At sunset, Shinagawa Station
Shiratori and Takagi have already arrested the suspected arsonist at Shinagawa Station. However, the suspect insists that he did not commit arson and is just a thief.
Takagi slumped in a chair at the station, glancing casually at the sign. When he saw the sign for the platform, his thoughts instantly cleared. He had a look of realization on his face. He had solved the mystery. Overjoyed, he recalled the divination and his face flushed with happiness. He seemed to already foresee himself and Miwako walking hand in hand down the aisle, with Shiratori wiping away tears with a look of resentment in the hall.
"Officer Takagi, what are you thinking about?"
Takagi was startled and looked at Shiratori, who was staring at him with suspicion, and didn't know what to say for a moment.
Shiratori was puzzled. He had just finished the call when he noticed that his colleague, whose face was usually dark, was flushed. Based on Shiratori's experience, this was definitely not because of the heat; there must be some other secret he was hiding.
He wanted to catch the suspect quickly so he could propose to Miwako. He could almost picture himself and Miwako holding hands, with Takagi sitting on a chair, embracing and crying.
He turned around and saw Takagi with a flirtatious look on her face. He was very perceptive and immediately noticed that something was wrong with Takagi, so he naturally came over to ask her.
After stammering for a while, Takagi put away his phone and left first, using the ever-present excuse of needing to pee.
Shiratori didn't get any information and looked at Takagi, who had already run far away, with suspicion. For some reason, he felt a sense of unease, though he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He just felt that Takagi was about to do something that would make him very uncomfortable.
As dusk fell, Ayumi, along with Miwako and the others, arrived at the supermarket where Ayumi had encountered the arsonist the previous night.
Just then, Miwako's phone rang. She had been smiling, but when Takagi said he already knew who the murderer was, her smile froze instantly, and her face turned terrifyingly grim.
According to Takagi, the murderer has already met with everyone today.
Just as Takagi was about to ask who the murderer was, he suddenly hung up the phone.
Takagi clutched his chest, feeling like his heart was about to jump out of his chest. He opened the phone booth door and shouted at Shiratori outside, "Officer Shiratori! Don't you know that scaring someone can kill them?!"
His mood was like a rollercoaster. Takagi estimated that if this happened a few more times, he would have to meet his father-in-law. He was about to say it, about to hear Miwako's praise, about to win the heart of his beauty. But then Shiratori jumped out and ruined his plans, just like Shiro.
And this is the second time already! The first time, Takagi wasn't too upset before even making the call, but the second time, he was interrupted just as he was about to speak, which made him extremely uncomfortable.
Shiratori crossed his arms and looked at Takagi indifferently, showing no remorse for what had just happened. He said, "Officer Takagi, I think your actions are highly problematic."
He showed no remorse whatsoever. He trusted his sixth sense as a police officer, and his intuition told him that Takagi was definitely up to something. He knew he would regret it if he didn't go to find Takagi.
Takagi hurriedly stepped out of the phone booth and closed the door: "I'm just making a phone call to my family. I promised them I'd go out to dinner today."
After saying that, he turned and left, muttering to himself, "Anyway, once I catch the murderer, Miwako will become my girlfriend. It shouldn't be considered a lie. Yes, it definitely isn't!"
Shiratori squinted at Takagi's back, feeling that something was off, but since he couldn't read minds, he didn't know what Takagi was thinking at that moment.
After Takagi turned and left, he ran out onto the street and continued to call Miwako, wanting to tell her who the real culprit was.
Miwako was filled with anticipation. Takagi's sudden hanging up of the phone had made her anxious, and she couldn't wait to find out who killed her father eighteen years ago.
Takagi figured Shiratori wouldn't bother him now that they were this far away, and he'd run quite a distance. Tired, he stopped, panting, and said, "This robber is..."
Suddenly, Miwako heard Takagi groan over the phone, and then there was no sound. No matter how Miwako called out, no one responded. After a few seconds, Takagi hung up the phone.
Miwako sensed something was wrong. Takagi wouldn't ignore her for no reason, especially at such an important moment, and he didn't respond to her calls at all, instead hanging up the phone directly. This made Miwako frown and call out Takagi's name.
This scene reminded her of what had happened to her father, and she panicked...
Shiratori had just seen off the officers who had taken the suspect back to the Metropolitan Police Department when he received a call from Miwako. Miwako told Shiratori with certainty that Takagi had been attacked and his fate was unknown.
According to Miwako's reasoning, the person who attacked Takagi was likely the arsonist. But just then, Conan pretended to be thinking and asked, "Officer Sato, what was the name of the bar that the four people we met today went to?"
Miwako recalled for a moment, then her pupils shrank sharply: "Nanagasa Tavern, it's located in front of Shinagawa Station!"
Considering that the murderer had already met with everyone today, as Takagi said, it is highly likely that the suspect attacked Takagi to silence him after seeing him. And the murderer is very likely one of those four people!
In any case, Shinagawa Station is the last place where everyone knows Takagi appeared, so of course they have to hurry to Shinagawa Station to check on the situation.
At the children's insistence, Miwako had no choice but to take the middle-aged children with her to Shinagawa Station.
At that moment, Shiratori also reported the current situation to the Metropolitan Police Department. All the police officers near Shinagawa Station had received news that a police officer had been attacked by an unknown person near Shinagawa Station.
Immediately, the alarms blared, and the officers' efficiency was truly commendable. Within a minute or two, all available police forces were mobilized and began searching for Takagi.
At this moment, Kōyū was also trying to recall the exact location. He really didn't know where Takagi was trapped. He only remembered that Takagi would be in danger because he didn't want to break Miwako's father's handcuffs. He really couldn't remember any of the specific clues in the case!
Miwako, who was driving, had a serious expression. She never expected that one of the four people she encountered today would be the murderer who killed her father!
What angered her even more was that she was so close to the murderer, close enough that she could have easily reached out and grabbed him. But she missed him because of that very close distance, and that's why Takagi was attacked by the murderer!
Her father died because of this, and she will never let such a thing happen to her again!
Conan was also racking his brains over the four clues in the case, not wanting a good police officer to die in front of him.
However, all he can do right now is pray that the murderer won't kill Takagi immediately; there's nothing else he can do!
