Chapter Ninety: Relief

It's not that Lu Yuan is heartless for not planning to save these people, but rather that he genuinely can't help them. After all, he bought the meat himself, so he has to bear the consequences. He didn't buy the pork, and he didn't even eat a bite of it. Of course, he has no need to help with these matters, since although his golden fruit has miraculous effects, it can only produce two fruits per month after upgrading the land.

Although the people in Zone 3 who were sick hated Lu Yuan for a time, there was nothing they could do. They knew that even if Lu Yuan could take them to the hospital, they might not be able to get an appointment for treatment, not to mention the exorbitant medical fees.

Moreover, the shortage of drugs in hospitals is now very serious. Major hospitals have jointly issued a statement that each hospital can only admit a maximum of one hundred people infected with the rat virus per day.

Three days later, the entire Third District was covered in white mourning clothes. Those who were lucky enough to eat the diseased pork and not die wore white mourning clothes to commemorate their families. Some even set up a mourning hall in front of Lu Yuan's house, which gave Lu's mother a big shock when she returned.

"Damn it! They actually set up a mourning hall in front of my house! Looks like I have to teach them a lesson!"

Looking out the window at the crowd of people, Lu Yuan was instantly filled with rage.

Just as he was about to go out and teach these people a lesson, he suddenly heard a police siren coming from the main road.

Then several police officers got out of the car and frowned when they saw the people in front of Lu Yuan's house.

"What are you doing? Why are you gathered here! Do you want to cause trouble too?" A police officer looked at the people dressed in mourning clothes with a face full of anger and couldn't help but feel displeased.

Recently, the police department in ** has launched a large-scale cleanup campaign to address the chaos of vandalism and looting in the city. They are on high alert wherever people gather, and will not hesitate to shoot anyone who shows signs of violence.

A group of people dressed in mourning clothes pointed angrily in the direction of Lu Yuan's house and said viciously, "It's him! He has a car but refuses to take us to the hospital! We want an explanation from him!"

"That's right! He killed my family! He's the executioner! He just stood by and watched so many of us die!"

"Officer, we request that he be arrested! He's the murderer!"

...

The crowd was filled with righteous indignation, but they failed to notice that several police officers had silently placed their hands on the pistols at their waists.

"Nonsense! We are ordering you to leave immediately! We already know about your situation! The pork seller from that time has been arrested; he is the real culprit! Your presence here is nothing but harming innocent people!"

Lu Yuan heard their conversation from a distance and immediately smiled.

So he quickly went downstairs, opened the door, and went over.

One of the police officers noticed a hint of surprise on Lu Yuan's face.

"You're Factory Director Lu? I didn't know this was your home!"

Lu Yuan smiled and nodded at the other person, then took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and offered them around, saying, "Officer, this really isn't my fault. Many of us tried to dissuade them from buying the pork, but they wouldn't listen, which led to this disaster! I heard the pork seller was arrested?"

"That's right! We've caught him. His actions have seriously threatened the lives of others. We understand that more than seventy people in the new district have died because they bought his pork. He's utterly wicked! Higher-ups have begun investigating him, and he's expected to be executed tomorrow!"

Upon hearing the police's words, the people dressed in mourning clothes immediately turned their anger on the butcher.

"Officer, that damn guy is supposed to be executed tomorrow? Where is he?"

The officer glanced at the crowd and said, "To serve as a warning, we will hold a public trial for him tomorrow at the Central Garden of Zone Two in the new city!"

After saying that, the police officer took a notice from the car and posted it on the wall of Lu Yuan's house.

"The public hearing is scheduled for noon tomorrow! We hope that all those who have been wronged can attend this hearing. Also, Lu Yuan has nothing to do with this incident, and he is a star factory manager in this city. We hope you will stop harassing him! If we receive any more reports of harassment against his family, we will not let anyone get away with it!"

After saying that, the other person nodded to Lu Yuan and then left with his men.

Lu Yuan looked at the group of police officers with gratitude. If it weren't for them, these people's attention wouldn't have been diverted. He was really grateful to them!

People who had been kneeling or sitting on the ground stood up, their eyes no longer filled with anger as they looked at Lu Yuan; some even showed a hint of regret.

"Let's go together tomorrow! We'll beat this bastard to death! We'll avenge our dead family members!"

Someone shouted this, and the anger in the crowd was reignited. Everyone raised their hands and demanded that they go there tomorrow and beat that pork-selling bastard to death.

Finally, the crowd slowly dispersed, and Lu Yuan's heart, which had been in his throat, finally settled down.

Without these police officers, who knows what these rioters might do? They might even attack my home, and my grandparents and parents might be in danger.

With a sigh, Lu Yuan returned to his bedroom, secretly glad that he hadn't saved the person. If he had actually saved them, it wouldn't have been a big deal; he would have just lost a few fruits. But if the medicine wasn't effective enough because there weren't enough fruits, he would probably be accused of murder, and then he really wouldn't be able to explain himself.

Early the next morning, Lu Yuan heard someone shouting slogans at the village entrance, followed by a commotion from the crowd.

Looking out the window, I saw dozens of people dressed in mourning clothes gathered on the main road of Zone 3, heading towards Zone 2.

Lu Yuan quickly put on his clothes and prepared to go take a look.

Following the crowd, Lu Yuan arrived at Zone Two, where the central garden was already packed with people. The air was thick with the smells of sweat, urine, and feces. Lu Yuan covered his mouth and nose with his sleeve.

The situation in District Two was similar to what I had seen in the city. The roads were littered with traces of urine and feces, and the streets were covered in garbage. The people's mental state was also very different from that of the people in District Two. They were all emaciated, and their clothes were tattered.
