Of everyone present, only Mitsuyu and Ai Haibara knew the truth, but neither of them could tell, and Conan had to bear it all alone.
Kōyū walked over to Conan and patted him on the shoulder: "Everything is going according to plan, everything will be alright."
Conan nodded. He wasn't unaware of this principle, but he just couldn't control his chaotic mind. He had naively believed that nothing could disturb his peace of mind, but he was wrong.
As darkness fell, Kōyū patted Conan on the shoulder: "Go take a shower, you've been standing all day."
Conan nodded after a long while, then turned and walked towards the bathroom without saying a word. Kōyū couldn't help but sigh, "What a cruel twist of fate."
She shook her head, dried her still slightly damp hair with a towel, and turned to go upstairs to her room.
Having just finished showering, Conan, wearing pajamas and a towel around his neck, pushed open Ran's door and said, "Ran-neechan, the bathwater is ready."
Ran, holding the photo of her and Shinichi, asked, "Conan, tell me, what kind of person is Shinichi Kudo?"
The unexpected question left Conan momentarily speechless. After a moment of thought, Conan said, "I think he's the kind of person who would put Ran first no matter what he does, but wouldn't express it explicitly."
"I really want to meet him," Xiaolan said, looking up with a sigh.
Eri, dressed in casual home clothes, walked to the door and asked, "Ran, do you want to go to Ginza tomorrow? I can't help but get angry at that old man. Let's go relax and buy some clothes to satisfy our cravings! Of course, Kouyu and Conan should come along too!"
Ran and Conan both nodded. Conan thought that this relaxation would help Ran, who had been preoccupied all day, to relax and also help with her recovery.
After Xiaolan finished showering, everyone in the family was already asleep. She naturally moved quietly, pushed open the door and went upstairs. She opened the roof door, and the night wind was a bit cool, but fortunately the weather had been quite hot these past few days, so the wind felt very pleasant.
When Xiaolan reached the rooftop, she found Guangyou lying on a deck chair, seemingly still drawing.
There was a chair next to the recliner. Xiaolan walked over and sat down, looking curiously at the child who was drawing on the roof instead of sleeping, and asked, "Guangyou, what are you drawing?"
"Paint this sleeping city."
As he spoke, Guangyou stopped drawing and showed the drawing to Xiaolan. "How is it?"
"It's beautiful." Even though Xiaolan doesn't know how to paint, it didn't stop her from praising the painting in front of her. The simple black and white colors perfectly depicted the night scene of the city. It wasn't fancy, but it was real.
A night breeze blew by, ruffling Ran's still-damp hair. Looking up at the bright moon in the sky, Ran asked, "Kuangyou, I want to ask you, what kind of person is Kudo Shinichi in your impression?"
"He is extremely curious, has a strong sense of justice, is not good at expressing himself, and is very competitive. He likes someone but just doesn't dare to say it..." Kōyū thought to himself, trying his best to describe all the characteristics of Shinichi Kudo that he remembered.
Xiaolan listened attentively. After hearing Guangyou's introduction of the features, several images seemed to flash through her mind. The scenes in the images were different, but the only thing that was the same was that there was a boy next to her. The boy's face seemed to be covered by a layer of fog, making it somewhat blurry and difficult to see.
Seeing Ran looking thoughtful, Kōyū quietly left the rooftop. Ran was completely unaware that she was the only one left on the rooftop. She murmured, "Is that Shinichi Kudo?"
Pushing open the door to the room, Kōyū found that Conan was still awake. Conan was sitting on the bed, and when he saw Kōyū come in, he turned his head and asked very seriously, "Tell me, was I wrong?"
Kōyū calmly threw back the covers and crawled into bed. Faced with Conan's question, Kōyū chuckled and asked, "What's wrong?"
"If I hadn't gone with Gin and the others back then, if I had been able to express my true feelings! Would things be completely different now? Would Ran not be like this now!" Conan's clenched hands were already slightly white, and tears dripped onto the blanket, but he was completely unaware of it. "I'm such an idiot!"
"That's true."
Conan was stunned: "Shouldn't you be the one comforting me? You're not playing by the rules!"
However, Kōyū patted him on the shoulder and comforted him, saying, "There are no 'what ifs' in this world. You have to look forward. Now that you've realized your mistake, try not to make it again. You might have avoided it if you hadn't followed Gin back then, but you'll have encountered cases related to them sooner or later. Maybe the consequences will be even worse when you do."
Kōyū knew that Conan could figure it out, but he was just stuck in a dead end, so after he finished speaking, he lay down and closed his eyes to sleep.
After a long while, Conan sighed and then lay down to sleep, planning to go to Ginza the next day to relax with Ran.
When Guangyou woke up from his sleep, it was already dawn; his biological clock had woken him up as usual.
He slept very well last night and felt much more relaxed. Normally, he would lie in bed like a lazy bum until the sun was high in the sky, but unfortunately he had a special mission today, so he got up as soon as he woke up.
Kōyū got up very quietly. Conan was still asleep beside him. He quietly left the house. Kōyū didn't even need to look to know that everyone else in the house was still asleep.
Entering the kitchen, Guangyou put on an apron and simply prepared a hearty and nutritionally balanced breakfast for the group.
When Kōyū finished making breakfast, Conan also woke up. He was just about to go to the bathroom when the aroma that filled the air as soon as he opened the door instantly dispelled his sleepiness.
Conan walked to the table, looked at the breakfast on it, and exclaimed, "Kuangyou, you've made such a lavish spread!"
"Go wash up and get ready for dinner."
Without Mitsuyu saying anything, Conan had already slipped into the bathroom. At this moment, Eri and the others also woke up. Like Conan, they opened the door with wide eyes and smelled the aroma, which made their stomachs feel a little strange.
After everyone finished washing up, Conan was already impatient and waited until everyone arrived before starting to eat breakfast.
After finishing breakfast, Uncle Mori patted his slightly bulging belly and let out an unrefined burp: "Kuangyou, why don't you come back and cook? I feel like you've spoiled my palate."
"I'd better not, I'm still a child!" Guangyou quickly waved his hand. He only showed off his cooking skills frequently this time because there was a reason. Deep down, he was still a lazybones.
Since Eri and the others were going to Ginza, the task of cleaning up the dishes was left to Uncle Mori, who had been slacking off. Uncle Mori protested a few times, but his protest was rejected and he had no choice but to obediently wash the dishes.
After quickly tidying up, the group headed out towards the station. On the way, Eri introduced Ran to the city she had lived in for seventeen years—a city that was both familiar and unfamiliar.
