Chapter 168 Barren Mountain

Just as dawn broke, Old Wu woke up Yue Jiu Nian and Yue Jiu Zai with a dark expression, because they had to continue their journey.

Yue Jiu Nian was still a little groggy from sleep, so when she was woken up, she still looked like she hadn't woken up yet. Yue Jiu Zai was the same. The two of them yawned and followed the group.

Seeing their appearance made Jiang Yan want to laugh, but he didn't dare to actually laugh out loud. After all, one of their team members had just died last night, and it seemed inappropriate to laugh out loud at this moment.

Because of Ah Liang's death, everyone kept their heads down and didn't talk much while traveling. However, in this somber atmosphere, after walking for a long time, they finally left the forest and arrived at a desolate mountain.

This mountain range is continuous, towering into the clouds, with lush trees and overgrown weeds. There are only grass and trees on the mountain, and there is not even a mountain path. It is obvious that no one has been here.

After entering the mountain, Yue Jiu Nian felt something was amiss, because the yin energy on this mountain was even stronger than that in the previous forest!

Not long after entering the mountains, it was already afternoon, but even though it was still broad daylight, a thick white fog suddenly appeared in the mountains, blocking everyone's view.

Seeing the sudden thick fog on the mountain, everyone became alert and walked one after another, afraid of getting lost in the fog.

"Holy crap, what's going on with this mountain?"

While drinking water, Yue Jiu Nian whispered to Yue Jiu Zai, who also looked serious. She said, "I don't know, but I feel something is wrong with this fog."

Just as she finished speaking, she suddenly heard people talking in front of her, and not just one or two people, but many people. She also heard gongs and drums being played and firecrackers being set off, as if someone was celebrating a happy occasion. The noise was very loud.

"Huh? What's going on?"

As Yue Jiu Nian and Yue Jiu Zai listened to these sounds, feeling puzzled, the thick fog in front of them suddenly dissipated, revealing a village in front of them.

When Yue Jiu Nian saw the village ahead, her heart skipped a beat, but a cold smile appeared on her face the next second.

The village ahead seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. It was bustling with activity, with people coming and going. Every household was celebrating as if it were Chinese New Year, setting off firecrackers and fireworks, and even playing drums and gongs, performing lion dances, and creating a lively atmosphere, as if they were celebrating a grand occasion.

When Lao Wu and Lao Hei saw the village that had appeared out of nowhere, they both looked surprised, as if wondering what was going on with this village, that there would be such a village in such a remote mountain area.

Old Wu immediately stopped the group. He nervously asked Old Hei, "Brother, what's going on? How come there's a village here?"

Old Hei also looked shocked. He paused for a moment before saying, "I don't know. The last time I came here was several years ago. I didn't come across any villages back then. Could it be that I went the wrong way again?"

He turned to find Uncle Zhao, saying, "Uncle Zhao, take a look—"

Uncle Zhao was already standing beside them, looking completely bewildered. He had been here before and knew that there were no villages in this mountain. He frowned and said, "Impossible. There are no villages here. Your path is correct. I remember the way; it's this way."

"What about the village ahead and those people?"

Old Hei stared intently at the village ahead as he spoke.

The village was only a hundred meters away from them, so they could see a large stone tablet in front of them with the words "Zhangjia Village" engraved on it, and then there were rows of houses behind it.

The area in front of the house was full of people, and the village was filled with laughter and joy, which felt very real. This shocked Lao Hei and his companions.

Just as they were all standing still, afraid to move because of the village, the fat man who was guarding Yue Jiu Nian and the others ran up from behind and said, "Brother, why aren't you moving? What's wrong with the village ahead? Are you all afraid to go? Is it a ghost village?"

Most of the people in the group heard Lao Hei and the others discussing this matter, so they didn't dare to speak and were waiting for their leader to make a decision. Fatty, however, was at the back of the group and wasn't entirely clear on the situation. Fatty pushed Jiang Yan, Yue Jiu Nian, and Yue Jiu Zai forward and asked, "What's wrong? Why is everyone so quiet?"

Old Hei and the others glanced back at Fatty, then remained silent. Seeing the situation, Uncle Zhao pulled a small compass from his pocket.

He said, "Well, I think we haven't gone the wrong way this time, but I'm not sure if that's really the case. If we haven't gone the wrong way this time, then the problem lies with the village ahead."

"It's obvious that there's something wrong with the village up ahead."

Old Hei couldn't help but ask, "Where would a village be in such a desolate mountain?"

Uncle Zhao didn't respond to Lao Hei this time. He just glanced at him, then pointed the compass towards the village and handed it forward!

The compass was originally used to measure feng shui and yin and yang, so many people who know a little about traditional Chinese medicine like to use the compass.

But when Uncle Zhao handed the compass towards the village, it suddenly started spinning wildly. The needle just wouldn't stop, as if it were broken.
