Chapter 47 The Puppet Master

Neither of them spoke in the car, and the atmosphere became a little awkward.

Su Chengcheng handed Li Qing a box of pre-packaged Jianbing Guozi (Chinese crepes), a deluxe version with a large quantity.

Li Qing is busy with work and eats irregularly, so Su Chengcheng often feeds her.

She took it, and remembering Su Chengcheng's obsession with cleanliness, she suddenly asked in a pretentious tone, "Aren't you afraid I'll get your car dirty?"

Su Chengcheng turned to look at her, and gently raised the corners of his mouth, saying, "Others can't, but you can."

Upon hearing this, Li Qing looked out the window on the other side, unusually refined as she ate her pancake, a blush creeping up her ears.

Who says Dr. Su can't say sweet nothings? Isn't she saying them quite well?

A soft laugh reached my ears, especially noticeable in the quiet space.

Equally noticeable was Li Qing's heartbeat.

Just as Li Qing was about to say something to break the silence, several people came out of the gate in police cars and headed out on a police mission.

She silently sympathized with him, then went out on another call late at night.

Su Chengcheng opened the navigation app, his brows furrowing. "We might have to take a detour; there's a giant billboard that's fallen down ahead."

This area is considered part of the old town, with a large flow of people, but the roads are somewhat narrow. There are many billboards on both sides, flashing various neon lights at night.

At that moment, Li Qing's work group also started buzzing.

A colleague sent photos of the accident scene: a giant billboard had collapsed, crashing heavily to the ground and shattering into pieces.

Fortunately, no one happened to be passing by at the time; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

There is a smart clock on the road sign that freezes time when it falls over.

Li Qing checked his watch; it had been three minutes earlier.

She muttered to herself for three minutes.

Suddenly, something welled up in her heart, and she abruptly turned to look at Su Chengcheng. Su Chengcheng, puzzled, asked, "What's wrong?"

Li Qing swallowed hard. If she had run away just now, Su Chengcheng would definitely have turned around and left first in order to give her time and not pressure her.

At his driving speed, it would take him about three minutes to pass through this section of road.

In other words, it's possible that Su Chengcheng's car will be smashed.

Li Qing felt a wave of fear wash over him.

If hit by the billboard, the car underneath would be as flat as tofu, given its weight.

Li Qing leaned back in his chair, panting heavily, his heart pounding at 180.

Could it be that Jiang Si told her not to miss out?

Seeing that she looked strange, Su Chengcheng stopped the car and frowned, asking, "Qingqing, what's wrong?"

Li Qing stared blankly at Su Chengcheng. If Su Chengcheng really died because of this, she couldn't imagine what her life would be like. Could she really accept Su Chengcheng disappearing from her life?

No wonder people say she will die alone.

Is this just a coincidence, or did Jiang Si really figure it out?

Thinking about all the strange things that had happened to Jiang Si, Li Qing's strange feeling surged up again. She seemed to be someone who was out of place in their world.

Li Qing shook her head. "It's nothing."

She calmed herself down and said, "Su Chengcheng, if I had dodged just now, would you have turned around and left?"

Su Chengcheng didn't expect Li Qing to ask him directly; he thought she was going to try to escape again.

"I don't want to pressure you." Su Chengcheng gripped the steering wheel tightly.

“If you don’t want to force me, then you’ll just turn around and leave. That might be…” Li Qing finished his sentence with some difficulty: “It might be that you run into that falling billboard.”

"Huh?" Su Chengcheng didn't expect Li Qing's thought process to turn to this. "Don't overthink it, it's not that much of a coincidence."

Li Qing forced a smile.

Born into a large compound, she was raised with an education that prevented her from believing in such supernatural and superstitious things. But when she thought back to the time when her parents talked about certain things when she was a child, she wondered, does such a thing really not exist in this world?

She felt she needed to contact Jiang Si again.

Li Qing was struggling with this, while Jiang Si finished giving her statement and went home, kindly buying a late-night snack for the little mouse at home.

Pushing open the door, Qi Yan was cleaning up some of the broken things.

Jiang Si was comforted, realizing that this rat wasn't entirely useless.

“Not bad,” Jiang Si placed the midnight snack on the table, “It seems that raising you is still somewhat useful.”

Qi Yan leaned over, dumped the trash into the bin, and said, "We're civilized rats too."

Hearing this, Jiang Si asked curiously, "You rats can do this?"

Qi Yan was furious and put his hands on his hips: "What's wrong with us rats? We've been educated too!"

"But you," Qi Yan said, picking up the crayfish Jiang Si had brought back without ceremony, "those people didn't give you any trouble, did they?"

Qi Yan was not exactly an expert on human rules, but he was quite familiar with them.

Li Zhengsong was clearly a rich young master, and a rich young master would never tolerate being wronged.

“You don’t need to worry about that,” Jiang Si said nonchalantly. “For the time being, no one should be able to touch me.”

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a hissing sound came from below.

The two looked toward the source of the sound in unison. Through the closed window, a puppet wearing a fanged mask floated there, its lifeless eyes fixed on them.

"Click, click, click..." The puppet made a mechanical sound as it turned.

"..."

Jiang Si commented, "Looks like the technique isn't very good."

Qi Yan didn't know whether he should be optimistic or not.

They're on the 20th floor, and they can control puppets thousands of miles away; their skills can't be lacking.

He asked cautiously, "Can you handle it?"

I don't want him to do it, do I? He just peeled his crayfish and wants to eat it.

Jiang Si strongly disagreed: "Aren't you going to help?"

Qi Yan shrugged: "I'm just a kid."

"Tsk tsk tsk," Jiang Si sighed meaningfully. She didn't even think about asking Qi Yan for help. She stepped forward, opened the window, and confronted the puppet floating outside the door.

Seemingly sensing Jiang Si, the puppet head turned around, its lifeless eyes seemingly gaining a life of their own, staring intently at Jiang Si.

It was nearly midnight when a humanoid figure dressed entirely in black and wearing a mask was hanging on a building over twenty stories high – quite terrifying.

The guy on the opposite balcony was about to take in his laundry when he looked up and froze on the spot in shock. What the hell was that?! But when he looked again, there was nothing there.

He rubbed his eyes and muttered incredulously, "Am I seeing things?"

A gust of wind blew by, raising goosebumps all over his body. He rubbed his arms vigorously, quickly gathered his clothes, and went back inside, slamming the door shut.

This is really weird! He shuddered.

Jiang Si scoffed, "You think so highly of me, huh? You actually used the Thousand-Mile Puppet Technique. What a pity..."

She sighed softly, and before the puppet could launch an attack, she unexpectedly grabbed it by the neck, a disdainful smile on her face: "Hiding your head and showing your tail, why don't you let me see your true face?"

In the basement of a large mansion deep in the mountains, a middle-aged man dressed in a Taoist robe could only make "ho ho" sounds, as if someone had grabbed his throat.

A divine sense probed over, and he was terrified. Ignoring the backlash, he severed the connection with the puppet and spat out a mouthful of blood.
