The alarm clock on the bedside table showed the current time: 6:32 AM.
His long-established biological clock woke Guangyou from his sleep.
He opened his eyes, shook off the sleepiness, and turned to his side, focusing his gaze on Ai's face, who was still asleep.
Waking up doesn't mean getting out of bed.
The first thing he did after waking up was to look at Ai for a few minutes, either reminiscing about the time he had spent with her or simply staring at her blankly.
He has been doing this for years and he doesn't get tired of it.
Her sleeping face has remained unchanged for over a decade; it has always been so serene.
She's a very good sleeper; she doesn't kick off the covers or move around much...
Well, of course, in Kōyū's eyes, Ai's unconscious hugging him while sleeping is not considered moving around randomly.
It's a bit of a shame that she didn't have any today.
Just as he came to his senses, Kōyū noticed that Ai's eyelashes were trembling slightly.
After two or three seconds, Ai slowly opened her eyes, allowing Kōyō to see the icy blue eyes that had been hidden under her eyelids while she was sleeping.
He greeted Ai in a soft voice:
"Good morning."
"Good morning." Ai replied softly, then yawned, still feeling sleepy.
Having been married for many years, Ai naturally wouldn't blush upon waking up and seeing her husband like she did more than a decade ago or when they first got married.
Her appearance reminded Guangyou of those times, and he couldn't help but laugh.
"What's wrong?" Ai asked, seeing that Kousuke had suddenly laughed. She thought it was because of her sleeping posture, so she reached out and touched the corner of her lips.
Her hands were still dry, and the scene she had imagined did not occur.
"I suddenly thought of the time when we first got together."
"Back then, when you realized I was about to wake up, you would close your eyes and pretend to be asleep. And when you first woke up and saw me, your face would turn red, and you looked so adorable."
After hearing Guangyou's explanation, Ai also recalled the scene at that time. Then, she raised her eyebrows and said "Oh" in a very flat tone.
She didn't say anything, but having known her for many years, Guangyou knew what she was thinking.
He took the initiative, leaning in close and sealing her lips with his, silencing her thoughts. After a moment, he pulled away and said to her:
"Of course, it's just as cute now."
"My darling is adorable no matter what."
Her proud and aloof personality, which has remained unchanged to this day, made Ai's lips curl up slightly before quickly closing up again.
"You barely pass."
After smiling, Kōyū threw back the covers, got up, changed into his pajamas, and then said to Ai:
"You can sleep a little longer, or watch some TV."
"I'm going to wash my face first."
At this point, Ai was wide awake and had no intention of taking a nap or turning on the TV.
Watching Guangyou leave the room after speaking, she shifted her gaze to the "photo" placed on the bedside table.
After a brief pause, she also lifted the covers, changed out of her pajamas, and got out of bed.
...
"Gurgle~"
"Pah!"
After spitting out the water in his mouth, Kwang-woo tidied up his not-so-long hair in front of the mirror.
It's called styling, but it really just involves running your hands through your hair and doing a few random things.
To prevent those unruly clumps of hair on your head from continuing like that after waking up, try to make them more manageable.
Looking at himself in the mirror, he smiled with satisfaction.
Over the years, not only has his relationship with Ai Haibara changed from that of lovers to husband and wife, but their lives have also undergone many changes.
The two, who originally lived at the firm and her sister's house, have both moved out and lived elsewhere for several years.
The house they currently live in was prepared by Kōyū before the marriage. It's located very close to his agency and Professor Agasa's house, just a few minutes away.
Kōyū had already informed Akemi and Ai about the house that had been taken back from the island.
The house was renovated to look exactly as Mingmei remembered it.
They're not exactly the same, but they're not far apart.
That house is a bit far away, so neither the couple nor Mingmei and her husband usually live there.
There happened to be a few nice vacation spots nearby, so he, Ai, and Akemi would go there for a few days every month as a kind of vacation.
As for Shuichi Akai....
He was promoted and given a raise, replacing James Black in charge of their group's affairs in Japan, and occasionally helping Akai Tsutomu, who was still alive.
Because of his busy schedule, he usually misses two or three out of five events like this.
However, he would make time to be with Mingmei and take her on trips together to relax as a form of compensation, and the couple had a good relationship.
The two families have a good relationship.
To elaborate, it's because of what happened back then that Ai's attitude towards her brother-in-law changed from hostility to indifference.
It's the kind of attitude you would have towards a friend you don't see often and who you're not very close to.
It's not practical to not ease tensions. After all, he's my sister's husband, so we should give him some face. Besides, my sister doesn't care about what happened back then anymore.
But to say that she would willingly call him "brother-in-law" and treat him like family is not in her nature.
That's fine.
Regarding their work.
Currently, among the many companies under Guangyou's control is a pharmaceutical company, where Xiao Ai is in charge and also participates in drug development.
She was an expert in this field and continued to research it, so this job was a good fit for her.
Even without Mitsuyu, her abilities would be more than enough for her to easily enter any pharmaceutical company and get promoted and receive a raise in a short period of time.
