like a frightened little rabbit.
Lu Yuan walked over and gently patted the other person on the shoulder. This gesture had left a very heavy impression on Lu Yuan.
"The upper steel frame area has collapsed. We don't know if any other steel frames will fall. We need to check it as soon as possible!"
After saying that, Lu Yuan got up and left the room, while the young man finally stood up after a long time. He took a flashlight and searched around the room for his glasses.
After finding the glasses, he quickly followed Lu Yuan to the top of the building. Instead of going out directly, Lu Yuan looked up through the crack in the exit.
The steel beams didn't fall on their side; it seemed that the area with the spiderweb-like steel frame was now missing many of the beams.
The steel beam that runs through the building still stands there, with about fifty meters of it protruding from the top.
Lu Yuan glanced at the area at the joint of the steel beam that appeared to be corroded, and was immediately alarmed. He quickly waved to the young man.
"What about the drone? Is the drone still around?"
The young man wiped his glasses and looked around. He took out the drone remote control from his pocket, held it in front of his face, examined it carefully, fiddled with it for a while, and then shook his head bitterly.
"The drone has flown away; it's probably been destroyed!"
Lu Yuan sighed, then turned and asked, "I'll take you back now and get another drone right away!"
"Oh, okay, okay!"
The young man had long wanted to leave this awful place, and when he heard Lu Yuan say that he could go back, he felt a sense of relief. However, he knew that he would have to come back eventually, but at least he would be safe for a little while.
Then Lu Yuan sent the other person back to Qiao Ke's office, while he himself took a flashlight and looked around at the steel frame area above.
A dull, teeth-grinding sound continued to emanate from above the steel frame area.
The sound is like someone scratching glass with their fingers; it's the sound produced by the friction between metals.
Lu Yuan walked up to the huge steel beam and carefully examined the crack in it. Just then, a termite the size of a peanut slid down from the beam. Lu Yuan quickly took out his flashlight and aimed it at the termite.
Judging from the size of the termite, this is just an ordinary worker termite, neither a soldier termite nor a male termite.
Then, Lu Yuan continued to search the entire steel beam with his flashlight. Soon, he discovered that there was not just one termite, but a large swarm of termites constantly gnawing at the steel beam.
Lu Yuan was startled. He shone his flashlight upwards again, and at that moment the steel beam above tilted once more. Lu Yuan's heart tightened, and he quickly moved to a safer spot.
Lu Yuan kept pointing the flashlight beam at the steel beam above. Because the distance was too far, he could only try his best to adjust the beam to a focused mode to observe it.
After some time, the steel beams above began to tilt again, and the large and small steel beams could no longer support them, so they finally fell down again.
Boom boom boom.
A series of steel beams tilted and fell again, like giant swords piercing the urban area. Lu Yuan could clearly hear the violent sound of the steel beams cutting through the air.
