Chapter 169 Ghost Village

Upon hearing this, Yue Jiu Nian suddenly realized why these ghosts, though seemingly harmless, were still bothering them. Perhaps it was because the Ghost Festival was approaching and the ghosts were coming out to play.

There are still about ten days until the Ghost Festival in the human world. Normally, the ghost world will open the gates to release ghosts on the day of the Ghost Festival. However, this place is remote and unmanaged, so these wild ghosts came out to play early.

Old Hei and Old Wu led the group forward slowly. The villagers all seemed very enthusiastic and normal, not at all like ghosts. So they didn't dare to show their fierce side. After all, when some ghosts want to pretend to be human, you'd better not expose them, or it will be very troublesome.

So they had no choice but to keep refusing and keep moving forward, but just when they were about to leave the village, they were suddenly stopped again.

The couple who stopped them were dressed in bright red wedding attire. Their clothes were very retro, with a large red flower hanging on the groom's chest and a red veil covering the bride's head.

When Uncle Zhao saw the newlyweds, he was stunned. The villagers hadn't conjured up any scary ghosts before, so the people in the group were tense but not very afraid. But now that the newlyweds were blocking their way, they all panicked.

The groom looked a little pale, but he seemed normal. When he saw Uncle Zhao, he smiled and said to them, "Hello, are you here for a wedding too? Please come in. We're poor and don't have much to offer, so please bear with us."

Uncle Zhao watched the groom cautiously without speaking or following him. At that moment, Old Hei approached and said in his usual tone, "Sorry, we were just passing by, so we won't be drinking. But congratulations anyway!"

"Ah, I see. Okay then, but once you pass our village, the road might not be so easy to travel. Be careful!"

The groom still seemed very friendly, but his smile gave off a slightly unsettling feeling.

Upon hearing the groom's words, Lao Hei immediately nodded and said, "Okay, thank you."

But just as Lao Hei was about to lead the group away, the groom spoke up again, saying, "We know where you all want to go. Of course, we don't mean any harm. We just want you to do us a favor."

"What kind of help?"

Uncle Zhao spoke up this time. Although the villagers stopped being enthusiastic towards them after the groom came out and stopped pulling at them, they all stood to the side without saying a word. However, everyone could see that this groom was like a village leader, making the villagers listen to him.

"Hehe~ It's nothing really, just a small favor. As you can see, our village doesn't have many people, so the area is small. I just want you to cut down that old locust tree at the end of our village when you leave."

The groom made the request with a smile, but Old Black still saw the threat in his eyes, as if they wouldn't be able to get out if they didn't agree to help cut down the tree.

Uncle Zhao could see it too. No wonder the villagers were so friendly and had no ill intentions towards them; they had something to ask for.

"Okay, if it's just a regular big tree that we can cut down, we'll help."

In the end, Lao Hei agreed, so their group successfully passed through the ghost village.

It wasn't until they reached the end of the village and saw the locust tree that they understood why the villagers had asked them to help cut it down.

Because the tree was very large, and there were some strange skeletons hanging on it. They even discovered that there were many skeletons buried under the tree when they were cutting it down.

"Tsk~ No wonder they made us cut down trees, so that's why."

As Lao Hei wielded his tree-cutting tool and chopped down trees, he said, "This village probably didn't exist originally. They built a ghost village so that we would cut down trees, and then they make us help them cut down trees."

Actually, when they left the village and reached the end of it, they discovered that the village had disappeared. What puzzled them was why the ghosts had asked them to help cut down trees.
