We went up the stairs to the banquet hall, where people were still chatting and raising their glasses.
Guangyou easily spotted Uncle Mori and his group in the crowd.
Today, Xiaolan wore a burgundy dress. To put it simply, she had a perfect figure, with curves in all the right places and no excess fat in the right places. The dress perfectly accentuated her still-developing curves.
Beside Xiaolan was He Ye, dressed in a light blue dress. The two young girls gathered together, attracting the attention of many young talents present.
"Why are you here?" Conan asked, handing Kōyū a glass of juice.
After taking a sip to moisten his throat, Kōyū turned around and replied, "Come over for a free meal, huh? Look how happy Heiji is eating."
At this moment, Heiji was frantically attacking a chicken leg.
Kōyū walked past Conan and picked up some food from the table to eat. He had just taken a bite when Kazuha walked over to him and patted his head.
"Isn't this Kōyū? Didn't you say you'd have Conan come in your place?"
While chewing on the meat in his mouth, Guangyou replied, "Because there's plenty of food here."
Upon hearing Guangyou's reason, Xiaolan slapped her palm and said to Guangyou apologetically, "I'm sorry, Guangyou, I forgot to cook for you."
"Isn't this kid a really good cook?" Uncle Mori suddenly said.
While eating, Guangyou said, "I'm too lazy to cook. Of course I'll eat what's ready-made here."
After eating for a while, Rekatis and the others went to the banquet hall.
Rekatis seemed to think nothing had happened, and with a smile, he took the microphone and said to everyone, "Ladies and gentlemen, to celebrate the opening of the hotel, the three of us have decided to invite you to witness a very interesting scene. Please wait downstairs in the hotel."
Although the guests didn't know what was going to happen, they did as the host said.
The group proceeded down the stairs in an orderly fashion to the bottom floor, and the lights in the hotel rooms were turned on one by one.
At first, no one knew what was going to happen next, but as the lights in each room were turned on, everyone finally understood what Rekatis and the other two were up to.
"So you wanted to use the room lights to project the 'K' from the hotel's name." Uncle Mori looked at the hotel entrance and nodded in surprise.
“Mr. Ricardo, not there, a little to the left.”
During this activity, Xiaolan used a walkie-talkie to direct the three people's actions, ensuring the successful completion of the event.
"Xiao Lan, did you succeed?"
Hearing the voice on the walkie-talkie, Xiaolan looked up at the unfinished "K" on the hotel sign and said, "Not yet, the first room in the 'K' isn't lit up yet."
"...Okay, I'll be right there."
Rekatis paused for a moment, then answered decisively.
The walkie-talkie was very clear. Guangyou, who was standing next to him, focused slightly. He could hear decisiveness in the voice. It was clear that Rekatis had made a decision, but whether he would regret it was another matter.
However, the fact that Kōyū did not directly stop him fully demonstrates his confidence in Rekatis.
Rekatis wasn't the kind of person who couldn't think things through. His plan was made out of necessity and on a whim. Given time to consider it, he should be able to choose a path he wouldn't regret.
"Mr. Mike, could you please open the curtains?" Xiao Lan said to McNold, who was in charge of that floor, after noticing that the light in one of the rooms was blocked by the curtains.
After McNold drew back the curtains, Ricardo turned off the light in the wrong room, and Rekatis turned on the light in the last room, the letter K was perfectly displayed on the hotel.
The crowd watching from the doorway applauded, whether out of genuine joy or out of politeness, the spectacle was still there.
Just then, a gunshot rang out in the night sky, startling everyone present. Everyone stared at the window of the room that had been shattered by the gunshot.
The hotel's three owners all opened their windows and leaned out, asking in unison, "What happened? Was it a gunshot?"
Kōyū frowned, looking at Rekatis who had opened the window, and felt a little disappointed: "Did he still choose that wrong path?"
Then he took a step and followed closely behind Heiji and Conan. It was obvious that these two wanted to go to the scene to check out the situation.
Following the stairs again, the group arrived at the room on the second floor where the gunshot had been heard. Upon opening the door, they found a person lying motionless on the floor.
While the others were still in shock, Conan and Heiji went up to check on the situation.
When the Osaka police arrived, it seemed that the media, who lived next to the Metropolitan Police Department, saw a large number of police officers responding to the call, which gave them a sense of news value.
Media gathered below the hotel, but they could only take photos of the hotel; they couldn't get inside.
The officer who came was Inspector Otaki from Osaka. After looking at the scene, Inspector Otaki said, "The deceased was Ed Mike, a 48-year-old reporter for the Chicago-based newspaper. His fatal wound was a gunshot wound to the chest, which almost killed him instantly."
"The murder weapon should be the Smith & Wesson M500 revolver that was placed next to the deceased. There were signs of struggle at the scene, which clearly indicates that the deceased struggled for a very short time after being shot."
Otaki shared the same opinion as Conan and Heiji. Then, Otaki turned to Heiji behind him and asked, "Heiji, do you know when you were shot?"
“I know, it was around 8:05 p.m.,” Heiji said. “I was with Kazuha and the others at the hotel entrance when we heard the gunshot and then we saw the glass in this room shatter. I’m sure of it.”
Looking around the scene, Guangyou felt inexplicably disappointed and took a few steps back before walking out of the crowd.
Next, Guangyou arrived at the banquet hall, which had been set up by the police as a shelter for those present. After this incident, people definitely needed to be kept there.
Guangyou looked around and walked straight up to Rekatis.
Rekatis held his head with his eyes closed, his whole body heaving. Suddenly, he felt someone coming in front of him. He thought it was the police coming to take his statement, but when he opened his eyes, he saw Guangyou in front of him with a disappointed look on his face.
"Would you believe me if I said I didn't do it?" Rekatis said, his tone full of helplessness.
Guangyou sighed, suppressing his disappointment, and sat down next to Rekatis: "Tell me what happened. I'll give you a chance to explain."
Rekatis breathed a slight sigh of relief, looked around to make sure no one was there, and said, "After you left, I thought about it carefully, but I didn't make a decision and I've been acting according to the plan."
Rekatis stared at Guangyou: "It was when that girl told me that the lights on the first floor weren't on that I suddenly realized that this was it. I decided to just leave it at that. I'm already addicted to drugs anyway. If I do something bad, what difference is there between me and those other people? How can I face my wife?"
"Please believe me, I really didn't lie to you."
