Chapter Seventy-Four: Those Damn Scalpers

Lu Yuan made a significant contribution to Liu Tiantian's child's safe passage through the critical period; without him, the child would probably be dead by now.

However, many more people are unable to receive treatment. They are suffering in long queues at hospitals, enduring exorbitant prices for registration tickets from scalpers. Some people certainly cannot afford these tickets, which leads to their conditions worsening and even putting them at risk of death. It can be said that these scalpers bear a great deal of responsibility.

Thinking of this, Lu Yuan was immediately furious and walked over.

The other party was proudly showing off the ill-gotten gains they had made that day on their phones, completely unaware that Lu Yuan was approaching.

Lu Yuan gently cracked his knuckles, watching the several people who were focused on their work.

Suddenly, the other person realized that someone had blended into their crowd and was pointing at them, so they immediately put away their phone.

"Who are you? What do you want?"

Lu Yuan sneered as he looked at the group of people.

"What for? Of course, it's to teach you bastards a lesson!"

After saying that, Lu Yuan kicked the man in the hat away. The man looked at Lu Yuan's kick in surprise as he flew, and then crashed into a flower bed before stopping. He then spat out a mouthful of blood and fell to the ground.

Lu Yuan hadn't expected his kick to be so powerful. Clearly, he hadn't been paying attention to his condition, and this kick, filled with anger, dealt a critical hit.

The other scalpers panicked. One of them immediately pulled out a dagger from his pocket, pointed it at Lu Yuan, and shouted angrily, "You dare to touch us? Do you know who we are? Do you know who protects these hospitals around here?"

However, Lu Yuan didn't waste any words with the other party. He stepped forward, snatched the dagger from the other party's hand, and kicked him hard in the knee. With a crisp "crack" sound, the other party's lower leg bent forward.

The other person fell to the ground in pain and cried out loudly. The others were dumbfounded. In broad daylight, someone was interrupted just like that.

"This is a hospital! How dare you be so insolent? We're calling the police right now! You just wait!"

"Hmph! Fine, call the police then. I'd like to see what you have to say to the police! Is it because I broke his leg that I got the sentence, or because you scalped tickets and caused so many people to miss out on medical treatment that you got the heavier sentence! Go ahead and call if you dare!"

The men exchanged glances, a hint of fear in their eyes. They knew that if they called the police, Lu Yuan would at most pay some money and be done with it, but if they were sentenced to a harsher sentence, they would definitely spend their lives in jail. This was a matter of life and death, and they could have made a considerable profit from it.

Seeing Lu Yuan's formidable fighting prowess, effortlessly disarming the enemy with his bare hands as if drinking water, the group realized their small stature made them no match for him. They immediately abandoned their companions and scattered like birds, not daring to even bother with the two men lying on the ground.

Lu Yuan didn't give chase. He knew that even if he killed all these people, these scalpers would still do what they were doing. They had become a new profession in society.

Unless Lu Yuan beats them all up, but that's obviously impossible, and Lu Yuan has no intention of doing so.

He walked up to the man in the hat and stared at him. The man was in his thirties and had a tattoo on his neck, clearly someone not to be trifled with.

However, a scar at the corner of Lu Yuan's eye added a touch of ruthlessness to his appearance. When the other party saw Lu Yuan approaching, he was so frightened that he took a step back.

"What...what are you going to do! I've already hit you. If you kill me, my friends will definitely call the police!"

Seeing the other party's fear, Lu Yuan sneered.

"If I ever see you selling scalped tickets here again, I'll beat you up every time I see you!"

The other person clutched their chest, their eyes filled with rage, and dragged another person with a broken leg away, not daring to look back as they fled.

After saying that, Lu Yuan left immediately.

The next morning, Liu Tiantian and her family of three brought two bags of rice to Lu Yuan's house to thank him for his kindness the day before.

The young couple came from a relatively wealthy family and worked for a financial company before the apocalypse. They had a very good standard of living. Before getting married, they considered buying a house, but they wanted a big one. So, they decided to buy a plot of land in Zone 3 and build a villa, which would be more comfortable for them to live in.

Looking at the two bags of rice in front of the door, Lu Yuan knew that this was definitely their life-saving food. The couple had originally planned to give Lu Yuan money as a thank you gift, but Lu Yuan refused to accept it, so they had no choice but to bring the rice instead.

Lu Yuan still refused the other party's kindness. Although the amount of grain was not much, only about forty pounds in two bags, the current situation was that there was nowhere to buy more grain, as each person was already being given a daily ration.

"Brother Lu, you saved our baby's life. You absolutely have to take this food. It's just a small token of our appreciation. Otherwise, we'd really feel bad!"

"Yes, you've helped us so much. If we take this rice back with us, the people around here will gossip about us!"

Lu Yuan had no choice but to accept the bag.

"Take this bag, and you can take the other one back. The child is still young, and you've had a tough time too. Live well and take good care of the child!"

After persuading the other party to leave, Lu Yuan opened the bag and discovered that the rice inside was genuine Wuchang rice. He had never been able to buy the real Wuchang rice in the supermarket before, because the yield of this rice was too low. It was only available in Wuchang in Northeast China, and rice from other places was not as delicious as that rice.

The so-called Wuchang rice sold outside is just some private label products, using rice from other regions to impersonate it. Although it looks similar, even indistinguishable from the real thing, Lu Yuan can tell that it is definitely genuine just by holding it up to his nose and asking.

After bringing the rice home, Lu Yuan poured it directly into the jar, intending to pick through it to see if he could find any unhulled rice, because only rice with the husk on can be grown into rice; rice that has been hulled will rot directly in the soil.

There was a bucket on one side and a jar of rice on the other. Lu Yuan started picking through the rice, scooping it out one scoop at a time. But even after he had picked through the entire jar of rice, he still hadn't found a single grain with its shell on.

"Wow, even overly developed industries have their downsides. Aren't there any with shells at all?"

As they were talking, Lu Yuan's gaze suddenly fell on the bag of rice. The burlap sack had a double-layered seal at the seam to prevent the rice from leaking out, but there was also a downside: some rice could easily get mixed in.

Excitedly, Lu Yuan took the bag and used scissors to carefully open the bottom of the bag piece by piece. Sure enough, after opening it halfway, a few grains of unhulled rice fell out.

Looking at the rice still wrapped in its husk, Lu Yuan almost burst out laughing.
