Chapter Forty-Two: Surprise

"Hey, why did you bring me in here? You didn't bring me here just to see how rich your owner is, did you?"

Yue Jiu still doesn't know why this ghostly thing wants her to come here. Does it really want her to visit its master's tomb?

After Yue Jiunian asked this question, the ghostly thing gently touched Yue Jiunian's foot with its paw and then gestured for Yue Jiunian to follow it.

After seeing its actions, Yue Jiu Nian followed it until she reached the back of the tomb owner's coffin. Only then did she understand why this ghostly thing had let her in: there was a living person inside, a living person who had not been killed by it.

The living person was a boy who looked to be only a teenager. His hands were tied behind his back, and he was unconscious behind this luxurious and huge coffin.

When Yue Jiu saw the coffin of the tomb owner, she knew that the tomb owner was no longer there, because she could not sense any ghostly aura in it. Therefore, she was certain that the tomb owner had gone to the underworld to be reincarnated. It was just a pity for the thing guarding the tomb, guarding a pile of treasures that had no owner.

But let them guard it if they want; it's none of my business. The reason that thing let me in is probably so that it can take this unconscious boy away.

"Why didn't you kill him and instead let me take him away?"

Yue Jiu Nian kicked the boy with her foot while asking the ghost thing.

The ghostly thing remained silent, but it seemed reluctant to approach the boy, keeping its distance.

Yue Jiu couldn't understand why the ghost was afraid to approach the boy, so she decided to wake him up: "Hey, wake up, or you're doomed! There's a ghost!"

The boy was probably already terrified, so he was quickly awakened after Yue Jiu Nian shouted a few times.

"Ahhh! A ghost! A ghost!"

As soon as the boy woke up, he jumped up and started yelling, as if a ghost was about to bite him. Yue Jiu Nian got a headache from his yelling, so in order to calm him down, she decided to slap him.

"Smack!"

"Hey, calm down!"

Surprisingly, the slap was quite effective. After being slapped, the boy calmed down. However, under the light of Yue Jiu Nian's flashlight, he could clearly see Yue Jiu Nian's appearance and the ghostly thing lying on the ground.

The boy stared at the ghostly thing, trembling, and cried out to Yue Jiu, "Help, help me..."

Yue Jiu Nian knew what he was afraid of, so she said, "Can you still walk? If you can, come with me. I can get you out of here."

She ignored the boy and the ghostly thing and walked out of the tomb first. When the boy saw Yue Jiu Nian leave like that, he quickly followed after her with a crying face.

"Wait for me..."

The ghostly thing clearly wanted the boy to leave, so it didn't leave with the two of them and stayed in the tomb.

Yue Jiu Nian quickly walked out of the tomb chamber, saying as she went, "Alright, don't be afraid anymore, it won't follow us."

The boy wasn't so scared anymore because he didn't see the ghostly thing follow him. He was a little excited and felt like he had just escaped death. He said, "Thank you so much. I thought I was going to die this time. I'm so glad I can come out alive."

Yue Jiu Nian saw that the boy's hands were still tied with rope, so she wanted to untie him: "What's going on with you? Did you and your tomb raiding team find too much treasure and then turn on each other because of a dispute over the loot? And now you're tied up and sent up as a snack?"

"No, no, you've misunderstood. I was captured by them, I'm not with them."

The boy's hands were tied too tightly with rope, and Yue Jiu couldn't untie them in time. When the boy saw this, he said, "Knife, I have a knife in my pocket. Take it out and help me cut the rope."

Upon hearing that there was a knife, Yue Jiu Nian became too lazy to struggle with the rope and reached out to touch the boy's pocket. But who knew that this touch would lead her to an unexpected surprise!

Because the knife she pulled out was something she was most familiar with, her own weapon, the pair of short swords that had been with her for many years!
