The old man standing to the side didn't react much. He seemed to already know Lu Yuan's identity. He walked briskly over with his cane, then mumbled a series of words to Lu Yuan before giving a slight bow.
“This old man is the high priest. His status in this tribe is even higher than that of the chief. He just said, ‘Welcome back, child.’ He asked if you have decided to stay here.”
Lu Yuan gently shook his head: "Tell him I have some questions I want to ask him, and I'll leave them something too!"
Fang Yuan bowed slightly to the old priest and then began to translate Lu Yuan's words to him. After hearing Fang Yuan's words, the old priest's face clearly showed a puzzled expression, mixed with disappointment.
"The old priest felt very sorry that you couldn't stay in the tribe. He thought you were a warrior and wanted to take you in!"
Upon hearing Fang Yuan's translation, Lu Yuan couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Haha, it seems the old priest still thinks we're homeless. Tell him we have a place to stay, but we're looking for a more suitable place to live. Ask him if he can help us find such a place, or just tell us the location. We can give him a generous reward!"
Fang Yuan nodded and translated Lu Yuan's words to the old priest.
After listening to Fang Yuan's words, the old priest remained silent for a while, then turned to the chief beside him and spoke for a few minutes. After the two talked in hushed tones for a few minutes, the old priest finally spoke.
"The old priest said that they knew of a relatively suitable place to live, but it was a small place, a place they had lived in before! However, the situation outside is not very good right now, and he said he wanted us to come with them so that they could guarantee our safety and prevent us from being attacked by disasters!"
After saying that, Fang Yuan turned to Lu Yuan and whispered, "Mr. Lu, I think these tribes must know some secrets, otherwise they wouldn't have said such things. After all, the fact that they have survived until now when this apocalypse is coming means that they must have some way to predict disasters!"
Lu Yuan nodded slightly, then whispered to Fang Yuan, "If we directly ask them about their secrets, won't it cause unnecessary trouble? After all, these are other people's secrets, so wouldn't it be inconvenient to ask directly?"
Fang Yuan remained silent for a while, then looked at Lu Yuan and said, "Why don't we give it a try first?"
"Okay, you can ask tentatively first, just to avoid any misunderstandings!"
So, Fang Yuan put on a smiling face and spoke softly to the old priest.
After hearing this, the old priest's expression changed visibly, while the chieftain beside him was even more displeased, his face long and his previous smile gone.
Seeing their expressions, Lu Yuan felt a pang of anxiety.
Although these primitive people did not have weapons or ammunition, their bows and arrows were very accurate, and they seemed to be coated with poison.
If he were to actually fight them, Lu Yuan was confident he could easily be killed, but his plan to find a habitat on his trip to the Americas might fall through.
Then the old priest and the chieftain turned and left, seemingly discussing something.
After a while, the chief walked over with an unfriendly expression and looked at the three of them coldly.
What did you just ask?
Fang Yuan looked completely innocent: "I just wanted to know how you've survived until now, and whether it's really safe to follow you. That's all I asked!"
Lu Yuan frowned. He felt that Fang Yuan's words didn't seem to have much ambiguity, but seeing their reaction, they seemed to really care about others asking about their secrets.
After pondering for a moment, Lu Yuan said to Fang Yuan, "Ask the chief. If they're unwilling to talk, then forget it and let's leave now!"
Fang Yuan nodded gently and opened her mouth to speak when she saw a road suddenly part in the distance of the crowd.
Then, the old priest walked up to them, carrying a large stone slab in his hands.
This stone slab is different from the stone slabs Lu Yuan has seen before. The stone slabs he saw before were all grayish-black, while the stone slab in the other party's hand now looks more like a huge tortoise shell.
The heavy tortoise shell made the old priest walk very slowly, and no one around him offered to help.
"What's that thing he's holding? It looks like a tortoise shell!"
Fang Yuan thought for a moment and said, "I think the thing he's holding is a tortoise shell used for divination. It's said that the ancient Native Americans were very good at divination. Although they were not quite as good as the Maya, there were still some very capable old priests among them who could predict the future!"
Upon hearing Fang Yuan's words, an idea suddenly popped into Lu Yuan's mind.
"You mean the priest was also a prophet, capable of divination? Does that mean he avoided all those previous disasters through divination?"
Fang Yuan nodded gently: "That's right, I think that's how it is."
At this moment, the old priest coughed softly, and Lu Yuan immediately turned his head and stopped talking.
The old priest stared intently at Lu Yuan, then gently patted the enormous tortoise shell in his hand.
Listening to his words, Fang Yuan began to translate slowly.
"The old priest just said that the reason they were able to avoid those disasters was because he could foresee the future, and that an even greater crisis is coming, a crisis that concerns the survival of all living things on Earth!"
