After hearing what Conan said, Kōyū suddenly stood up and looked at Conan: "Do you think it's possible that Ran will abandon Shinichi and fall in love with Conan instead?"
"How...how is this possible! These two are the same person!" Conan exclaimed in disbelief.
Seeing Conan's anxious expression, Kōyū chuckled softly: "But Ran doesn't know, and Shinichi isn't always by her side. What if—and I mean just what if—Ran really falls for Conan? What will you do then?"
Those few words, spoken lightly, felt like a heavy weight sinking Conan's heart. He lowered his head, and after a long while, he shook his head fiercely: "Impossible! It absolutely won't happen!"
"Well, I was just saying, it's basically impossible, don't think about it, I was just saying it offhand, time to sleep!" Guangyou lay down on the bed, covered himself with the blanket and closed his eyes.
Conan turned his head to look out the window, his eyes resolute: "No matter what, Ran's safety comes first. No matter what happens in the future, Ran's safety is what I should be most concerned about. Besides, I trust her."
His self-talk seemed to have some effect, and he felt much more at ease. He closed his eyes and thought about it for a while before he fell asleep without realizing it.
The next morning, while having breakfast, Uncle Mori received a call from Inspector Megure of the Metropolitan Police Department. After hanging up, his expression turned serious. He swallowed his breakfast and said to Mitsuyu and the others, "Inspector Megure said we need to come over. It seems something has happened."
After a quick breakfast, the group headed to the Metropolitan Police Department. At the entrance, Mitsuyoshi met the others, including the Detective Boys trio, Ai, Professor Agasa, and Sonoko.
After exchanging greetings, Shiratori led Kouyu and his group to a conference room.
After Inspector Megure saw that everyone had arrived, he said, "I called you here for no other reason than to say that a body was found in a suite in the Twin Towers skyscraper, indicating that someone had been assassinated."
Upon seeing the person in the photo, the people present stared at it in surprise: "Isn't that Mr. Oki Iwamatsu, a councilor from Nishitama City!"
Guangyou stared at the bald pine tree in the photo, his eyes narrowing as he seemed to be lost in thought.
“When he asked Mio Tokiwa for accommodation, I heard that you were all there, so I asked you to come and find out what happened.”
Inspector Megure turned to Chiba behind him and said, "Chiba, tell me about the current situation of the investigation."
"The time of death was probably between 10 p.m. and midnight. The murder weapon was likely a knife, but no murder weapon was found at the scene. However, we found a small wine glass that had been cut in half in Daiki's hand."
Chiba explained the situation while looking at the police manual, while Shiratori took a plastic bag from a box containing the shards of the small wine glass.
“We suspect that this is a message deliberately left at the scene by the murderer to indicate their identity,” Inspector Megure said in a deep voice. The death of a politician has indeed put a lot of pressure on the higher-ups. Although this politician wasn’t great, he was still a politician.
Uncle Mori looked at the photos Chiba had posted on the whiteboard and asked, "So the police believe the culprit is one of those five people?"
Suddenly, Uncle Mori tapped his palm: "The small wine glass refers to the chocolate. The murderer is Hara Yoshiaki, who loves chocolate!"
Seeing the detective trio righteously refuting Uncle Mori, Kōyū could only think to himself, "I'm watching you spout nonsense with a straight face."
Soon, even Inspector Megure said that Hara Yoshiaki had an alibi, which made Uncle Mori a little embarrassed. He scratched his head and said, "Inspector Megure, why didn't you say so sooner? Cough cough..."
Kōyū was also deep in thought. He automatically shut out their discussion. He knew perfectly well who the murderer was, but it was none of his business. The death of Ōki Iwamatsu was also completely unrelated to him.
At this moment, he was wondering whether he should try to persuade Kisaragi Mine to save Tokiwa Mio. Of course, it had nothing to do with anything else, but mainly with Tokiwa Mio's background.
Although the Tokiwa Group is not as large and powerful as the Suzuki Group, every little bit helps. The fact that it can afford to build twin skyscrapers shows that the Tokiwa Group's economic strength should not be underestimated.
Of course, Kōyū wasn't after the money; he was only after the conglomerate's background. If it could help him in dealing with the Black Organization, even if it was just financial assistance, that would be great.
After making up his mind, Kōyū decided to go see Kisaragi Mine tomorrow. This afternoon, Kōyū wanted to have a meal with Ai.
"What was the motive for the murder?" Dr. Agasa suddenly asked.
"The investigation is still ongoing." Inspector Megure's expression turned serious as he said this. "Although Mr. Oki is a member of parliament, he seems to wield more power than the mayor in reality."
Shiratori added, "Just like this twin-tower skyscraper project, he forcibly changed and passed a municipal law that prohibits the construction of high-rise buildings."
After much discussion, it seemed that only Hara Yoshiaki's suspicion had been cleared, while suspicion remained about the others. Kōyū, resting his head on his hand, listened to their discussion with boredom.
Conan suddenly suspected that the broken glass referred to someone from the organization, so he lowered his voice and asked, "Haibara, could it be them?"
"No way, they're not stupid enough to leave anything behind," Guangyou yawned and replied casually.
After discussing for a long time, Inspector Megure and his group still hadn't come up with anything substantial, so everyone dispersed. Only a few members of the Detective Boys seemed to be up to something, acting suspiciously.
Kōyū followed Ai and asked, "Ai, shall I take you to eat?"
Xiao Ai nodded slightly, her cherry lips parted: "After dinner, I want to go see a movie."
“Of course.” Guangyou immediately nodded in agreement.
The two had a quick bite at a small restaurant and then went straight to the movie theater. Ai chose a movie called "Western Vengeance".
The movie begins with a sense of melancholy, and Ai is watching it very attentively. As the plot unfolds, a scene where a traitor is beaten to death in the street makes Kōyū realize that this is what the girl was after.
Ai suddenly spoke up, "If it weren't for you, my sister would probably have ended up like this person."
"Perhaps."
Kōyū shrugged noncommittally. Although he knew that Akemi's death was certain without him, Ai turned back to look at the movie screen after hearing Kōyū's answer.
A silence fell between them, and this continued until the movie ended. As they left the theater, Ai's expression remained unchanged, but the aura emanating from her made Kōyū breathe a sigh of relief.
He then jogged to catch up with Ai: "Ai, I know a really good noodle shop, I'll take you there!"
