"How long has it been?"
Is it a boy or a girl?
"..."
Many questions like these were like homework assigned by a teacher on the last day before a holiday, suddenly "hitting" Ai.
The result was obvious: instead of an answer, she received a glare from Ai Haibara and a reproachful remark:
"How am I supposed to answer so many questions at once?"
"Sorry." Guangyou then realized what he had done and chuckled awkwardly, "I was just a little too emotional."
"Actually, we only discovered it in the last two days," she replied. "It's been a very short time, less than a week, so we can't determine the gender yet."
When the topic came up, Ai asked Kousuke a question:
"Do you hope it's a boy or a girl?"
“A girl.” Guangyou blurted out without hesitation.
"Why?" Ai asked, somewhat curious.
“She will definitely inherit all your good qualities.” Kōyū took Ai’s hand and said with a smile, “Then I will have two angels by my side.”
"Hmm? Aren't you worried that I'll be jealous of her?" Ai deliberately narrowed her eyes slightly and teased.
He kissed Ai's hand, looked up at her, his gaze falling on her deliberately pressed-down lips. He smiled and asked her, "Can you?"
"Maybe." Ai raised an eyebrow, giving a vague but somewhat expected answer.
Everyone knows it's a joke, and Guangyou won't take it seriously.
He reached out and ruffled Ai's hair, picked up his phone from the ground, opened his WeChat Moments, found a photo of the two of them together in his album, and posted it with the caption:
"I'm going to be a father."
Looking at the group photo on the screen and that short sentence, joy, a sense of unreality, and many other indescribable emotions intertwined, leaving him with an exceptionally complex feeling and speechless.
Seeing him like this, Ai, who could understand his emotions, leaned slightly against Kōyū's shoulder, also without saying a word.
...
Many years have passed in the blink of an eye.
The temperature in April this year felt comfortable, and the weather has been exceptionally good these past few days.
On a lawn in the suburbs, people are camping.
"dad!"
A beautifully sculpted little girl with tea-colored hair called out in a childish voice as she walked toward her father.
Her father would naturally pay attention to her from time to time, let alone when she called him.
Seeing her walking towards him, he opened his arms, waited for the little girl to get a little closer, then hugged her tightly and asked:
"What's wrong? My little angel."
"Can you play with me for a while?" The little girl's icy blue eyes, inherited from her mother, sparkled with anticipation.
"Of course," he readily agreed. "You go play with Aunt Mingmei's daughters, Yamei and the others, and Dad will come play with you after I finish eating."
"Okay! It's a deal!"
After receiving her father's affirmative answer, the little girl turned her expectant gaze to her mother.
Before she could even speak, her mother said:
"I won't go."
"Okay." The little girl looked a little disappointed, but she was quite well-behaved and didn't make a fuss.
“Let me take a picture of you and your dad,” her mother said with a smile, picking up the camera beside her.
"good!"
The little girl's earlier disappointment vanished, replaced by a bright smile. She turned and hopped off to find her friends.
After quickly finishing the peanut butter and blueberry jam sandwich made by the girl's mother, the girl's father brushed the bread crumbs off his hands.
He stood up, reached out his hand to the girl's mother, and said, "Come on, Ai, my other angel."
Picking up the camera, placing her hand in the girl's father's palm, and then standing up, Ai teased:
“Go, Jehovah.”
Jehovah understood immediately and couldn't help but laugh out loud.
He recalled the past and said, "You gave me so many nicknames that I can't even count them all."
"Should we give you another nickname, 'Mr. Nickname'?" Ai asked Kousuke again, teasing him.
“It’s not impossible.” Guangyou pretended to think about it seriously for a moment and said, “Then you can be called ‘Nickname Lady’ and our group can be called ‘Nickname Couple’.”
"That's awful." Ai pouted. She really didn't think the nickname was good, but because it was Kouyu, she was actually quite happy.
"Dad! Mom! Hurry up!" The little girl waved from a distance, calling to her parents to hurry up.
Looking at the little girl who resembled Ai Haibara, with a lively personality and a smile that was always on her face, the two smiled at each other.
"Let's go, let's go, Xiaoxue is urging us." Guangyou held Xiaoai's hand and quickened his pace slightly.
...
On the other side, a little boy who looked somewhat like Conan, except he wasn't wearing glasses, was leaning against a tree reading a book.
Sitting next to me was Xiaolan.
"Seiichi, aren't you going to play?" Ran asked her child with a hint of helplessness.
"I'll go after I finish reading this case," Seiichi said, flipping through the book without looking up.
"This whole family is like that." Ran sighed, glancing at Shinichi Kudo, who was juggling a ball.
Noticing the gaze, Shinichi Kudo stomped the ball under his foot and shrugged.
The two exchanged a glance, and Shinichi Kudo was instantly defeated.
After Seiichi finished reading a short story, Shinichi Kudo forcibly made him put down the book and dragged him away.
"Dad, I want to read a novel!"
"Why read novels when we're out having fun? I'll teach you how to play soccer. Becoming a mystery writer like your grandfather isn't just about reading novels."
Xiao Lan couldn't help but chuckle as she watched the father and son.
