Chapter Forty-Five: Roasted Pheasant

After three hostages were taken, the bad guys became very angry. The poisonous corpse, which was being controlled by Ya Zi, tried to get up several times, but Ya Zi held it down tightly and it failed to escape.

The very fat man who created the poisoned corpses retreated while protecting the last two hostages: "Hmph! It seems they have someone hiding in the shadows who hasn't come out yet. Everyone be careful."

The other bald man shouted angrily, "I can't believe you self-proclaimed righteous people resort to such underhanded tactics! If you've got the guts, come out and fight! What kind of person hides like this?!"

Those righteous people who were chasing after them didn't know what had happened, but they knew that the bad guys had suffered a loss. They mocked, "What kind of dishonorable methods are these? We're just a little smarter than you. It's clearly your own stupidity that's causing this, yet you're blaming us."

"Exactly, exactly, they really are a bunch of scoundrels."

"You shameless scoundrels, you're just stupid and you blame us for being too smart?"

Upon hearing their words, Yue Jiuling hid to the side, covering her mouth and chuckling: "I never imagined that those usually so rigid masters could be so eloquent."

Little Cabbage laughed too: "That's right, but Sister Jiuling, you're still the most amazing. They still don't know who launched the sneak attack."

"Hehe~ There are two more. I'll be able to anger them to death soon."

The chaotic battle here continues, while Yue Jiu Nian in the mountains is enduring hunger.

"Hey, do you even remember where that cave is? Can you hurry up? It's almost dark."

Yue Jiu Nian was urging Liu Zhan, who was leading the way for her, because the sun was about to set and it was getting dark. If it got dark, she wouldn't be able to get down the mountain that night, so Yue Jiu Nian was very anxious.

She was anxious, and so was Liu Zhan, who was leading the way. He seemed to have remembered the wrong route and was now sweating profusely with worry. He said, "I'm sorry, I think I remembered the wrong route. That cave isn't this way..."

Upon hearing this, Yue Jiu Nian became even more anxious: "No way, you remembered wrong? What should we do then? Anyway, I must find that cave, otherwise I won't take you down the mountain."

Liu Zhan knew that Yue Jiu Nian was looking for something very important, but he didn't know what it was. He also needed Yue Jiu Nian's help to get down the mountain, so he anxiously said, "Don't be angry yet, let me think about which direction to take. Ugh, there are trees everywhere here, I'm completely confused..."

Yue Jiu Nian knew that she was destined to spend the night on the mountain, so she stopped urging him: "Fine, then you can think about it slowly. I'll go get something to eat."

Yue Jiu Nian did bring food, but after eating dry rations for a few days, she didn't want to eat them anymore and wanted to eat something fresh, like wild game.

In order to get some wild game, she squatted down and secretly released some spiritual power, intending to lure the small animals in the vicinity.

Liu Zhan was tired after walking for so long. He saw Yue Jiu Nian sit down to rest, so he casually sat down on the grass as well. He said to Yue Jiu Nian in a somewhat ingratiating way, "Oh, Miss, do you have anything to eat? I'm so hungry."

While he was speaking, his eyes were fixed on Yue Jiu Nian's backpack, clearly indicating that he had guessed there was food inside.

Yue Jiu was casting a spell and didn't have time to talk to him, but she still kindly tossed her backpack to Liu Zhan, indicating that he should find something to eat himself.

Liu Zhan took the backpack and happily rummaged through it for something to eat. He said, "You're such a good person. Those people who captured me before wouldn't give me any food, just water. They were awful. But thankfully they're all dead now."

Liu Zhan was eating the bread he had found while complaining, but before he could finish it, he suddenly saw a very large wild pheasant run out of the woods and run towards them until it reached Yue Jiu Nian, who grabbed it by the neck.

Yue Jiu Nian caught the wild pheasant and immediately stood up. She smiled and asked Liu Zhan, "Is the bread delicious?"

Liu Zhan stared blankly at the pheasant that had been caught but didn't resist, and nodded, saying, "Delicious! But what's up with this pheasant?"

Liu Zhan pointed at the pheasant in Yue Jiu Nian's hand and asked in confusion, "How did it run out on its own? And why didn't it run away after you caught it? Do you two know each other?"

Yue Jiu Nian still smiled and said, "We don't know each other, but since you like bread so much, why don't you skip the chicken and just eat the bread?"

Upon hearing this, Liu Zhan looked at the bread in his hand, then at the large pheasant that Yue Jiu Nian was holding, and finally shamelessly shook his head, saying, "No, I want to eat chicken too. I'll help you find that cave as soon as possible, so please share some meat with me~"

Yue Jiu Nian seemed to be contemplating some important national matter. After thinking seriously for a while, she said, "Alright, considering how hard you've worked, I can share some chicken with you."

Actually, Yue Jiu Nian was just teasing Liu Zhan; she didn't really mean she wouldn't share the chicken with him. So, after pretending to agree, she strangled the wild pheasant and handed it to Liu Zhan to deal with: "Do you know how to kill a chicken?"

Liu Zhan was a high school student in his teens, the kind of pampered young master who never lifted a finger. He originally thought Yue Jiunian would handle the chicken, but unexpectedly, Yue Jiunian asked him to handle it.

Looking at the dead pheasant, he swallowed hard and said with some difficulty, "I... I can't... Maybe I shouldn't eat it..."
