Chapter Thirty-Six: Grandpa Had Heatstroke?

As usual, Lu Yuan was woken up early by his mother to pick various vegetables and fruits in the vegetable garden.

After working for about two hours, it was finally done. Although the vegetable garden was only a few hundred square meters, the main thing was that it produced a lot of fruit. Usually, you could only pick about ten kilograms of grapes from a single grapevine, and a better one could pick about twenty kilograms. But the grapevines in Lu Yuan's yard were different. He only planted one vine, and it had already spread all over the yard. It took two large baskets to pick all the ripe grapes.

The sun was already high in the sky, which meant that Lu Yuan had finally been able to see the sun at noon after a whole month.

The various fruit trees in the yard covered the entire yard like giant umbrellas, making the house very cool, while outside the house it was already 40 degrees Celsius.

Grandma cleaned the grapes using the old method, then dried some of them into raisins, and used the rest to make grape wine. Back in our hometown, grape yields were low; a dozen grapevines wouldn't produce many grapes. But now it's different. We have two large baskets full of grapes, which can be made into all sorts of delicious dishes.

I drove to Xiaoshan's house with a few pounds of grapes. Since Xiaoshan works as a customer service representative at a mobile phone store, her working hours are still the same as before. In fact, she has to work overtime because of the longer day and night hours, which is simply inhumane.

Passing by Xiaoshan's company, the passersby all looked listless. There was even a pancake stall owner who fell asleep while making pancakes and almost burned down his own stall.

They were all old acquaintances, and the girls at the mobile phone store greeted Lu Yuan as soon as he arrived.

"Brother Lu Yuan, what delicious food did you bring today?" A little girl saw Lu Yuan from afar, enthusiastically opened the door for him, and then looked at the bag in his hand.

"Tsk tsk tsk, look, look, Xiaoshan's boyfriend deserves to be called a boyfriend. And look at my guy, I wonder if I owed him something in my past life! What bad luck!" An older woman sighed and joined the ranks of those grabbing fruit.

Lu Yuan placed a bag of grapes on the counter, finally escaping the clutches of the women.

"Xiao Shan, look what I brought you!" Lu Yuan gently patted Xiao Shan awake as she was dozing off.

Xiao Shan yawned and said, "It's not eggplant again, is it? Please don't send eggplant again. My dad almost got into a fight with my mom over eggplant."

"Haha! Don't worry! This batch of eggplants is all gone, the next batch will probably be a few days away! My mom made some grape juice especially for you today, try it, it's all freshly made! There are also raisins and grape bread."

Xiao Shan opened the bag and looked inside, a happy expression spreading across her face.

Several employees, having finished their meal, noticed the items on Xiao Shan's table and their eyes lit up as they rushed over.

"Oh my! Lu Yuan, where did you buy these grapes? They're so fresh! And so big!" A woman grabbed a handful of raisins from the bag and asked while eating them.

"Yes, fruit is so expensive now. Grapes used to be less than ten yuan a pound, but now they're over fifty! We can't afford them at all!" Another woman quietly took a piece of cake from the bag.

Lu Yuan's face darkened. These were things he had prepared for his wife, how could these people just take them like that! Don't they treat themselves like family?!

Seeing that the items were almost all distributed, Xiaoshan quickly tied the bag shut and put it in her drawer.

After leaving the service center, Lu Yuan went to Xiao Shan's house. Seeing a bag full of grapes and various grape-based snacks, Xiao Shan's mother smiled and insisted that Lu Yuan come in. He had no choice but to follow her into the house.

Lu Yuan's mother-in-law was really good to him, treating him like a son. You could tell from the fact that she secretly took away the tea leaves that Xiao Shan's father thought were well hidden.

"This is the fine tea your uncle uses to entertain leaders. Take it with you later for your father-in-law and grandfather to try."

Lu Yuan refused awkwardly. He was joking, but if Xiao Shan's father found out, it was hard to say whether he would still be able to enter this family.

After staying at home for a while, my mother-in-law washed the grapes and brought in a plate of them.

"Sigh! Everything is expensive these days, so we haven't dared to buy much fruit at home. It's all thanks to you for bringing some home so often. Xiao Yuan, you need to hurry up! When are you going to take me and your uncle to meet your family? We can discuss your marriage plans!"

Just then, Xiaoshan's father opened the door and came in. He overheard the conversation and said sternly, "They're not even in a hurry, so why are you, their mother, in such a rush?"

It's obvious that the father-in-law is angry that he didn't arrange for both sets of parents to meet in time.

"Ahem! Uncle, Aunt, I just don't know how to start this conversation! My parents and grandparents have been urging me to, but I just don't know how to tell you, so... hehe!"

"You brat, do you think your aunt and I are those kinds of people? Make arrangements as soon as possible!" The father-in-law was slightly pleased, but his face fell again when he saw the tea leaves on the table, though he didn't say anything.

Just then, Lu Yuan's phone rang; it was his mother calling.

"What? Grandpa's in the hospital? Okay, I understand, I'm coming right now. Okay, the Second People's Hospital, um, I'll be right there!" Lu Yuan said, and hurriedly stood up.

The father-in-law and mother-in-law both looked nervous.

"Xiao Yuan, what happened to your grandfather?"

"My mom heard from the neighbors that my grandpa had heatstroke, so I'll have to go now and come back another day!"

"Heatstroke? It shouldn't be a big problem. Here, your aunt and I will go with you to get it checked out! I happen to have a friend who is a doctor at the Second People's Hospital, hopefully he can help!"

As he spoke, the father-in-law pulled Lu Yuan toward the door while making a phone call.

The car sped all the way to the Second People's Hospital, and the group rushed into the outpatient department.

The outpatient clinic was packed with people, many with blue fever-reducing patches on their foreheads. The aisles were also full of people sitting down. The sounds of men arguing, women and children crying, and doctors scolding each other made the already stuffy hall even more sweltering.

Lu Yuan could see his father's figure from afar.

"Dad! I'm here! Where's Grandpa?" Lu Yuan asked anxiously.

When Lu Yuan saw this, his father hurried over, his face showing anxiety. He said, "I just got the news and came back from the construction site. Hurry up and come upstairs!"

Suddenly, they saw Xiaoshan's father and mother standing next to Lu Yuan.

"Xiao Yuan, this is..."
