"Shhh~"
"Tick-tock~ Tick-tock~"
Inside the dark cave, there was only the sound of one person walking and the sound of water dripping. However, the more Yue Jiunian walked, the stranger the place seemed. The cave had been sealed for many years. Although there was a water source inside, the air was too fresh. Apart from being a little damp, there was no other strange smell. It didn't seem like it had been sealed for many years at all.
"Could there be another exit here? But why can't I sense the wind direction?"
It would be easy for a demon to sense the wind direction, but Yue Jiu Nian couldn't sense any wind at all; she only felt that the air here was very fresh.
"Squeak squeak squeak!~"
Just as Yue Jiunian was wondering, several sounds like mice squeaking suddenly came from inside the cave. Upon hearing this sound, Yue Jiunian immediately became excited!
Rats, huh? Since there are living creatures here, there must be another exit, otherwise how could rats get in? I just don't know how big that exit is.
Yue Jiunian vaguely remembered that the cave had two exits. She blocked one exit after she hid inside, leaving the other one open for her to escape. However, she couldn't remember what happened to her after that, because she woke up in the human world after losing consciousness.
'Squeak squeak squeak~'
The rats continued to squeal. Although Yue Jiu Nian didn't understand their language, she could tell from their voices that they seemed a bit agitated.
Yue Jiu quietly turned off her flashlight and walked forward, intending to catch those rats.
With her excellent eyesight, she could see several mice huddled together eating something near a rock not far ahead.
Yue Jiu Nian didn't know what they ate, but judging from the smell in the air, she guessed it wasn't anything good.
Yue Jiu didn't want to disturb them while they were eating, and she also didn't want to see anything disgusting. So, instead of moving forward, she squatted down and secretly observed them.
Just as the rats were about to finish eating and Yue Jiu Nian was about to catch them, she suddenly heard the sound of running footsteps ahead.
Yue Jiu Nian could tell from the sound that it was human footsteps, and there was more than one person. But how could there be so many people in this remote mountain cave?
When the unexpected happened, Yue Jiunian did not stand up immediately, but remained squatting on the ground, observing secretly.
A moment later, Yue Jiu Nian saw several figures running towards her from the other end of the cave, accompanied by shouts:
"Help!~"
"Quick! Get up!"
"He's here! He's coming!"
"Aaaaaaah!!"
...
All I could see in the darkness was that the people seemed to be being chased by something, and then one by one they were killed by that thing.
Not long after, those people seemed to have all fallen to the ground and were motionless, and Yue Jiu Nian finally stood up.
Those rats had long since disappeared. Yue Jiu Nian noticed the change in the smell in the air, and her expression changed accordingly.
The blood and corpses scattered all over the ground made Yue Jiu Nian realize for the first time that having good eyesight wasn't such a good thing, because the feeling was just too disgusting.
There were about three or four corpses on the ground, but they had all been cruelly dismembered by something. Yue Jiu thought of what the rats had been eating earlier and suddenly didn't want to stay there anymore.
"Hmm? What is this?"
Just as Yue Jiu Nian was about to lift her foot and continue walking forward, her eyes were suddenly drawn to a hiking backpack that had been left lying to the side.
The backpack was large, and the zipper wasn't fully closed. It was bulging inside, probably containing a lot of things. What caught Yue Jiu Nian's eye was a stack of yellow paper talismans peeking out from inside the backpack.
Yue Jiu Nian fearlessly bent down and pulled the stack of yellow paper talismans from her backpack, not at all afraid of becoming a monster courting death. She looked at the yellow paper talismans and smiled: "Heh~ So you're a group of tomb raiders. But what kind of tomb could there be in this place?"
Yue Jiu Nian recognized all those yellow paper talismans because she had once recklessly studied those exorcism and ghost-avoiding talismans, so she could tell that these talismans were nothing more than amulets for exorcising ghosts and evil spirits, as well as for suppressing corpses.
She remembered someone saying that it's normal for normal people to carry some exorcising talismans to ward off evil spirits, but it's different if someone carries a corpse-suppressing talisman, because that person is very likely a low-level worker, or what the metaphysical circle calls a tomb raider.
"Grave-robbing rats?"
Yue Jiu Nian smiled at the mutilated corpses at her feet: "I hope you're robbing someone else's grave and don't stumble upon my real body."
In fact, Yue Jiu Nian was a little worried when she discovered that there were tomb raiders here. After all, her true body could be considered a treasure that had not decayed for thousands of years. Of course, this was only if no one touched it.
However, seeing that the corpses only had evil energy and no demonic energy, they felt much relieved. It seemed that they had not encountered any monsters, but at most evil creatures.
After Yue Jiu Nian threw down the stack of yellow paper talismans, she continued walking forward, feeling as if something was waiting for her ahead.
Sure enough, not long after they left, Yue Jiu Nian smelled a very foul odor, like something that had been rotting for a long time, which was extremely unpleasant.
Yue Jiu Nian covered her nose with her hand and looked up at the thing above her head. She could only see a human-shaped thing lying on the top of the cave, but it was all black and wet, so she couldn't see its original shape at all.
