Zhou Chen sat in the passenger seat, made a face at his dad, and then continued to play with the toys in his hands.
After winding through the tent area, we finally arrived at a gray tent.
Outside the tent, a number of people were preparing food.
It was already around nine o'clock in the evening. Some people started working after finishing their shift, while others continued working after taking over the night shift.
Therefore, it's not unusual to see people cooking anytime, anywhere in the entire tent area.
Zhou Tong instructed Zhou Chen to get out of the car, while he opened the trunk and took out some canned smoked meat, as well as beef and mutton, and went to the tent.
When he got close, he couldn't help but reach out and straighten his short hair, then straighten his clothes before stepping into the tent.
A rich aroma of food wafted from inside the tent. The stove outside had been extinguished, but the fragrance still lingered, indicating that the family had just prepared a meal.
At that moment, the tent flap opened, and a girl of about eighteen or nineteen years old walked out.
When the other person saw the two people, one big and one small, standing at the door, they were taken aback for a moment, and then a knowing smile appeared on their face.
"Minister Zhou is here. You're here to see Sister Xiaoqian, right?"
Zhou Tong gave a hesitant laugh, then handed another package to the other person: "Well, Xiao Chen insisted on coming, so I couldn't refuse and brought her over to take a look. Here's some food, take it."
The girl smiled and accepted the bag handed to her without any hesitation. Then she whispered to Zhou Tong, "Minister Zhou, I'm working the night shift tonight, so I'll leave the tent to you. I won't get off work until 9:30 tomorrow morning."
After saying that, she smiled and left with her things.
Zhou Tong blushed deeply and tried to explain, but the other party had no intention of listening and turned to leave.
Zhou Tong smiled helplessly, then thought to himself: I really didn't have such thoughts. Why do you all think of me as that kind of person? I am a gentleman!
After saying that, he walked to the tent and gently lifted the curtain.
At this moment, the woman inside seemed to already know that Zhou Tong had arrived. Without even looking up, she said to the outside, "Brother Zhou, come in! I just finished preparing the food! Xiao Chen, Auntie even made some chicken strips that you like. Come and try them and see if you like them!"
After saying that, the woman smiled and picked up a small plate, then came to Zhou Chen.
Zhou Chen smiled broadly, then looked up at his father, before smiling at the woman and saying, "Hello, Aunt Xiaoqian!"
The woman nodded with a big smile, then patted Zhou Chen's head: "Little Chen is such a good boy, come inside and sit down!"
Zhou Chen skipped and hopped as he took the chicken strips and went into the room.
Although the room was not as big as his own place, it was very tidy. There were two simple cots on the left and right sides, which were the most common household items in the dimensional space.
The blankets on the bed were neatly folded. One of the blankets, a girlish pink one, was clearly where the girl who had just gone to work the night shift had been, while the other blanket was a deep purple, which matched the elegant woman in front of her perfectly.
The woman was in her early thirties. Having been married once before, she understood men's minds very well. She gently twirled a strand of hair on her face with her little finger, then gave Zhou Tong a coquettish glare: "What are you standing there for? Do you want me to help you in?"
When Zhou Tong entered the room and saw the woman, he was like a puppet, completely unsure of where to put his hands.
This woman looks so much like his ex-wife, but compared to his previous wife, she seems to have gained a bit more femininity and lost some of her intellectual charm, making it impossible for a tough guy like Zhou Tong to handle her.
Zhou Tong swallowed hard, then put the things in his hand aside in the room.
"Keep this little gift for now. It's still quite cold, so it should last for a while!"
The woman didn't seem to care about what Zhou Tong had brought. She simply nodded slightly and pulled over a chair: "Sit down, I'll get you some water!"
Zhou Tong nodded. He wanted to refuse but couldn't bring himself to say it. In front of this woman, he felt as awkward as a naive young boy, unsure of what to do with his hands. Meanwhile, his daughter Zhou Chen kept making faces at him, making him feel even more uncomfortable.
After thinking for a while, Zhou Tong finally asked, "Um, is there anything you need?"
As the woman served rice, she glanced at the other person and said, "I don't lack anything! Life is pretty good!"
Zhou Tong nodded slightly, then remained embarrassed.
The woman brought the bowl of soup over and placed it in front of Zhou Tong.
"Try it and see how my cooking is. Is it the kind of soup you like?"
Zhou Tong nodded quickly and shoveled the rice into his mouth.
However, the woman had just taken the porridge off the stove, and the soup was still warm. So when Zhou Tong took the first bite, before she could stop him, he was scalded and screamed in pain, covering his mouth.
Seeing Zhou Tong's embarrassed expression, the woman shook her head helplessly: "What's the rush? Let me see your mouth!"
After saying that, the woman put the rice bowl aside and then carefully looked at Zhou Tong's mouth.
"You're burned like this! Didn't you know you should be careful? Wait here, I'll go get you some ice!"
