Chapter 999 Ark

Lu Yuan and Xu Changbing noticed something amiss in the distance and immediately raised their hands to stop the people from advancing.

After exchanging a glance, the two spoke to the people behind them.

"There are some strange places ahead, so be careful when you go there later."

Xu Changbing nodded.

“That’s right, we’ve smelled a very strong stench of blood. I reckon there are probably some cannibals ahead, but how did these cannibals get here?”

Filled with doubt, the group slowly approached the location of the other small island.

When they arrived at the small island, they saw that the farmland they had planned to cultivate was now covered in blood and filth, and filled with a disgusting slime.

The land, which should have been pitch black, is now stained red with blood.

Lu Yuan knew that the blood in the bodies of ghouls had basically dried up. There was very little blood in their bodies, except for ghouls that had just mutated a few days ago, whose blood could still flow out. Over time, the blood in the bodies of the other ghouls had basically disappeared due to soaking in water.

The presence of so much blood on the ground in the distance indicates that there must have been signs of human activity nearby, and that the humans were attacked by these cannibals and brought to this place to be killed.

Lu Yuan and all his team members wore expressions of terror. They crouched in place, barely daring to breathe, for fear of attracting an attack from the cannibals in the distance.

Seeing this scene, Xu Changbing felt even more distressed. Holding his gun, he wished he could immediately shoot the cannibals below.

However, the sound of gunfire would immediately attract the attention of the nearby cannibals, so he dared not fire.

Lu Yuan continued to observe his surroundings through his binoculars. Suddenly, he increased the magnification of the binoculars and looked into the distance.

He could see something parked at the foot of the distant mountain, only a corner of it was visible, so he pointed in another direction.

"I'm going over there first. You guys stay where you are and don't move!"

Xu Changbing looked up, wanting to ask a question, but saw that Lu Yuan had already arrived at that place like a cheetah.

Then Lu Yuan picked up the binoculars and looked at the distant location.

When he finally saw what the thing in the distance looked like, he was so shocked that he couldn't speak.

Because what was in the distance was actually an ark, and it looked like an ark built inside a fortress.

He suddenly thought of many people, such as Wang Mingming and Zhou Tong.

Lu Yuan immediately waved to Xu Changbing and the others.

The group quickly and quietly approached Lu Yuan's direction.

Lu Yuan pointed to the foot of the mountain in the distance: "Do you see that ship?"

Xu Changbing took the binoculars and glanced at that spot; his expression instantly changed.

He stammered, "Boss, are you saying that all those dead people were from the fortress? They all came down from the Ark back then?"

Lu Yuan nodded heavily: "That's right, I think so. Let's go take a look first. Everyone be careful, and if anything seems amiss, open fire immediately!"

Everyone was very solemn. After checking their equipment, they followed Lu Yuan toward the road ahead.

Because it was a cloudy day, the road wasn't very clear, so everyone turned on their flashlights to see it better.

However, he dared not shine the flashlight beam indiscriminately, lest it attract an attack from the cannibals.

And so, everyone walked along the path little by little, until they finally made a big detour and arrived at the foot of the opposite mountain.

However, Lu Yuan did not take his men there immediately. He first observed the area to see if there were any cannibals.

Fortunately, there were no cannibals around, and Lu Yuan breathed a sigh of relief. He looked towards the ship again.

The ship was empty; there seemed to be no one there.

Lu Yuan recalled that when he checked the island before, he didn't seem to have found this ark.

It is clear that this ark only arrived recently.

However, such a large ark arrived at this place silently. What were they going to do? Whose ark was it? Lu Yuan's mind began to churn, and familiar names and faces flashed through his mind.

Just then, a muffled sound came from inside the ark.

The dull thud seemed to strike everyone's heart.

Everyone felt a sudden tightness in their chests and turned to look in the direction of the ark.

Lu Yuan adjusted the magnification of the telescope to the optimal level as much as possible, but he still couldn't see clearly what was happening inside.

It was so dark inside that you could hardly see anything at the entrance to the Ark.

Lu Yuan looked dejected. He wanted to investigate what was inside, but the muffled sound he had just heard made him realize that something was definitely wrong.

After pondering for a long time, Lu Yuan decided to first lead his men to clear out the nearby cannibals before slowly approaching, to prevent anyone from attacking from behind.

However, before doing this, he had to make sure his family was prepared in case the cannibals on the island broke out, so they could react immediately.

When Lu Yuan gathered his family and several teammates together, he briefly explained the situation.

After hearing this, the family members all showed expressions of shock, especially Dad and Xiaoshan's dad, who were probably the ones who had the most contact with those people in the fortress.

Hearing that the people inside their fortress might die here, panic appeared on their faces.

"No way, their weapons are so advanced, and there are so many of them, they shouldn't be killed by these cannibals, right?"

Lu's father was clearly having trouble accepting this fact.

In fact, Lu Yuan didn't want to believe this fact either, but he knew that the best place for the cannibals to break out was in places where people gathered.

"Dad, don't forget, the best place for the cannibal virus to break out is in crowded places. Once one person in a crowd is infected with the cannibal virus, the entire population of the area is likely to be in danger!"

When Lu Yuan finished speaking, his family members all showed helpless expressions.

They simply couldn't believe what a catastrophe it would be if the cannibal virus were to break out in such a confined space.

When the Ark was built, the idea was to accommodate as many people as possible, so as to cram more people in. One Ark could hold more than 300,000 people.
