Chapter 86 The Bandits Come to the Door

What was bound to happen, happened. The shooting and killing of the bandits in the city had a profound impact on Lu Yuan's psyche.

He couldn't believe that criminals would actually dare to attack police officers with knives in broad daylight; it was utterly lawless.

He quickly arrived at Xiaoshan's house and knocked on their door.

But there was no response from inside the room for a long time. Then Lu Yuan looked around and saw no one. So he called out, "Xiao Shan, it's me! It's Lu Yuan! Open the door!"

As soon as the words were spoken, the door opened immediately. There stood Xiao Shan holding a mop handle, Xiao Shan's father holding a kitchen knife, and Xiao Shan's mother holding an iron rod, all looking at Lu Yuan outside the door as if facing a formidable enemy.

They breathed a sigh of relief when they saw that the person outside the door was Lu Yuan.

"Oh my god! I was so scared! I thought it was another thug! Come inside quickly! We can't stay outside!"

"Lu Yuan, didn't I tell you not to come? Why did you still come? It's so dangerous! Are you alright on the way?"

Xiao Shan pulled Lu Yuan inside, and Xiao Shan's mother immediately closed the door.

"It's too unsafe here. I just came to check on you all, but I didn't expect things to be in such chaos! There were even thugs in the street with knives, ready to kill police officers! This is too much!"

Lu Yuan hadn't recovered from the shock of what had just happened and was finding it hard to accept reality. After all, as a law-abiding citizen, he had only ever seen this kind of situation in foreign films. He never expected that this scene would actually happen, and that the criminals were attacking police officers who were holding guns. It was practically suicide.

"Sigh! I thought it would just be a simple march, but I never expected it to turn out like this. I can't believe it," Xiao Shan said, still a little shaken.

Xiao Shan's father handed Lu Yuan a bottle of water and said, "That's right, we heard more than a dozen gunshots yesterday alone. Our people here say it sounded like the bandits were going to fight the police head-on! But more than ten people died and they didn't manage to seize a single gun!"

Xiaoshan's mother was also somewhat shaken.

"These thugs started smashing and looting shops when they saw no one on the road to shoot. Occasionally, when there were no shops, they would knock on doors one by one. As soon as someone opened the door, a group of people would rush in and rob them. If anyone resisted, they would be beaten up! It was terrifying! I was scared to death when Lu Yuan knocked on the door just now!"

Seeing the family of three, Lu Yuan finally said, "Uncle, Aunt, come back with me! It's too unsafe here; bandits could attack at any time! Come back with me; there are no bandits in our District Three, it's very safe!"

Xiao Shan immediately nodded and said, "Yes, Mom and Dad, don't stick to your outdated ideas. Besides, no one knows we've moved into Lu Yuan's house. Even if they did, so what? I'm going to marry Lu Yuan sooner or later!"

"Sigh! Alright! But how are we going to get here? We haven't brought our things yet!" Lu's mother looked at the furniture all over the house with some reluctance.

"Auntie, don't worry about any of that, we have everything you need! You can just stay here!"

As he spoke, Lu Yuan tried to pull them away.

However, at that moment, the door was suddenly knocked on again, the sound like the footsteps of death pounding on everyone's hearts.

"What...what should we do?" Xiao Shan burrowed into Lu Yuan's arms, somewhat frightened.

Xiao Shan's mother, standing to the side, looked nervously at the gate, her grip on the iron bar tightening even more. Xiao Shan's father shielded everyone behind him, grabbing a kitchen knife and preparing to step forward.

Lu Yuan then grabbed him.

"Uncle, leave it to me!"

"How can that be! I'm fine! Lu Yuan, you stay in the room and protect Xiao Shan, I'll take care of her!" With that, Xiao Shan's father walked toward the door with a righteous air.

Having no other choice, Lu Yuan could only take Xiao Shan's hand and say to the two of them, "Auntie, Xiao Shan, you two go inside first. I'm afraid Uncle can't handle the people outside by himself. I'll go help him!"

Xiao Shan glanced at her father standing in front of the door, then at Lu Yuan, and tears welled up in her eyes.

Xiaoshan's mother covered her mouth, afraid that her crying would attract the attention of people outside.

"Be very careful. If they're just trying to steal, let them in. It's fine! Just give it to them. Whatever you do, don't let them hurt you."

The person has arrived!

Lu Yuan gently patted Xiao Shan's head and smiled, "Okay, don't worry! I'll be careful. You should quickly take Auntie inside and hide!"

As they were talking, the knocking on the door grew louder.

All I could hear was people talking outside the door.

"This family must have good stuff. I often see someone carrying a bag with lots of food. Everyone else is out of food, but they always have some! It must be them!"

"Great! If you really are home, you deserve the most credit this time! Open the door! People inside, open the door! I know you're home! Stop pretending! If you don't open the door, we'll break it down!"

Xiao Shan's father was trembling all over, and the kitchen knife in his hand began to shake uncontrollably.

Lu Yuan took out his crossbow from his pocket, then took out five short bolts from his pocket and pressed them into the firing slot.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Another sound of banging on the door.

Xiao Shan's father was on edge at that moment.

"Damn it! Wang Cheng! We have no grudge against you, why did you bring people to our house! A while ago, your children didn't have enough to eat, and I even gave you some food! How did you become their lackey! Let me tell you, we're out of food too! You'd better take your men and leave right now! Otherwise, I'll call the police!"

Xiao Shan's father's voice trembled slightly, partly from fear, and partly from the fact that his longtime neighbor had actually brought people to his house! This fueled his anger, but also his fear; his daughter and wife were behind him, and he couldn't let them barge in.

However, a cold laugh came from outside the door.

"Wei Jianguo! I don't need to explain the saying 'A common man is innocent, but possessing a treasure is a crime,' do I? Open the door obediently, and we'll only take the grain, not your people! If you don't know what's good for you, don't blame us for being impolite! Also, even if you call the police now, it won't do anything; all the police in the city are stuck on the streets! If you dare to call the police, we'll rush in now and kill your whole family!"

After that, there was another loud banging on the door.

Lu Yuan frowned, aimed his crossbow at the gate, and waited to shoot them all down the moment they broke through the gate!

As for the consequences of killing someone, that's no longer something he needs to consider. However, to ensure he won't be sent to the police station for investigation because of this, Lu Yuan has turned on the recording function on his phone.
