The man who applied earlier was asked a few simple questions, failed the interview, and left dejectedly.
It was finally the man with the black-rimmed glasses' turn.
The person in charge of the interview was a man in his thirties dressed in black.
"Name? Age?" The interviewer glanced at him and asked coldly.
"Chen Dong, 32 years old."
"Chen Dong?" The interviewer was slightly surprised, feeling that anyone with the character "Dong" in their name was not simple.
"Leader, is Chen of the East, Dong of the East."
"Damn, you scared me! I thought your name was the same as our big boss's."
"I wouldn't dare, how could I possibly use the same character as Master Dong?"
"Hmph, you're smart enough to know what's good for you! Judging from your accent, you're from China?"
"Your Excellency, I have been working at Yinni for almost 5 years, but the economic situation has been bad recently, and I haven't been able to find a job."
Seeing that this guy was quite adept at speaking, the interviewer couldn't help but scrutinize him a few more times:
"Tell me, what are your specialties? What position are you planning to apply for?"
Chen Dong bowed politely: "I used to run a company, I know how to manage, I can drive... Of course, having been around for many years, I can also do things like pouring drinks and doing odd jobs."
"Hmm, you seem quite shrewd. Did you actually work as a boss before?" the interviewer asked.
"Yes, but the company went bankrupt, which is why I went abroad."
"That's right. Do you know the rules of our Dragon Roar Nightclub? To work here, you must be diligent and loyal."
"Know."
"Also, we have a bottom-ranking elimination system every month. Those who don't perform well won't last a month."
"I understand, and I will definitely work even harder!"
"Great, you're hired. Start working tonight. But don't even think about management positions; you'll be a waiter."
Chen Dong was overjoyed and bowed deeply, saying, "Thank you, leader! I, Chen Dong, will never forget your great kindness!"
The young interviewer, who had been addressed as "leader" a few times, smiled knowingly and waved his hand, saying:
"Alright, alright, hurry back and get ready... Next!"
Chen Dong bowed again and left the interview table.
I walked along the main street to an intersection and saw a bakery on the side of the road.
He hesitated for a moment, felt the few coins he had left in his pocket, gritted his teeth, and went inside.
I just paid the rent this morning, and all I have left in my pocket is enough to buy a few slices of wheat bread.
If he hadn't really reached the end of his rope, why would he have gone to work at a place like the Dragon Roar Nightclub?
Nightclubs may be crowded and chaotic, but they're a quick way to make money. If you're good at it, the daily tips alone can cover your food expenses.
After a while, Chen Dong came out of the bakery carrying a plastic bag.
After crossing this intersection, you'll reach Jakarta's Chinatown.
He lived in a residential area on the westernmost side of Chinatown, where there were many old buildings and the rent was cheap.
It took Chen Dong more than 30 minutes to get back to his three-story house.
The building is dilapidated and appears to be quite old.
The first floor is a row of warehouses, and on the balconies of the second and third floors, clothes are hung out to dry.
From a distance, it looks like it's covered with flags from all over the world.
Climb the stairs to the upper floor.
Chen Dong held the bread bag in his hand under his nose and sniffed it hard.
The distinctive aroma of wheat bread invigorated him.
Once you reach the third floor, walk to the second-to-last room on the left.
Chen Dong peered quickly downstairs through the clothes drying in the sun.
Then, I stood in the hallway and waited for about a minute.
After confirming that no suspicious persons were following them.
He then took out his key and carefully unlocked the iron door of the rented room.
Turning around and closing the door, Chen Dong walked to the bedside and placed the bread bag on a square folding table.
The room was very simple; apart from a black and white television, there was nothing of value.
The small space was filled with an unpleasant smell of Chinese medicine.
"Cough cough cough... cough cough cough..."
The blanket on the bed shifted, followed by a violent coughing fit.
Chen Dong frowned, glanced at the bedside, and said, "Hainian, did you take your medicine today?"
"Cough cough cough... cough cough cough..."
His response was an even more violent cough.
Chen Dong sighed, opened the Chinese medicine pot on the table, and saw that there was still more than half of the medicine soup left.
"Hainian, you still need to keep taking your medicine. How are we going to leave this hellhole if you don't get better?"
"Get up, I bought you bread. Take some after you finish your medicine."
The disheveled blankets trembled a few times, and suppressed breathing could be heard from inside.
Clearly, the person lying in bed was struggling to suppress the urge to cough.
"Brother, do you think... cough cough... we can still go back?"
The voices from under the covers were somewhat muffled, tinged with a sob.
"Of course, once we've earned enough for the journey, I'll take you away," Chen Dong said reassuringly.
"How long? A year? Two years? Or ten years?" A sob came from under the covers. "Brother, I don't want to live this dog-like life anymore. I want to go home, sob sob..."
A fleeting look of pain crossed Chen Dong's face behind his glasses.
He slowly reached out and patted the shaking blanket: "Hainian, believe me. If I can bring you out, I can naturally bring you back."
"I found a job at the Dragon Cry Nightclub, run by the Dragon Gang."
"Believe me, with my brains and abilities, I can not only earn enough money to go back quickly, but also find a safe way back."
