Chapter 779 Jungle

Upon seeing the scene in the distance, a hint of joy appeared on the faces of the two, for they saw vast stretches of primeval forest, though the density of this primeval forest was incomparable to that before the apocalypse.

Although the trees in this primeval forest are thick, their density is very low, and they are sparse. Occasionally, a huge ancient tree will appear every few hundred meters.

Moreover, there is a stream about two kilometers away from this primeval forest. The stream is not very wide, only about half a meter wide, but the water is flowing gently, and it seems to have flowed from a very far place.

"Finally, we get to see a primeval forest! This is wonderful!"

"Yes, you can finally go back and spend some quality time with your family!"

Lu Yuan and Zhou Tong were both very excited. Lu Yuan was happy because he had discovered a primeval forest where he could set up camp and return to the dimensional space, while Zhou Tong was excited because he was about to carry out the next mission.

Fang Yuan took out the camera and kept adjusting the focus on the scene in front of her, trying to capture it.

Lu Yuan didn't plan to go there first. He felt that he should first observe the surrounding terrain and see if there were any other situations. After all, the young man had told them that there might be monsters here, so safety matters had to be taken care of first.

After looking around the forest for a long time with binoculars but finding nothing, Lu Yuan and Zhou Tong exchanged glances and decided to set off.

Just as he was about to get up, Fang Yuan suddenly whispered, "Wait a minute, look, there seems to be something going on in the southwest!"

Upon hearing what the other person said, Lu Yuan and Zhou Tong quickly looked in the southwest direction. As their gaze continued forward, they discovered some strange sights on a barren beach in the distance.

On the distant barren beach, dozens of people were jumping around a bonfire, while one person lay motionless on the ground.

Not long after, after the people next to him finished singing and dancing, they carried the person and threw him into the fire pit. As the flames burst into flames, the person in the fire let out a shrill scream. Seeing this, Lu Yuan felt a chill run down his spine.

"What are they doing? Why are they burning good people?"

Fang Yuan, holding a camera, explained while filming: "In some primitive tribes, there used to be a custom called 'worshipping the heavens'!"

"The custom of offering sacrifices to Heaven? What does that mean?"

"They burned living people alive and used them as offerings to the gods and the heavens to pray for their safety!"

After hearing Fang Yuan's explanation, Lu Yuan and Zhou Tong couldn't help but exchange a glance: "Goodness, could these people be from a primitive tribe? But that young man said there were many of them and a lot of guns and ammunition. Why would they follow such primitive tribal customs?"

Zhou Tong shook his head, somewhat puzzled: "Why don't we hurry over and check the situation, see if we can find anything!"

After thinking for a while, Lu Yuan nodded. Because these people would come here from time to time, they had to ensure that these people posed no threat to them.

So the three of them cautiously headed southwest, but when they were about two hundred meters from the campfire, Lu Yuan lowered his body and stopped behind a large tree.

When Lu Yuan arrived behind the big tree, he couldn't help but look up at the giant tree, which was almost as thick as three people could hug. The outer bark of the tree trunk was completely dry and weathered.

However, the branches and leaves above its canopy are densely packed, but these leaves emit a strong, pungent smell that makes people feel dizzy.

Lu Yuan shook his head, then took out gas masks from his dimensional space and handed them to Zhou Tong and Fang Yuan respectively.

The three quickly put on gas masks, and only then did they feel their breathing become much more stable. Zhou Tong then took out a bag from his backpack to fill with air, scooped it up, filled it with all the air, and sealed it tightly.

"These things might be worth studying if we take them back!"

Lu Yuan nodded, and then he saw that the person in the distance had been completely burned to death. After the group of people next to him completed the sacrificial ceremony, they all stood up.

They picked up the weapons scattered around, but most of them were carrying spears and bows and arrows, and only two or three people had pistols.

The fire in the bonfire was still burning, and the men with pistols nearby muttered something to each other before pointing in the direction of the battle.

Then the group of people next to him ran into the depths of the forest. When Lu Yuan saw them like this, he couldn't help but take out his night vision binoculars and look in their direction.

"What are these people up to? Judging by their attire, they seem to be going hunting!"

Fang Yuan squatted to the side, pondering for a long time before suddenly saying, "I remember now, they probably didn't use living people to worship gods and deities, but rather to worship wild beasts in the forest. They believed that only by killing these people and offering them to the wild beasts in the forest would these beasts unconditionally supply their people!"

Lu Yuan couldn't help but glance at her, only to see a serious expression on Fang Yuan's face: "Did you make these things up or are they real?"

Seeing that Lu Yuan didn't believe her, Fang Yuan was immediately dissatisfied: "You don't believe me? What I said is true. If you don't believe me, you can go back and look up some information about the Maya and other primitive peoples. You'll see that they used this method every time they hunted or performed sacrifices!"
