It was 7 a.m., just as dawn was breaking.
Dubois once again gathered three mountain companies, divided them into 10 squads, and sent them to reinforce the mountainous area where the battle had taken place the previous night.
Deep in the mountains, the six combat teams that suffered heavy losses last night have been merged back into three.
Thus, the number of search teams scattered in the deep mountains by the First Mixed Regiment increased to 17, reaching the strength of a battalion.
Such a huge investment, just to deal with three mountain guerrilla teams of a mere 30 people.
It is clear that yesterday's defeat has caused Dubois to lose face.
Now, of course, we will spare no expense to annihilate this despicable guerrilla force...
Having learned a painful lesson yesterday, the mountain warfare unit responsible for the search mission changed its strategy.
Instead of venturing further, they split up the area and formed teams to search together.
Typically, a small team leads the way, and they stop immediately upon discovering a trap.
The other two teams following behind will then quickly flank the enemy from the left and right.
As a result, the already insufficient guerrilla forces will find it difficult to ambush the search teams that entered the trap points using the terrain advantage, just as they did last night.
Since it is now daytime, the traps and devices set up by the guerrillas in the jungle are no longer as effective.
Kachin soldiers, who have extensive experience in mountain warfare, are already familiar with these tactics.
If they are careful and cautious during the search, the traps will not cause them much harm.
What troubled the guerrillas most was that the Kachin army had learned its lesson this time.
Instead of rushing in rashly, three small teams worked together to search a mountainous area.
With an area force close to a company's worth of troops, any 10-man guerrilla squad that dares to launch an attack will quickly find itself surrounded and annihilated by the enemy's superior numbers.

Kun Zhonglun lay on the branch of an ancient tree and observed the opposite mountain with binoculars for nearly 15 minutes.
Starting at 8 a.m., his guerrilla squad was chased by Kachin soldiers across four hilltops.
The enemy has become smarter; carefully set hunting traps are less likely to catch people off guard.
They wanted to use the familiar terrain to launch a surprise attack, but unfortunately, their opponents were operating in coordinated formations.
With such a pitifully small force, they were almost surrounded and wiped out as soon as the battle began.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly and, after injuring three people, decisively led his brothers away from the ambush point.
Otherwise, his entire guerrilla squad would probably have perished in the mountains today.
"Captain, we're not far from supply point number 3 now. Should we retreat there first?"
A slender young team member quickly climbed the ancient tree. He nimbly clung to the branches, approached Kun Zhonglun, and asked in a low voice.
"I know, monkey. Give the order to have everyone take stock of the equipment and food immediately."
Kun Zhonglun put down his binoculars and turned to the small-statured team member.
"Okay, I'll let everyone know right away."
The skinny team member, nicknamed "Monkey," agreed in a low voice, then flipped over and, like a nimble monkey, slid down the tree trunk to the ground.
After a while, he emerged from the woods again, climbed back to Kunzhonglun's side, and reported:
"Captain, inventory complete. We're running low on bullets, poison arrows, and grenades. Enough for one battle below the platoon level."
"The dry rations we brought haven't been used up much; they can last for two more days."
Kun Zhonglun nodded, frowned and pondered for a moment, then turned his head and said:
"Since the enemy is determined to annihilate us, how can we just hand ourselves over to them? Let's go to supply point number 3."
"yes!"
The two slid down from the ancient tree one after the other. As soon as their feet touched the ground, the monkey asked in confusion:
"Captain, there are too many of these Independent Army bastards, and they're incredibly cunning. How are we supposed to fight them with just our numbers?"
Kun Zhonglun bent down, squeezed through a clump of low bushes, and said without turning his head:
"Who said we were going to fight them?"
The monkey following behind was bewildered and scratched its head:
"If we don't fight them, what can we do?"
Kun Zhonglun said in a deep voice:
"Go back to the supply point, replenish enough ammunition and rations, then take them for a spin in the mountains..."
That's it?
The monkey, who had always considered this deep mountain as its main battlefield and dreamed of killing enemies and making a name for itself, was no longer willing to accept this. It pouted and muttered:
"Are you just going around in circles without killing anyone? What a waste of time?"
At this moment, Kunzhonglun, who was walking ahead with his back bent over, suddenly stopped. The monkey was not paying attention and bumped into the captain's back with a "thud".
"Ouch!"
"Captain, what are you doing? Is there something going on up ahead?"
Kun Zhonglun ignored him, reached out, grabbed his ear and pulled him in front of him, then slapped the guy hard on the head with his other hand:
"You're all talk! You're always thinking about fighting. With so few of us, are we just going to be easy prey if we go head-to-head with them?"
"Listen, after you have resupplyed at the supply depot, order the three squads to immediately march north, bypass the Wulu River, and meet up at Luoshiyan."
The monkey rubbed its head where it had been hit, and said with a pained expression, "Why are we going to Falling Rock?"
"As Boss Lin instructed, the secrets of heaven cannot be revealed. You'll understand when you arrive."

Two kilometers from the Eagle Valley Pass, inside the barracks of the First Mixed Regiment.
Dubois was engrossed in looking at the battle map on the table.
