Chapter 821 Abandoned Airport

So everyone eagerly boarded the plane again and flew towards the place that the other party had indicated was a place that specialized in aircraft maintenance.

It was a very large factory, specifically used for assembling airplanes, with a runway outside.

From a great distance, I could see a long, narrow runway, but there were no planes on it, only the damaged runway surface.

After finding a relatively flat location and the plane came to a stop, everyone eagerly disembarked. Following the previous team division, the team members were divided into four groups, each searching in one of the four directions.

Lu Yuan and Sun Tao were tasked with searching a factory building in the distance that had already collapsed halfway.

The others were responsible for searching other locations, so Lu Yuan and Sun Tao headed in a distant direction. The road was very messy, with pebbles everywhere.

It is evident that the damage here was severe during the earthquake, and the earthquake caused the road surface to collapse, with cracks appearing on the ground from time to time.

These cracks vary in depth and width. Some cracks are several meters wide, requiring two people to take a detour to pass through, while others are only the size of a palm. There are hundreds of such cracks.

The two of them arrived at the collapsed building and shone their flashlights inside.

Suddenly, there seemed to be some movement inside. Upon hearing this, Lu Yuan frowned, while Sun Tao, who was beside him, had already taken out his pistol and was on alert.

"I didn't realize there were people here! We need to be careful from now on!"

Sun Tao nodded. He wasn't too worried about any attacks. After all, as a private investigator, he had experience with such work before, and he was less concerned about this situation than about disasters.

After skillfully surveying the surrounding area with his gun, and confirming the direction of the entrance, Sun Tao pointed to a spot to the side towards Lu Yuan.

"The entrance is often the most dangerous place. Let's go around it from the side. But we can't rule out that the other side has also noticed this. We need to be careful!"

Lu Yuan nodded, not feeling particularly nervous. He had various life-saving skills, giving him ample reaction time to deal with enemy attacks. At worst, he could enter a dimensional space and find a way to come out and catch the enemy off guard; this was his most frequently used method.

Soon the two arrived at the building where the noise had come from. The entrance was a brick wall that had collapsed halfway. Although it had been repaired, the repairs were not very effective.

After gently removing a few bricks, a dimly lit entrance appeared before them. Lu Yuan patted Sun Tao on the shoulder and then took out two night vision goggles from the dimensional space.

"Use this. A flashlight is too conspicuous and will be easily spotted by the enemy. We don't know who these people are right now. If they are indeed survivors and have no ill intentions towards us, then it's fine. But if these people are here to kill us, we have to be careful!"

Sun Tao nodded, then took the night vision goggles from Lu Yuan and put them on his head. After adjusting them slightly, he gave Lu Yuan a thumbs up.

So the two of them quietly slipped into the crack, and through the night vision goggles, Lu Yuan could clearly see the situation inside the building.

This place must have been an aircraft manufacturing plant before, with all sorts of sturdy gantry frames inside. Although some parts have collapsed, the main beams are still intact.

Then Lu Yuan led Sun Tao forward, carefully observing their surroundings with each step to prevent any enemy attacks.

As they approached the location, Sun Tao gently tapped Lu Yuan on the shoulder and whispered, "There's a two-story staircase over there. I suspect there might be someone up there. Shall we go check it out?"

After looking up, Lu Yuan immediately sensed that there must be someone inside.

Although the night vision device showed that the dust on the stairs was the same as elsewhere, and there seemed to be some footprints on it, it was impossible to examine the depth of these footprints in detail to determine when the incident occurred. However, this clearly proved that there were definitely people in this place, and quite a few of them.

Then the two quietly walked up the steps, but after a few steps, Lu Yuan felt that the steel steps seemed to be damaged. With each step, the broken part would make a creaking sound, which could be heard far in the empty workshop.

Just as they had climbed halfway up, Lu Yuan suddenly felt several red lights flash above him; these were thermal images displayed in the night vision goggles.

Seeing that they were human, before Lu Yuan could even speak, the other side seemed to be ready, picking up their rifles and firing fiercely in Lu Yuan's direction.

"run!"

Without thinking, Lu Yuan slammed backward, knocking Sun Tao down the stairs. They then rolled down the stairs and took cover behind a sturdy steel beam.

The enemy's bullets couldn't penetrate the steel beam, so after a few gunshots, a series of hurried and chaotic footsteps came from above, seemingly running in another direction.

Lu Yuan glanced down at Sun Tao and noticed that the other man's night vision goggles were missing at some point, so he asked softly, "How are you?"
