"Listen up, Shinichi! Come back here right now!" Ran yelled into the microphone.
Shinichi didn't respond on the other end of the phone, but instead sneezed. Ran, hearing the sneeze, was a little worried and said, "Honestly! Shinichi, you finally managed to call back, and you even caught a cold!"
Conan, holding a voice changer in one hand and a microphone in the other, squinted his crescent-shaped eyes and said, "It was an accident. I can't really do anything about it. What can I do when I have a bunch of difficult cases to solve?"
Ran was about to say something when the doorbell rang. She spoke into the microphone, "Okay, it seems we have guests. We'll talk another time. By the way, Shinichi, you'd better get better from your cold!"
After saying that, he hung up the phone.
On the other end, Conan pushed open the door of the phone booth and said, "Damn it! She knows I rarely get to make a phone call, but she's not even nice to me. All she says are complaints. Sigh, I just don't understand women!"
Unfortunately, the phone booth was surrounded by women. When Conan noticed his surroundings, his face flushed red. He tried to evade the question by talking to the people around him, and then pulled Kōyū away.
On the way back to the agency, Conan said to Mitsuyu, "Mitsuyu, don't you think women are strange? I finally managed to call back, but all she said was complaining about me. I should have known better than to make that call!"
Guangyou's eyes held a hint of envy, but he still smiled and said, "If you really understood women, you would be with Xiaolan by now! But, but I really wish someone would complain about me like that!"
The last sentence was almost inaudible, and Conan didn't hear what it was said. He subconsciously asked, "Huh? What did you say in your last sentence?"
Kōyū quickly waved his hand, changing the subject: "It's nothing. Oh, by the way, Conan."
"Um?"
When are you going to confess your feelings to Xiaolan?
"Pfft," that was the sound of Conan blushing and panting.
The phone booth and the office were not far apart, and they arrived at the office entrance, but Conan did not answer.
Before the two even entered the door, they heard, "It's no use lying to me, beautiful lady!"
He paused slightly, then continued, "I know that kid is right here. Hurry up and call him out!"
Conan pushed open the door, and the first thing the two saw was a figure wearing a navy blue jacket and a baseball cap.
The figure looked at Ran and said in a serious tone, "Tell me, beautiful lady, where is Shinichi Kudo?"
Standing next to Conan, Kōyū could see that Conan's face was already covered in cold sweat. However, when Kōyū turned to that figure, he seemed to remember something and quickly ran in front of the figure.
Upon closer inspection, Guangyou realized with a start that he had indeed found the answer, and then exclaimed, "Hey, isn't that Black Charcoal Head?"
When Blackie heard someone call him by his most hated nickname, he turned around and said to Kōyū, "Who are you calling Blackie? You're the one who's Blackie! I have a name, okay? My name is Hattori Heiji. By the way, have you ever seen that guy, Kudo Shinichi?"
Guangyou curled his lip: "Tch, isn't he just a charcoal-headed detective?"
Just as Hattori Heiji was about to lash out, he heard Conan sneeze and temporarily stopped his actions, which were about to beat up Kōyū.
Ran looked at Conan and said helplessly, "Conan, how come you caught a cold too? You're just like Shinichi. Is it because the flu is going around lately?"
As Ran spoke, she took out a handkerchief and wiped Conan's snot. Seeing this, Kōyū couldn't help but sigh: "He doesn't know how lucky he is!"
Heiji Hattori rubbed his chin and said, "I told you you were lying! You don't even know where Shinichi Kudo is, but you know he has a cold?"
Ran wiped Conan's nose, stood up, pointed at the phone, and looked at Heiji with disdain, saying, "Don't you know there's a telephone? He calls occasionally, is that not allowed?"
Heiji pondered for a moment, then said calmly, "As expected, everyone says you're Kudo's woman, and they're right!"
Ran and Conan's faces instantly turned red, and they said in unison, "Women? Who said that?!"
Heiji turned his head and said very calmly, "Of course it was your friend, Sonoko Suzuki, who said it!"
A fire seemed to ignite in Ran and Conan's hearts as they simultaneously thought: Sonoko! Don't let me see you again!
"Oh, by the way, what exactly did Kudo say to you on the phone?"
Xiaolan's face still held disdain as she said, "Nothing much, he just talked about the mystery novels he's been reading lately and the Major League Soccer, and asked if his classmates at school missed him, and so on."
"So, what about your situation?" Hattori Heiji asked bluntly.
Hearing this, Xiaolan's disdain vanished, replaced by a hint of frustration. She said, "Now that you mention it, I realize that Shinichi never asked about me when he called."
Upon hearing this, Hattori Heiji hurriedly ran to the window, opened it, and looked outside. Kogoro, who was sleeping next to him, was woken up by the noise with a bewildered expression.
Ran was still a little confused, but Kōyū explained, "Since Shinichi didn't ask you about it, it means that Shinichi knows what happened to you. In other words, Shinichi has been watching you all along, Ran-neechan. It seems that things might be going to work out between you two!"
In his last sentence, Kōyū's tone clearly carried a hint of amusement, and the blush that had just faded from Ran and Conan's faces returned.
Conan, standing to the side, glared at Kōyū with murderous intent, clenching his fist, but then released it, sighing inwardly: But I can't beat him!
